  1. A short, but interesting read on the history of the Wonderlic test from Yahoo Sports: https://www.yahoo.com/sports/nfl-draft-if-the-wonderlic-is-dead-does-this-mean-the-draft-has-grown-up-141835157.html No big surprises here - It is probably a fair test for general intelligence, but high scores aren’t necessarily correlated with success in the NFL (otherwise Ryan Fitzpatrick would be the MVP). Most teams don’t weight it that high when evaluating a prospect, but it’s a nice intangible. Some players have reportedly left answers blank so as to not seem too intelligent (and therefore tempted by job opportunities outside of football).
  2. I usually favor staying put. There will be a good football player available at #29 and, due to the tendency for some teams to reach for QB’s and draft for need, the Packers can probably get the 20th best prospect if they just remain patient. My gut says they’ll trade up 4-5 spots to draft something other than a need (needs being OL, DL, and CB, in my opinion).
  3. Kudos to those of you helping your kids learn to code. I’ve been learning Python on DataCamp since last Fall and wish I hadn’t waited until my mid-30s to learn. My high school offered C++ classes many years ago, but I thought they were just for computer nerds. I failed to see the vast potential of data science, automation, and AI and will probably be playing catch up my whole life to ensure my skill set stays relevant.
  4. He’ll choose his own path. I won’t push anything beyond local rec leagues (do those still exist?) so he can get exercise and socialize.
  5. This is a very timely thread. My son is 4 and, were it not for the pandemic, would probably have started youth sports this year. Instead, we’ll hold off until next Spring when he’s 5. Growing up, I played football, basketball, and baseball in my town’s rec leagues. These basically involved one mid-week practice and a Saturday morning game. It was great. I attended a large suburban high school and opted to specialize in track because it was the most realistic path to making a varsity squad (aside from football where there were no cuts). There were 250 boys in my class and only about 10 boys per class made the baseball and soccer teams. It was only about 6 per class for basketball. I enjoyed track. I finally made varsity as a junior and we won a lot of meets that year, including our conference. My son will attend a large suburban high school and I worry about investing a lot of time in a sport where he’s unlikely to make the team in high school. Instead, I hope to enroll him in tennis lessons. It’s a sport we can play together for enjoyment and one that he’ll be able to play his entire life, even if he doesn’t make his high school squad.
  6. I wonder what that's like, having an aggressive GM that will help out his stud quarterback. I get where you’re coming from, but that same GM did cut Mahomes’ other two starting tackles ... he sort of owed him one (or two). I thought that was a good trade for both teams. The Chiefs are in win-now mode and add a Pro Bowl tackle still on his rookie deal. The Ravens (who already had a LT) add a FRP for a guy who would have been hard to keep after his rookie deal is up next Spring.
  7. A man in Japan was arrested for dating 35 women at once as part of a scheme to get more birthday presents. https://www.yahoo.com/news/japan-man-arrested-dating-35-152935505.html
  8. Damn...you read those comments? Some pretty hateful stuff in there. People seem to be assuming he was SO drunk he couldn't even recognize his vehicle and blaming him for being in now TWO parking lot incidents. Well, he did nothing wrong in the first and I don't know what happened here other than he seemed to violate Covid protocol and got beat up. But pretty easy to see how someone could make the mistake of getting into the wrong van if it's a party van or just not your vehicle. Most people could diffuse that situation by apologizing profusely and moving on, but I’m guessing the strip club after midnight crowd is a little different than say Costco on a Saturday.
  9. From what I read the proposal was Love+4th rounder for #15 overall. No #29 involved. If #29 had to go back that would make me a no as well. FWIW, I read a rumor with the 29th pick included. I would trade Love plus a 4th rounder for #15, but would not make that trade if #29 was involved.
  10. If trading Love this offseason was a good possibility, I think the Packers probably would have retained Tim Boyle.
  11. Sterling Brown involved in another parking lot incident: https://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/262341/Sterling-Brown-Assaulted-Stemmed-From-Entering-Wrong-Sprinter-Van
  12. Love for #15? Absolutely. Love + #29 + 4th Rounder for #15? Hard pass.* * unless the Packers privately believe he’s a bust; then get what you can while that information is still internal.
