  1. Millwood only makes sense if the Brewers are sending Hall or Suppan to the Rangers. Neither Hall or Suppan are anyone that the Rangers need Suppan less so. This wouldn't help the Brewers at all really other than future salary relief. Trading Hall for Millwood wouldn't make much sense at all since you will then be creating a hole at 3B. McGehee is not someone I would want to be platooning with Lamb. If the Brewers could trade Suppan for Millwood then I would be all for it. The future salary relief alone would be worth the trade. The hard part of this trade would be getting the Rangers to take Suppan. The rotation wouldn't really change at all with trading Suppan for Millwood the Brewers would be still stuck with an expensive #5 pitcher just for a shorter time period. Trading Riske for Millwood would not be a good idea adding prospects to the deal just makes it even more of a head scratcher.
  2. You couldn't be farther from the truth. Salome is the penciled in 2010 starting catcher for the Brewers at worst he will platoon with Rivera in 2010. Lucroy will be in the majors the earliest in 2011. Lawrie may or may not be a catcher some scouts have him as a 2B. I believe Lawrie would be better at 3B/2B than catcher. Waiting for Lawrie's defense at catcher would be something I wouldn't want to wait for especially when the window of having Braun, Gallardo, Parra, and others is shrinking every year. Lawrie could be up as early as 2011 at 2B or 3B. 3B would be mostly dependent on if Green or Gamel will be adequate at 3B if not Lawrie could be playing at 3B. The Brewers have yet to say if Lawrie will be playing at catcher or at another position. I believe Lawrie is more valuable at another position because his bat is probably the most advanced out of all of the prospects in the minors. I still believe Lawrie was one of the better talents in the draft and I was suprised to see him drop to the Brewers. Salome is definately worth more than Kennedy on his own. In the market catching prospects are worth more than gold. If the Brewers were to trade Salome to a team they could expect a decent #1 or #2 type pitching prospect in return plus a couple of other fringe prospects in return. The value of catching prospects is definately over valued but when you have something of a premium it will cost more. The demand for catching prospects is high and the supply of them is rather low. When demand is high and supply is low what do you think the price is going to be for that particular item? There is just no way you could justify trading Salome for Kennedy. I could see Salome for Hughes but not Salome for Kennedy. I'm not saying I don't want Kennedy but giving up Salome is to much for Kennedy especially when the market for catchers is higher than that of the supply of catchers. I would really like Kennedy in the Brewers rotation I think he would fit nicely in the Brewers rotation especially in the NL where he could thrive a little bit better. I do like endaround's idea of Cameron for Swisher and Kennedy. Know that I think about the salary concerns it does make sense to take on Swisher's contract for the Brewers. The only thing I don't like about that is that the defense is downgraded a lot if you are placing Hart or Swisher in CF. I'm not sure that would be a good idea for the Brewers especially with the pitching staff that we have where defense is going to be key next year.
  3. Cameron wouldn't fetch both Swisher and Kennedy; though Kennedy and Cabrera is more likely. The Brewers would have to add in at least a low level prospect for them to give up both Kennedy and Swisher. Kennedy would be nice to have as the #4 or #5 pitcher in the rotation and moving McClung to the bullpen. McClung would then become the 6th starter or long relief.
  4. Salome is to much for Kennedy. Kennedy at best is a #3 pitcher he will more than likely be a #4 or #5 pitcher. Kennedy is a lot like Bush who is a #3 pitcher. Kennedy's ceiling really is at the #3 spot in the rotation while Hughes at worst would be a #3 pitcher. Hughes potential is that of a #2 or a #1 pitcher I believe Hughes is more talented than Kennedy. Hughes should be a staff ace or a #2 type of a pitcher. Hughes and Kennedy will not come cheap and the Yankees are not set as a team. The Yankees currently have Cabrera as their best starting CF. Neither Swisher or Cabrera are not really ideal at CF even for the Yankees. Cameron would be someone the Yankees should want to have they actually need Cameron as much and possibly even more than the Brewers need Cameron.
  5. I saw them in Vegas one time I believe they just do local things around there and mostly near the base that live near I believe.
  6. The Cubs have ZERO chance of getting Peavy now not like they really had much of a chance before this trade anyways. I'm hoping this now will shut up the rumors about the Cubs getting Peavy because right now they don't have much or anything to trade that the Padres would be interested in. The Peavy really did shoot himself in the foot with his no trade clause and his demands if he were to be traded and the Padres also shot themselves in the foot by not taking the deal that Atlanta gave them which was rather good. This move right here is puzzling to me on why the Cubs traded away more of their infield depth. First Derosa and now Cedeno. Granted Derosa was probably more valuable than Cedeno was to the Cubs. This could be a very bad move by the Cubs especially if Fotenot or Theriot go down with an injury. If one goes down the replacement would be Miles who is a major downgrade from Cedeno or Derosa.
