  1. We joked about adopting a family name that was more prestigious (like Bush, Clinton, or Hershey), but never considered hyphenating or dropping our last names all-together.
  2. Ha! Fortunately, Mrs. Nodakfan’s maiden name is equally ridiculous, so she had few reservations about taking my last name. We purposely gave our son a middle name (‘Taylor’) that could function as a last name in case he ever wanted to adopt a DBA name. We are a proud people, but not that proud.
  3. You are not alone on an island with this one... You will almost exclusively see that among females, and the reason is because they think it will make it harder for people to find and stalk them online. Whether or not it really does, I don't know, but that is the stated reason. That makes sense. I assumed it was done out of vanity or for personal branding purposes (for example, dropping a funny-sounding Easterm European surname*) * this coming from a guy with a funny-sounding Eastern European surname
  4. After tearing his ACL as a rookie, Deshaun Watson rushed for 551 yards and 5 TDs in Year 2; however, classifying him as a mobile quarterback might be perceived as a slight because he’s such an accomplished passer. But to your point, there can’t be many.
  5. That’s basically the same deal he was offered last year (though I think the sticking point was that Dak wanted a 5-year deal at $40mm/year). So Dak bets on himself, loses, and still gets $40mm/year? Good for him and good for Packer fans.
  6. I appreciate that explanation! It’s helpful to understand the practical implications (like event tickets with significantly lower fees). Paying thousands for ‘limited edition’ video clips was not resonating with me.
  7. Can someone explain to me what a NFT is? I think I understand, but I’m not sure why someone would pay $200,000 for a short video clip of LeBron James dunking.
  8. I wonder if he feels vindicated, given how LaMelo is running away with the ROY award? For a while, it looked like he hit rock bottom (LiAngelo shoplifting, going to Lithuania, starting his own league, etc.).
  9. Good question. They’ve been one of the better run franchises of the past decade. Age and the inverse draft order has taken their toll on the roster, but that’s really the natural lifecycle of teams. Even Tom Brady once went 10 years between Super Bowl wins. People love to pile on Pete Carroll for not running the ball from the 1 yard line in Super Bowl 49, but it wasn’t Pete Carroll who threw an interception. It was only 2nd down. If Wilson doesn’t make that mistake, they still have two more tries to punch it in..
  10. Well, Superstore fans, at least we might get a Bo and Cheyenne spin-off: https://deadline.com/2020/12/superstore-bo-cheyenne-spinoff-johnny-pemberton-nichole-sakura-star-nbc-bridget-kyle-and-vicky-luu-1234658437/ This sort of feels like a Joey-type situation, but I’ll give it a shot.
  11. Apologies if I missed this, but don’t they have to be under the cap by the full RB tag amount to be able to flip Jones? That seems like a tall order, given how COVID has complicated the Packers’ cap situation.
  12. They could probably turn around and flip Mack for more picks. I don’t think the Bears have many extra picks, so it’d be a way for Seattle to receive compensation immediately without going out 3-4 years.
  13. So a non-profit group has ability to take naming rights of a storied NFL Stadium? Apparently. I guess that’s no different than the US Postal Service sponsoring Lance Armstrong’s cycling team. Every organization, big or small, has a marketing budget.
  14. That old WCHA was tough. Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota, Denver, Duluth ... heck, even CC and Michigan Tech won multiple national titles while in the old WCHA. You could argue it was easier to get hot and win 4 consecutive games in the NCAA tournament than it was to come out on top of that conference after 24 games. Minnesota-Duluth hasn’t won a conference title since the 80s, but has 3 natties in the last 10 years.
  15. Arrowhead Stadium is no more. Say Hello to GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/chiefs-announce-updated-name-for-arrowhead-stadium-making-geha-field-the-new-home-of-the-team/amp/
  16. Maybe ... it’s really hard to say without any inter-conference play.
  17. You are not alone on an island with this one... Thank you!
  18. I’m not sure why this bugs me, but it does: People who use their given first and middle names as a pseudonym when their middle name is clearly a ‘backup’ first name. Random example: Legal Name: Christina Marie Jones Pseudonym: Christina Marie We know your last name is not Marie! But that’s my issue to sort out and not anyone else’s.
  19. I enjoyed the first few seasons of The League, which premiered when I was in my mid-20s. I recently finished the last 2-3 seasons in my mid-30s and it didn’t have the same appeal.
  20. Wow, Superstore was cancelled. It was a successor to The Office, with some of the writing staff and crew transitioning from one NBC sitcom to the other. They went 6 seasons strong. Sounds like they were still able to film a proper finale.
  21. ^^^ I see your point, but your property taxes probably won’t go up significantly. The fact that home prices have increased doesn’t really change the amount of money municipalities need to cover expenses. And while you may have no interest in tapping the equity in your home, it’s nice to know it’s there. My wife and I have been fortunate enough to have accumulated some cash during the pandemic (in hindsight, I wish we would have invested it, but there was know way of telling what the future held for us). We’ll probably refi from a 30-year to a 15-year soon and, when we do, we’ll get the biggest HELOC the banks offers. We have no plans to use it, but with a large line of credit for emergencies, we can make better use of our capital.
  22. I bought my current home in the Green Bay area for $213K in 2015. My current Zillow value is $279K (which I believe is accurate based on comparable sales). That’s about a 5% annualized growth for an area that has experienced a very modest population increase over the past decade. I’m not suggesting it’s overpriced, but there can’t be many deals out there.
  23. My boss is on vacation in Florida. It’s 28 degrees there this morning.
  24. They’ll just start recycling ideas again. Look how quietly they churned through Spider-Man. Toby Macguire last played Spider-Man in 2007. Tom Holland started playing Spider-Man in 2017. In between was Andrew Garfield. 3 separate franchises in the span of 10 years.
  25. I'm fine with it. It hasn't been that good lately (title of my sex tape.) Ha. Yeah, it lost something when it moved from Fox to NBC. At Fox, B99 had 5 consecutive 22-episode seasons that ran September through May. At NBC, it’s been used as a mid-season replacement and had seasons of 18, 13, and now 10 episodes. I’m still looking forward to the finale.
