  1. When you put it like that RockCoCougars, I would be willing to bet that the Bucks do just that.
  2. Wow, that is an impressive list Moose. Does Alvarez sign well through the mail? He strikes me as the kind of guy who would never in a million return an autograph through the mail.
  3. Based on my experience and on recommendations from friends of mine who live in Cincinnati: Graeter's ice cream is good. There is one located right by Fountain Square. Near there is also a restaurant called Nada which I was told was a good Mexican place. There are also some good places right between the two stadiums on E. Freedom Way. Ruth's Chris Steakhouse is good (and pricy). I also had some good wings at Mahogany's. There is also a Yard House which we were going to eat at but did not because the wait was too long (right after a Bengals game). We also ate at a good barbecue place called Montgomery Inn which I would recommend. It's not right downtown but is a short drive away, right on the river. We went on a Saturday night, and the wait was long. We called a couple hours before heading over there and got a "priority time" (or something like that, not actually a reservation) and had to wait ~30 minutes past that time. There's also a Crepes place I went to when I was there though it looks like that may have shut down in January. Also, I forgot to mention one other downside to the Millenium Hotel where we stayed. The beds seemed smaller than advertised (our "King" seemed closer to a Queen) and were not comfortable.
  4. There is the Millenium Hotel which is downtown, basic, and reasonably priced. Pluses: - Location is good, maybe a 3/4 mile from the football and baseball stadiums. Not totally on the "main drag" but only a couple blocks from the heart of downtown. - Price is reasonable (we had a special rate of around $76 a night before taxes/fees but I don't think the regular rates were too much higher) - Not a total dump; just a basic room - Parking available at the valet rate of like $25 a day with unlimited in/out. Could also park somewhere else for like $8/night but with no in/out. Minuses: - While clean, the room was dated and had a couple minor issues: -- Lock on the door to the adjoining room didn't work -- Big tear on the window curtain - I was warned not to go more than two blocks north of the hotel (past 8th Street). Overall it was fine for me when I was there for a few days. If you're interested in where the Brewers would stay, that is probably the Westin. The weekend I was in town that's where the visiting NFL team stayed.
  5. Too many people seem to think that a red light is optional if it's a left turn arrow.
  6. I don't think it means he's "classy" in the sense you described it. I think it means that he is putting his family's and his own long-term well-being over his career and over money. Which I guess you could argue that is a "classy" move because that is generally not what people in our society would do, especially for as much as $12M+. But I am guessing that wanting to take Boston off the hook for the contract played about 0.1% into the decision.
  7. They lost by 9; if they instead shoot closer to their season average, they win by 15 or more. Obviously things would've been different if they wouldn't have needed to apply full-court press at the end of the game, but still... while their defense was disappointing, the lack of offense was easily the biggest factor in this game. With that being said, I was encouraged by their ability to apply the press and nearly get back into the game at the end (albeit against an inferior opponent). I wonder if they'll go back to that in future games before the last couple minutes - maybe if they're down by more than a couple at some point in the 2nd half? Northwestern was clearly surprised and didn't know how to handle it. Other teams may be able to handle it better, but you still may catch them a little off-guard. Maybe they start pressing full-court for most of the game and then drop back into a zone when the press fails...
  8. Not really... I never really thought he was a "thug." I just thought that he pretty clearly indicated that he was arrogant and self-centered by saying "I'm the best corner in the game!" to start the interview. I also thought Erin Andrews' reaction to that statement was pretty awesome.
  9. It was Butler's bobblehead night last night... coincidence?
  10. I thought last night's game was very sloppy and not officiated very consistently (largely due to the sloppiness of the game). Iowa's fast-pace tempo resulted in some tired players and some sloppy plays on both ends of the floor for both teams. With that being said, I am glad that the Badgers were able to squeak out a win after a horrendous start. Of course it doesn't hurt when the opposing coach gives you enough points to cover your margin of victory.
  11. False. I like it. That sounds to me like a decent idea for a sports bar.
  12. I don't think it makes you uncompetitive, I think that Bo recruits that way because of the way he coaches. He wants players who can fit into his system and play defense, and he generally likes to coach guys and see them improve over time before playing them for significant amounts of time.
  13. Not sure where you live, but I am glad that Milwaukee at least doesn't use the sand instead of salt like Madison does. City of Milwaukee snow/ice policy: http://city.milwaukee.gov/mpw/divisions/operations/environmental/sanitation/winter/SnowIcePolicyOld.htm "Abrasives like sand are often used in rural areas and smaller communities. Heavy urban traffic quickly pounds down and bonds untreated snow into hard pack that is extremely difficult to remove. It takes four to seven truckloads of sand to treat the same number of lane miles as one truckload of salt. Additionally, sand builds up in catch basins and sewers, requiring expensive spring clean up efforts." City of Madison snow removal policy: http://www.cityofmadison.com/residents/winter/documents/SnowIceProcedures.pdf "Only main arterials, thoroughfares, main connector streets, Madison Metro bus routes, streets surrounding hospitals and schools and major hills and curves are salted. All other City of Madison streets receive sand to act as an abrasive on hills, intersections and curves."