  7. I would just add some pitching depth to the team by signing players like Mulder right now. Suppan and McClung are more than likely to be the #4 and #5 pitchers entering the season.
  8. Yes and they are pilots in the Air Force.
  9. I didn't even notice that. I wasn't really paying attention to Giambi at all.
  10. Dos Gringos. Here is their myspace page. Here is one of my favorite songs from them. Another favorite of mine 2's Blind. Warning there is some bad language in some of the songs I wouldn't suggest listening to them at work.
  11. Iribarren should beat out Gwynn for the 25th roster spot. If anything Iribarren would be replacing Durham/Dillon from last year. Iribarren brings more value to the Brewers than Gwynn does. Everything that Gwynn can do Iribarren basically can do plus a little bit more. Even with Counsell signed by the Brewers Iribarren can still make the team as a super utility player. I believe Iribarren replaces Durham from last year and McGehee replaces Dillon.
  12. Notables still not signed yet include: Adam Dunn, Bobby Abreu, Jason Giambi, Griffey, and Manny Ramirez. There are others that I am forgetting but that is still a lot of good players available. You could probably put together a team of all stars for about $105-110 million team with the free agents availble. With the free agents available you could have a 90 win team by just signing who is available in free agency so yeah there are a lot of notables in pitchers and hitters available I doubt any of them are hitting the panic button right now. The only ones hitting the broken panic button right now are the fans.
  13. I thought Iribarren was also in the same boat as Nelson was.
  14. 1. Cain CF 2. Escobar SS 3. Salome C 4. Gamel 3B 5. Nelson 1B 6. Gillespie LF 7. Iribarren 2B I got stumped after that. I'm just being very optimistic that Cain and Gillespie will be playing in AAA to start the year but if they are not starting the year in AAA they should be there rather quickly. I believe Nelson and Iribarren need to be on the MLB roster or they become free agents? That makes it even more complicated maybe farther into spring training will sort out who will be playing in AAA. I bet Gwynn will be starting in AAA more than he will be playing for the Brewers. Iribarren was a lock I believe at making the MLB roster untill Counsell was resigned.
  15. All the free agent pitchers besides Perez and Wolf are not the answer to our problems. Actually Wolf and Perez are not really an answer either. Mulder would be signed on a minor league contract which means all he would be doing is adding depth to the rotation which is what the Brewers need. Basically all of the free agents currently available make Suppan look like an Ace. Mulder's stats the past two years are meaningless because there is not enough data to make any significant arguement saying he was good or bad. Mulder has barely even pitched the last two years so you can't really say he was good or bad. The last 3-years that Mulder was healthy his numbers are basically that of a #2 or a #3 pitcher. ERA isn't perfect when judging a pitchers talent but as you can see Mulder wasn't bad like you are claiming he was. You can't look at the 2 years that he was injured to gauge what he will be. Right now Mulder is a #4 or #5 pitcher if he could get healthy. The Brewers signing Mulder to a minor league deal wouldn't be a bad idea it is actually a great idea. SEASON TEAM G GS CG SHO IP H R ER HR BB SO W L SV HLD BLSV ERA 2003 Oak 26 26 9 2 186.2 180 66 65 15 40 128 15 9 0 0 -- 3.13 2004 Oak 33 33 5 1 225.2 223 119 111 25 83 140 17 8 0 0 -- 4.43 2005 StL 32 32 3 2 205.0 212 90 83 19 70 111 16 8 0 0 -- 3.64
  16. Mulder has been injured the past two years of course his stats are going to be bad the past 2 years. Sometimes I wonder if people even look up the players they are talking about.
  17. Even with a salary cap the Yankees would still have been able to sign Sabathia, Teixeira, and Burnett to deals. The salary cap will not and does not effect free agents from signing to big clubs. Look at the Cowboys in the NFL as I said earlier in a post they can and will try to sign Ray Lewis who is probably the biggest name in the NFL as a free agent this coming off season. With the amount of conracts the Yankees had coming off the books this year a salary cap wouldn't have prevented the Yankees from signing those three players.
