  1. Oh wait... I just got it! The Cardinals ARE entitled to showboat, act arrogant, stare down pitchers after an inside pitch, and throw at batters because they won it all in 2006. OK now I understand.
  2. Whoa! I'll back you guys to the fullest on this one. A writer from St Louis calling out somebody else for showboating? Hah! That's a good one. Just calling Villanueva a journeyman is enough to discredit his whole article. Your guys are good and deserve to be a little confident in themselves AKA cocky.
  3. Burrell? I hope he just has a lousy next 4 games, but he usually plays very well against us. Ramirez? I'm assuming you mean Hanley. This is exactly what I love about my Cubs team. None of our guys is getting serious consideration for MVP or Cy Young. (Dempster might if Webb collapses in September.) Dempster or Wood might be up for Comeback player but other than that I don't see any major individual awards. Team effort all around by the guys with the current best record in baseball. I see a two horse MVP race. Berkman vs Pujols
  4. If they annoy you fine. They're Cubs. That I understand. But overachievers? What's the basis of that statement? Fontenot is a part time 2nd year player and has mediocre numbers. He is hitting .005 higher than his first year with 8 HR's vs 3 last year. Johnson is also in a part-time role and should be expected to hit better when he is facing predominantly left-handed pitching. He is hitting about 25 points better than lifetime average but two years ago had even better numbers. Theriot is in his second full season and faded badly in August and September last year. Two years ago in a partial season he had even better numbers than he has this year. So just maybe last year was the anomoly and he's not the mediocre player you think he is. All right - go ahead and tear it apart.
  5. Hey, Edmonds used to be on my list too. OH, I can just feel the love toward Ramirez, Zambrano, and Soriano. But Henry Blanco? C'mon what's to dislike about Hank White?
  6. Don't play this year til Nov 16. Why the heck do you think I suggested it! Last game played was the 35-7 Bears victory at Soldier Field when Brett said it was too cold.
  7. E: The last game played between the Bears and Packers. LOL
  8. While they have 2 top notch pitchers, meeting them does not scare me silly. Nor does meeting anybody else.
  9. originally To Insure Promptness was the reason. When you're at the ballpark, do you tip the vendors? - you should. I also tip the people at the concession counter - they either split it or it may go to some charity depending on who's working that day. I always tip my hair cutter and like Brian the newspaper and mail delivery guys at the end of the year. The pizza delivery guy probably gets the delivery fee and that may be all he gets as a salary so he always gets tipped. Sometimes the amount of time it takes has nothing to do with him but rather the kitchen. I used to bartend as a profession so I understand the process.
  10. Eat - 18-20,000 calories a day ! Swim - 5 hours a day ! Sleep - With a snoring bulldog in the room Yeah, really, the gold count IS amazing
  11. Best of luck to you squirrel.
  12. No I was not the one thousand one hundred twenty sixth cubfan to register on AOL 15 (or so) years ago. They tried to assign a random number to go with cubfan and I selected my street number at the time. I moved but kept the number.
  13. Yeah. My sister was diagnosed a few years ago. Chemo and radiation beat it - sort of it recurred so she did a stem-cell transplant - (there are uses of stem cell research for things other than cloning) (Oh wait ... no there aren't ... they took some of her and regenerated it to other parts of her body, so that was a form of cloning. See they just created a better her rather than a new her.) Any way that truly beat the lymphoma. Gave her 2 more years of health - This treatment will really beat you up but it's worth it. Then she got breast cancer. (thought to be from all the radiation she went through) More chemo Now she's back to her spunky old self (65) My recommendation is go for the stem cell right away - it'll knock you on your butt for a while (6 months?) but you'll beat the lymphoma.
  14. I don't agree but a lot of people around the World would think it is this one: http://images.yuku.com/image/pjpeg/de9265c1b34d2d6ad0a22a96600b02e1a8cbf1ff.peg Kind of small, kind of ugly but every 4 years billions of people around the entire World are interested in who wins it.
  15. Yes, it was.
  16. Unfortunately, as exciting as that 4X100 relay win was for the USA (enjoy your silver, France) it followed an equally disheartening 2nd place finish in the women's 400 free by Katie Hoff. Full body length over the world record holder from Italy and she got out touched by a swimmer from the UK.
  17. I'm shocked, simply shocked! All these posts and not 1 person has mentioned the troughs at Wrigley! I love 'em.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/eyes.gif
  18. Then why didn't you pick the Barefoot Contessa? This is called quoting out of context.
  19. Hey Blatz don't miss that trip to the South Pacific. 1) My two week land/cruise to the Tahitian Islands was the absolutely top of my long list of travels. 10 day cruise sandwiched between 3 nights on Moorea and 2 nights on Bora Bora in an overwater hut. But it ain't cheap; I think the 5 nights on land cost more than the 10 day cruise but it was all mos definitely worth it. 2) Grand Canyon/Colorado River raft trip 6 nights of (believe it or not) being pampered by the river guides but enjoying the great outdoors at the same time (sleeping under the stars every night.) 3) Cruising - doesn't matter where 4) Cancun - go there every January 5) New Orleans - but please no more than 3 nights at a time at 5 years apart 6) Ireland - There's a reason why it's called the Emerald Isle. They mow lawns 300 days a year. 7) Hawaii - Been to Oahu and Maui - need to get back to see Big Island and Kauai 8) Greek Isles - One of my cruises - nice beaches!!! 9) Alaska - also one of my cruises, but the land package was unbelievable. 10a) California wine country - Even people from Beer City should love this 10b) California Highway 1 - OMG nerves of steel necessary to drive this but what views! 10c) San Francisco - Just a great city to have fun in - 1 time I spent 3 hours on a connection at SFO and had a great time. 10d) California Monterey peninsula - If you love golf, they're not all as expensive as Pebble and Spyglass One final note I also have spent 2 weeks+ in Spain and Portugal which was fabulous for a week and a half but it didn't make my top ten because that last half week started on September 11, 2001. Kind of detracted from the pleasure of the trip.
  20. Queue Mark Twain quote! http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000511/
  21. Since it has stirred a bit of commentary, I will explain the meaning of "ultra conservative." 1) No Polls 2) No images in signatures 3) The eliminating of a text in my signature which used the 7th of George Carlin's "Seven Words You Can Never Say on Television." (even though that word can now be used on television) Let me also point out that the mods/admins here do a great job of combining threads, updating thread titles as appropriate, and stopping things from getting out of hand. I did not intend to say that the board is over-moderated; it's not.
  22. For the one that asked, nothing happened to Zambrano. After going 125 and 118 pitches in his last 2 games, Lou decided to shorten him up today. Keep him nice and fresh for his next start vs the Cards.
  23. You guys are all way too young. Definitely Raquel Welch But if I were going younger, Mary Lynn Rajskub (that's Chloe on 24)
  24. I go along with the boring comment - nevertheless too young - and here's my three generation tribute http://images.yuku.com/image/pjpeg/30826c31c94b3d75dc324d9ea3907e2b36011bb2.jpg
  25. Yeah, talk about a let down. Hope you guys enjoyed it.