  13. Okay, ignoring the cap issue and the fact that the Packers would only have 1 QB signed. If the trade was Love + GB 4th Rounder for NE Pats #15 would you do it? And watch Love go to New England, win a Super Bowl, and have to hear about what a superior organization they are from the East Coast media until the day I die? No thank you.
  14. I hate that rumored Love trade. Maybe I’m just scarred from the Packers trading Matt Hasselbeck so they could move up 10 spots and draft Jamal ‘Too Small’ Reynolds. The hay is in the barn. They might as well have an affordable backup with some upside. I wouldn’t trade Love for anything less than a high 2nd rounder with a 5th or 6th attached.
  15. I’m pretty indifferent to Badger basketball and didn’t know who this guy was until reading about him on BF. However, IMHO, those plays looked a lot closer to ‘taking a charge’ than flops. I detest that purposely drawing fouls has become part of basketball. It’s very difficult for a defender to keep their feet set when a supremely athletic, 250-pound man comes barreling down the lane. If we’re going to let that be an offensive strategy, what other recourse does a defender have?
  16. I don’t think so. Even if the government thinks Bitcoin is ‘imaginary internet money,’ they still want their cut if you turn a profit on it.
  17. The daughter of former Badger (and current Packers’ Board member), Al Toon, was apparently the victim of a murder suicide. Very sad. https://www.yahoo.com/sports/molly-lillard-michigan-wolverines-volleyball-050234714.html
  18. I appreciate how you promote decorum on BF. Reid’s dismissal from the Eagles was not long after his older son’s death. I was surprised he didn’t take a year off from coaching to tend to his family (and his personal health). Few people have the resources to do that, but I’ve got to believe that after his tenure in Philadelphia he had the money and the reputation to step aside for a bit and still have an NFL job waiting for him whenever he wanted to return. Maybe he felt he could keep an eye on Britt if they were working together in the same building every day?
  19. I don’t believe Britt Reid played football at Temple. Rather, I think he was a student assistant for the football team while his dad was head coach of the Eagles. I’m not sure he could claim CTE. Andy Reid seems like a decent guy, but boy have his sons gotten into trouble. It makes me question what type of parent he’s been. One? OK, every family has a black sheep. But two?
  20. Trevor Anderson is transferring to Valpo. I don’t know what will make this guy happy. He had a good freshman season at UWGB with a scholarship and a starting role, but left to walk on for the Badgers (OK, he wants to play ‘big time’ basketball. I get it). Now he’s headed back to a mid-major. I’m not gonna rip on a kid for not knowing what he wants at 18, but he acted like a clown when he left Green Bay by burning a UWGB pennant on social media. https://phearthephoenix.com/2017/11/28/trevor-anderson-burns-bridges/amp/
  21. Yeah, that was a bit tongue in cheek - although Duluth, St. Cloud, and Minnesota State are all beyond ‘just happy to be there.’ I’m sure ‘disappointed’ describes a lot of hockey fans in Minnesota right now. If an East Coast team was going to win the Frozen Four, I’m glad it was a team like UMass and not BC or BU.
  22. UMass wins the Frozen Four. A disappointing showing for the ‘State of Hockey.’
  23. He apparently binge-watched passed seasons and took notes on how Trebek reacted to correct answers and incorrect answers.
  24. I finally watched 3 Jeopardy episodes from this past week. I thought Rodgers did a nice job for someone with little broadcast experience. I wouldn’t describe him as a ‘natural,’ but if he applied himself, I’m sure he’d have no shortage of TV opportunities in retirement. Also, the contestant who inquired about the NFC Championship Game seemed like a jerk. I’m glad he lost.
  25. This is me. I don’t know why the previous owners set the house so far back. Our backyard is tiny. The extra privacy is nice (it’s hard for pedestrians to peak into our living room), but I’d prefer the home be centered on the lot. Oh well, the House was a friggin’ steal compared to today’s market. It may not be perfect, but we still like it and it wound up being a great value.