  18. With the free agency rules in the NFL it really doesn't make any sense to have a salary cap. Take this year into consideration if the Dallas Cowboys really wanted to sign Ray Lewis or any of the other top free agents this year they could and the Packers will still be way down on the bottom of the list of teams Ray Lewis would want to go to. The salary cap doesn't help the Packers and small market teams as many think it does. The big name free agents still go to the big market clubs. When was the last time the Packers signed a highly ranked free agent? Charles Woodson wasn't a highly ranked free agent at the time when he signed with the Packers remember Woodson had question marks about his injury the season before and if he was fully recovered. I actually believe the Packers over paid for Woodson. After Woodson it was Reggie White and that was it. The salary cap doesn't really help the small market teams. What helps the small market teams compete in the NFL is the way players become free agents. There are restricted and unrestricted free agents. It takes a certain amount of years to become one or the other. By the time a player becomes a unrestricted free agent a player is normally at the peak of their career or in the decline of their career. In the NFL you don't have a lot of free agents in the age range of 24-28 years old that are superstars. When was the last time there were free agents equivalent to Sabathia, Teixeira, Burnett, Ramirez, Dunn, Sheets, etc. for the NFL? Most of the time there are only one or two players in that caliber of players in the NFL free agency and at a higher rate you have average to below average players in free agency. Nearly every year in baseball you will have a lot of players that are in the upper echelon of players in free agency.
  19. I suggest building one yourself or ordering all the parts and taking it to a local PC shop and have them put it together if you are not confident in putting one together yourself.
  20. Getting rid of the Type A and Type B free agents would be the first step in creating a competitive balance. The Type A and Type B free agents compensation would be replaced with the franchise tag. A team would be able to select a maximum of 2 players each year that will become a free agent with the franchise tag. In order for another team to sign 1 franchise tagged player they need to have 1 1st round pick (not protected) and a 3rd round pick. This would limit the amount of franchise tagged players to be signed by a team. This will also force teams with higher payrolls to make decisions on who they want and not just go after every high profiled free agent because they can. For the players union to accept the franchise tag a player could only be tagged once and the player would get a one year deal worth the average of the top 3 paid players in their position. This would also make teams wary of tagging players just to tag them with the franchise tag. Other than doing something like that more revenue sharing would help out the teams with a minimum salary cap would create more competition. The Marlins pocket more money than any other team in MLB. A salary cap is not something I want to see in baseball.
  21. If Gamel's defense is bad at 3B I don't want to know how bad his defense would be at 2B. I would rathergo with Weeks than Gamel at 2B. Weeks will be a better 2B than Gamel ever would be. If Gamel can't hack it at 3B there is no way he could make it at 2B.
  22. Graphics cards are made mainly for games and graphic and video editing. For the most part. The onboard video cards are never a good idea if you are planning to play games on your PC. Performance wise you could be losing about 40-50% of your performance by using an onboard video card since it shares the RAM on your PC and Vista is already a memory hog with the 64 bit Windows though that isn't as much of a problem because you could go up to the maximum amount of RAM your motherboard can support. 32 bit Windows is limited to 3.5 GB of RAM I believe you can't go any higher than that because the operating system doesn't know what to do with it. With 64 bit you can go up to the amount of RAM your motherboard will let you have the highest I have seen is 16 GB of memory. Getting another video card if you are planning to do some gaming on your PC is something you need to do you can't really run all of the newer games and even some of the older games with on board video.
  23. The 25 man roster by position will not have Gwynn on it. Iribarren does everything that Gwynn can do and more. Iribarren can play some of the infield positions and OF Gwynn can only really play the OF and that is about it. The 25 man roster on opening day will probably look like this: Kendall, Rivera, Fielder, Weeks, Cameron, Hart, Hardy, McGehee, Lamb, Hall, Nixon, Iribarren, and either a FA or someone from the minors.
  24. Rodriguez's 2008 splits By Breakdown AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB HBP SO SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS vs. Left 97 8 28 4 1 1 8 8 0 13 0 1 .289 .343 .381 .724 vs. Right 301 36 82 16 2 6 27 15 3 54 10 0 .272 .312 .399 .711 Kendall's 2008 splits By Breakdown AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB HBP SO SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS vs. Left 136 14 34 10 0 1 16 16 2 13 1 1 .250 .335 .346 .681 vs. Right 380 32 93 20 2 1 33 34 11 32 7 2 .245 .324 .316 .640 Basically both could be platooned together with Pudge getting more AB's against righties than Kendall. Having both Pudge and Kendall playing only 80-90 games a year would keep them both fresh for the whole year and we wouldn't see such a drop off in performance from both of them. I would rather have Rivera though play more games than signing Pudge to be honest just because of the cost factor. Pitching and a left handed bat are the big holes on the Brewers. Starting pitching being the biggest hole.
  25. Keith Law now has his top 100 prospects up today 1-25 are free but 26-100 are insider only. Could anyone who has access to ESPN insider post where any of the Brewers players rated on this?
