  1. I still think Dempster will end up in Milwaukee. Not looking like he'll get his 3 year deal, so he'll sign for 2. Maybe with an option. Edwin Jackson is seeming like he could be had at a good price too, and on a short-term deal.
  2. I'm glad we didn't overpay. Just sucks that lefties are coming off the board, and that they are getting too much money. May price all of them out of our budget. But maybe not. Time will tell. Was hoping for Burnett, but wouldn't have given him that deal.
  3. Tom ‏@Haudricourt #Brewers GM Doug Melvin said club has eye on specific player in Rule 5 draft but doesn't think he'll last until their pick at No. 16.
  4. This was only a minor league deal with no invite. Not really news. Should be in the minor league section.
  5. Did you really have the impression that FA was all Melvin was considering? I think Melvin's proven to be extremely thorough over the years and goes for the players -- perceived as available or not, realistic or not -- that make the most sense which inevitably means that he doesn't limit his options in terms of the modes of acquisition that he considers. Yes I did have that impression, because he basically came out and said that he doesn't want to trade away depth in the farm system. Pretty much said that he'd only be making moves through free agency.
  6. I think it's encouraging that Melvin inquired on Dickey. Likely means he's open to trading for a starter if the price is right. I think that's good. Shouldn't limit himself to free agency.
  7. Has anyone considered Brett Myers as a SP option? I don't see why he couldn't be converted back, and could possibly be had at a good price.
  8. I honestly don't think there's any chance he won't end up with the Dodgers. They'll overpay him to whatever amount they need to, and Greinke loves living on the beach in that area.
  9. With the scarcity of good 3B in this league right now, I think it would be a bad idea to trade Ramirez. That being said, there would be a huge market for him for the same reason. Either way, I'd rather just hold onto him and pass on Hamilton. Have never had any interest in signing Hamilton to begin with, especially if it means trading Ramirez.
  10. Interesting fact about Badenhop. He went to the Marlins from the Tigers in the trade for Cabrera and Willis.
  11. http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/181677031.html I like the pickup. He had a good year last year. More than we can say about the rest of our bullpen.
  12. Yeah just saw that now, wow. That's an interesting trade. Walden is a great pickup for the Braves, but surprised they gave up Hanson for him.
  13. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/11/angels-acquire-tommy-hanson.html?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter Woah. Didn't see this coming. Gotta imagine the Braves got a nice haul for him.
  14. I'm not saying Gomez is going to get $15M/yr. The point is that if he has another season similar or better than his 2012, that his price will be much higher than people think it'll be. Obviously, he could end up flopping next season. For the sake of the team, I hope that doesn't happen, but you never know. He could also play his way into a pretty big contract.
  15. According to fangraphs, Upton had a WAR of 3.3 in 2012. Gomez had a WAR of 3.5. Again, Gomez is probably smiling ear-to-ear right now. He's gonna be highly motivated to duplicate or improve upon his 2012 season. If that makes him close to a $15M/yr player then yikes. Obviously there is the sustainability factor though. Upton has been putting up those numbers for a longer period of time. Although CFs are in very high demand these days too, so there's that.
  16. I'd love to have Walden, but yeah the price won't be low. Never know I guess.
  17. Upton in 2012 .246/.298/.454 28 HR 78 RBI 31 SB. And that's $15M/yr. Yikes. By comparison, here's Gomez in 2012 .260/.305/.463 19 HR 51 RBI 37 SB. Gomez will get a nice pay day next offseason if he can even come close to duplicating those numbers. This is definitely some motivation for him, that's for sure.
  18. Yeah, I've fast forwarded through almost everything so far and I'm about 2 hours in.
  19. Ryback will be in a 1 on 3 Tables match at TLC against Ambrose, Rollins, and Reigns is my guess.
  20. Man it was awesome seeing Ambrose and Rollins finally debut tonight. I really hope they will be aligned with Punk. And yes, I agree that Brad Maddox will end up in this stable as well.
  21. So how long until Stanton demands a trade? Good chance it already happened, lol.
  22. So it's looking like the Jays are getting Johnson, Buerhle, Reyes, Bonifacio, and Buck. How about this lineup and rotation? SS Reyes 2B Bonifacio 3B Lawrie RF Bautista 1B Encarnacion DH Lind CF Rasmus C Arencibia LF Gose Johnson Buerhle Romero Morrow Happ That's really, really solid. And also this is before any other moves or signings. The Blue Jays are going to be legit contenders.
  23. This trade is hilarious. The Marlins are such a joke of a franchise. Their ownership continues to baffle me. They are giving away every good player they have in one deal. The Jays are making out like bandits here no matter what. I really hope this cause Toronto and Baltimore to finish 1st and 2nd in the AL East. Tampa might as well finish 3rd. That would be awesome!
  24. Agreed. It would be really cool if the WBC came here. That's definitely something that is conceivable.