  14. It will probably depend on what they use. My guess is that they would use the wands, which I don't think usually go off for a cell phone or car keys (at least they don't for me at Packer games). If they use full walk-through metal detectors like at the airport or Six Flags, they will probably be more sensitive.
  15. You have a point, but of those two who have missed significant time, one also happens to be the player with the biggest contract and the "face of the franchise", who got hurt because he doesn't know how to behave himself off the court. (Not that he really knows how to behave himself on the court either...) The franchise is in disarray. We need to fire Hammond and get a high pick (at least top 5 if not top 2), so that we can get good for a couple years, sway public opinion enough to build a new arena, and then have Kohl sell the team to someone who will keep them in Milwaukee in the new arena. It's a long shot, but about the only realistic chance the Bucks have of ever being good in Milwaukee again IMO.
  16. At this point, I literally want the Bucks to do whatever increases their chances of losing each game. It is very clear that they won't amount to much if anything this year, and I think that getting Wiggins or Parker will do significantly more for the Bucks' chances at success than anything else at this point (and that includes things like developing the younger guys on this year's team). I read through the entire saveourbucks.com website linked above, and for the most part I agree with what they said on there. They have all sorts of statistics to back up why the Bucks really need a top-5 pick and why this year is the year to have a top pick. Not to mention that anything short of drafting a cream-of-the-crop talent is likely to result in the Bucks relocating in the not-so-distant future, because without a drastic turnaround there is almost no way a new arena gets built. Their focus toward tanking is moreso that the young guys should get a decent amount of playing time and the record will take care of itself; I am more directly in support of tanking, and if that means playing the young guys or not then so be it. I believe that a guy like Wiggins or Parker is far more likely to have a big impact on this franchise than Sanders, Henson, or Giannis.
  17. Based on how other t-shirt giveaways have worked in my experience at sporting events, the people handing them out will probably just ask you for the size shirt you want. Depending on how good their set-up is and how many people they have handing out t-shirts, things could get backed up at the entrances. Maybe if they're smart they'll just have big signs for different turnstyles that say "S", "M", "L", and "XL" or something like that, so that they don't have to ask you and then shuffle around to grab the right shirt.
  18. See, the Bucks were planning to tank all along... they knew Sanders would be involved in an incident like this, so that's why they gave him a big contract extension.
  19. I went to Vegas a couple of years ago for the first time... Agreed that it is hard to find low limit tables. Two casinos on/near the strip with lower limits that I discovered were Hooters (several tables in the $3-$5 range) and Slots-A-Fun (I believe I played for $3 there).
  20. I've been tempted to start such a thread multiple times, with the title "One Question Line". Can I use, "I was wondering"? No. And only women can post on Fridays.
  21. On Sunday, October 20th, there was an article in the Journal Sentinel talking about Cobb's injury from the perspective that we are likely to see more leg injuries due to defenders going low to avoid the head shots. Jermichael Finley was quoted in that article as saying that he'd rather be hit in the head than in the legs. That afternoon, he suffered what very easily could have been a career ending injury that could have left him partially paralyzed.
  22. This is right on the cusp of your 10-year number, but Cleveland was terrible for a few years before getting the #1 pick in 2003. They had a few good years from 2006-2010.
  23. Patrick, I think you are being overly conservative as you said. I see where you're coming from, but personally, I think it is better to take a longer-term view than one hand at a time. Yes, you could lost $20 instead of $10, but over time, you are likely to win more than you lose by doubling your bets in the right situations. If you're not capitalizing on the situations where you could (and arguably should) double down or split, then you're only increasing the house edge. My theory is that if I'm not willing to double/split on the hands where it's theoretically advantageous to do so, then I probably shouldn't have bet that $10 in the first place. (Again, just my personal preference.) I have a blackjack reference card that I generally use to determine my strategy on any given hand. It says to not double on 11 if the dealer shows a 10 or A. It says to double on 10 if the dealer shows anything except 9, 10, or A. In terms of splitting 9's, it recommends to usually split them, except when the dealer shows 2, 7, 10, or A (I know, that seems like a pretty random strategy). Your betting strategy does sound interesting though. What are the rules you follow for increasing/decreasing bets?
  24. I agree that we should try to trade Aoki, but we shouldn't be so dead set on trading him that we decide we'll just take whatever we can get for him. If teams aren't offering much for Aoki, then Melvin better look into seeing what we can get for any of our other outfielders.
