  1. Yeah I dunno what your point there is. I loved the contract, I would have told you that before you made that post. But that doesn't change the fact it's been a disaster. Sticking to my guns and pretending it was a good idea just because I liked it at the time isn't how I roll. BTW even at the time I accepted his best season has already happened. I like it for a few reasons, one being that by the end of that deal, the AAV would probably be pretty average, which is still true, and I thought he'd still Marlins-level for a handful of years. I didn't think we were getting a slap singles hitter the next day.
  2. I don't know that the leash arguments work anymore. It's been a really long time. He stunk last year, he's stunk this year, it's August. We gave an almost-30-year-old with a bad back a fanboy contract, and now it's ours to overcome for years.
  3. Yeah I don't know how anyone has that take after watching the video like twice. He's literally waving at the dinosaur. Does anyone honestly believe you could yell that at a baseball game and not have at least one person confront you or immediately flag down stadium staff? I know this is sensitive material but I find that 'take' from Brinson really irresponsible. He's needlessly stoking the fire. Just own your mistake.
  4. I was 6 in 1994, so it's still pretty weird to me
  5. Fortunately I don't think he has yet even been ID'd and by he time that happens most will realize what happened. And the Rockies are definitely lucky he was not ID'd after issuing that statement. The teams have no good course of action. They either do this or wait to investigate and then get blasted for responding slowly. That everyone just stood around not reacting was a very clear sign the initial report was off.
  6. Oh, Twitter. And the Rockies, issuing a statement condemning a fan for a "slur" that turned out to be the name of their mascot, yelled as he is looking at said mascot. And a Brewers connection as it was originally accused of being yelled at Lewis Brinson.
  7. It's weird there's another one in 6 months.
  8. This thread is the first time I've realized that Counsell is dying his hair.
  9. Felix is 35 years old and won her first medal at the 2004 games. She's incredible. I think that's wildly more impressive than what Biles has done, even though Biles was unquestionably more dominant in her sport.
  10. Yes but not all that significantly. About 2 feet shorter and 8 inches thinner. There are a bunch of subtle differences all over the court though, such as the tip-off radius being smaller and the key being slightly smaller that work together to play tricks on your eyes. They also use the WNBA 3-point line (WNBA actually copied theirs).
  11. He's the same guy he's always been. Couldn't care less, he wears the right colors now.
  12. The nut puncher is a guy you love on your own team, but only your own team.
  13. The ratings have been a disaster so I wasn't all that surprised they stuck with high-profile basketball players when the gold medal game happened to conveniently fall during US prime time, though it is probably a bit later in the night than they'd want. There is always a chance Durant scores 50 and every NBA fan tunes in.
  14. It's on regular NBC
  15. I don't know either, but that's going to be the name of the game for the Bucks going forward. Whether they just get 1 title or 3-4 in 10 years will depend on those kind of mid-season value gets or FA bargains. They're not going to be in the mix for sexy names with essentially 3 max deals. I said this either during the Finals or shortly after, the strategy can't be retaining Tucker and Portis every year. It's going to have to be finding inefficiencies like that on a consistent basis. I also said this, but it's less scientific: I've never been a big fan of totally running it back. Particularly in the NBA I think infusing new blood can be more helpful to keep everyone hungry and mix up the dynamic.
  16. Yikes, what an awful waste of money. After the great Bobby Portis news, this offseason took a nose dive with the New York billionaire owners lowballing PJ Tucker, and now signing George Hill to anything other than a vet min deal (though bringing him back at all is bad enough). Couldn't disagree more. He is another reliable shooter with extensive playoff experience and he plays both ends of the floor. I'm confused why anyone would be so staunchly opposed to bringing him back. They probably didn't want to get rid of him in the first place but had to when the chance to get Holiday came up. I'm also already tired of this lowballing PJ Tucker narrative I keep seeing everywhere. Opting to forgo $40 million a year for PJ Tucker isn't low balling. I get it, he's tenacious and likes to play defense, but his one month in the spotlight is driving his reputation to insane levels.
  17. In reality this won't be mathematically clinched, if clinched at all, until the last 10 days or so of the season, so you're talking about sitting those guys down for a start. It's possible it's not until the last few days. Personally I'd just rather keep their juices flowing and let them throw 4 innings or whatever. I don't think avoiding the WS is even on the table. There is no WC game for 2nd place in the Central, that team is donezo. I don't do the paranoia thing; we should win this and it's a colossal choke if we don't, my confidence has nothing to do with what happens in the end. I don't get overly stressed about the matchups. It would be cool to see LAD get knocked out by SD in the WC, but either way the Brewers have to get through at least one truly great team to win the NL.
  18. While all true, these things do happen with a higher degree of frequency than fans of teams with big divisional leads at this point in the season like to admit - just ask the 2018 and 2019 Cubs;) What it takes is for the trailing team to just get on absolute fire and take full advantage of winning the remaining head to head matchups they have with the team they are chasing. Sort of. The Cubs went 16-12 in September in '18, with a 5-game lead I'm guessing that would win a division about 99% of the time. And the Brewers didn't really go gangbusters in the two series with them; they went 4-2, making it even harder to believe. And there was a tiebreaker game, so anything less than just scorching play from MKE and they would have held on. I think most people forget how dicey that last DET-MKE series was too. The Brewers very nearly lost both of the first 2 games.
  19. I assume the Jeffress saga has been hashed out here somewhere but couldn't find where. I was under the impression Jeffress fired agent39 in 2020, but I came across this Tweet Anyone know what happened here? Of course what sent me down this rabbit hole was thinking JJ can't possibly be worse than what we have going on right now, can he?
  20. For perspective the Brewers were 5GB on Sept. 1, 2018. The Cubs weren't particularly bad in September either, the Brewers were just white hot. I don't think the Reds are anywhere near as good as either team. This would require an epic meltdown to lose the division, which I guess is possible, but feels less possible with our SP.
  21. Cincy is 17-11 since July 1 and hasn't picked up a game.
  22. I see three at Camden inApril. I missed that; generally was only looking at the summer when I'd be most likely to go. I think we had one in late May in 2020 that never happened. Not sure though.
  23. The trip to Fenway looks neat. I was hoping somehow they'd get us the Camden Yards series we lost due to Covid but I guess that's never happening.
  24. I don't recall that. I remember something about how he was one of the leaders in doing something about the Blake shooting, and hinting that he knew he'd ruffled some feathers but it didn't sound so serious that he wouldn't play for the Bucks again. I dunno that they even would have gotten rid of him if the chance to get Holiday hadn't come up. I just looked it up again and sort of feels like Hill made something up in his head for why the Bucks traded him. I never got the sense the Bucks had any big problem with the walkout.
  25. Yeah I would have no problem bringing Hill back.
