  1. https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2828649-what-happened-in-green-bay?fbclid=IwAR3VjvvsAXgSMlBMaq-UyJbuCeuCqETdDp-sQv4_4DR2ODMaRJ7ZNNLvHLs In contrast to the McCarthy interview...this one is...quite explosive.
  2. I had a lot of worry going into last season about the rotation, but why are people still worried about this? I don't believe for a second this rotation will be worse than last year's. All the big pieces of it should be better and I guess they lost Wade Miley. They're pushing a bunch of ok veterans out of playing time in favor of superior talent. I'm just not overly concerned about it. Anything they get out of Nelson is gravy. I'm still thinking as if he can't pitch. I just get the feeling people are blowing Knebel's injury way out of proportion. It's a significant loss, but it should not be a death knell.
  3. Grandal has no experience framing for our guys and Pina has none with new pitchers. There's been ST but nothing like these situations.
  4. I would have let him come out if he didn't throw 20 pitches to Puig. Just seemed like the good stopping point.
  5. If it's not Freddy I'm guessing Albers. He's looked good and hasn't pitched since Sunday.
  6. I'd guess Sheets and Sabathia. Last CG I'm pretty sure was Nelson, Father's Day 2017. CGSO I have no idea.
  7. To me, that would scream, "I'm having fun playing baseball," which is a good thing. Clearly, he hasn't been good at the plate during the bulk of his short career, but nobody here knows why. Just because he smiles and laughs and has fun doesn't mean he isn't trying to get better. I remember when we had our team picture for the baseball team in high school, I was the only one who smiled. One of my teammates asked me why and said, "You have to take the game seriously." "I do take it seriously," I said. "But I can have fun at the same time." It's all mumbo jumbo. If he never smiled, it would be something about how he's not having fun out there and thinking too much. Sorta like how Aaron Rodgers's grimaces take on new meaning every other year.
  8. I'm not really seeing a connection being dissatisfaction of being .500 and trading for Sabathia and Greinke. I think you may be reading into that a bit much, and I don't think Mark A. would ever say he regrets getting either of those guys at the cost paid. I'm also not sure those deals left them in .500 purgatory either. Something like signing Aramis Ramirez for 3/36 would fit that mold more for me.
  9. At a certain point it gets a bit circular. It's harder to bust it down the line when you are 1-20, you start to get down on yourself and it breeds bad habits. That's how most people are wired. "****, I grounded out again." Then the crappy habits hurt performance. It's not an excuse, but it really stands out when you're not performing. I don't know what his deal is. This guy was hitting .280 two seasons ago.
  10. That ad makes me laugh. Moose wouldn't be my first choice for a dramatic reading. And I really wonder how familiar he is with Wisconsin Avenue, and it's big stretch IMO that he dreams about parading down it, lol.
  11. Fair to point out it's 60 degrees today, a day game, and there are a lot more people in attendance.
  12. I'm not at all. Gamel has serious wheels. I don't know what he's timed at but the guy just flies. I was pretty meh on him, but after watching him in game I think he has serious sleeper addition potential.
  13. Meh... Cooper was a 1st basemen. Walker was an EXCELLENT right fielder with a cannon for an arm who swiped bags at a pretty good clip too. And he won an MVP. He was a complete ballplayer by any measure of the term who should be and will be in the HOF. Don't disagree but Coop was a GG winner, a top 10 MVP vote-getter for several years, and if he hit either bench mark, would be in. It's really hard to get in without doing one of the two, at least it was before PEDs...just saying. Conversations in life veer into other topics. I never got the "can we stick to this" stuff. It is of no harm, but I do agree it's oddly off this track in this case, lol. Those HOF convos are just always a lot of fun to me.
  14. Murphy is an ex-player, and a good one at that, Harlan was not. One had the life experience of corporate schmoozing and a career in SID, one did not. It should not come as any surprise that Murphy is weak in an area Harlan was very strong. The cold, brash firing is what I'd expect from a professional athlete.
  15. Hard to get in without 3k hits or 500 bombs. You essentially have to be Ozzie with the leather. Walker is a decent comp with Cecil Cooper, who isn't in for the same reason.
  16. I thought it was interesting how MM has spent a lot of time talking about taking the emotion out of things and approaching things with a level head. I remember a clip of him after the playoff loss to AZ in 2009 and he dropped to the sidelines in agony. He later talked about how embarrassing that was and how "unemotional" he is. Yet he is upset at the lack of emotion in getting fired. I get it, if you're him, you want a hero's send off. I think, honestly, Murphy was probably cold because the two were friends, for the most part, and it was easier to be direct and matter-of-fact about it. I'd prefer it that way myself if I were getting fired. Just get the message out and send me on the way.
  17. Braun signed an 8-year deal for like $50mm the same year that Sabathia signed for 7/$160mm I believe. I know these are very imperfect comparisons but Braun signed a very reasonable extension. I think people are very revisionist about this. When Braun signed the 5-year extension for $100mm or whatever it was, he would go on to win MVP and was regarded as one of the best hitters in baseball. PEDs were not even on the radar, he was Mr. Golden Boy. He was absolutely going to be the modern Yount. When he signed that lifetime deal it was a celebratory moment. I am in agreement with holding off on Yelich. But I don't think, given the context and inability to predict Braun's scandal, that they deserve criticism for it. The PED situation was not just hard to predict, but Braun was a brand's fantasy come to life. Everybody in WI loved him at the time. He was BFF with the Packer's QB for Pete's sake.
  18. McCarthy did a long sit-down interview with espn.com. Nothing really mindblowing in it, typical MM stuff. But he is clearly razzed by how he was fired.
  19. I think that was definitely a factor at play, Tplush. And I don't think they are wrong for it. Guys like that are still putting people in the seats when the team is so-so. Despite the PED thing he is still a revered figure in MKE. I also agree that they're not getting a post-career Yount guy, Braun just isn't that guy. He's a SoCal guy and he'll be there when he's done playing. The blowback from Fielder and Braun walking away would have been catastrophic from a branding perspective. Remember that around the time, they also (expectedly) offered Sabathia a deal that he and his agent basically laughed at. There was definitely a prevailing thought that we could not do anything but trade our best players away.
  20. I think you have to be a curmudgeon to try to say the CC trade wasn't great. It rejuvenated a franchise that had been a laughing stock for almost three decades. I wouldn't care if every guy we dealt wound up an all-star. That run to the playoffs was badly needed. If watching Sabathia isn't one of the best moments as a Brewers fan I think you're someone who won't ever be satisfied - the kind of person who'd complain after winning the WS that we didn't win more. Those types exhaust me.
  21. Yeah, 22 is young, I'm just not sure he's cut out for starting. He can definitely get guys out and has shown flashes of brilliance, but I just have a hunch he's either going to the pen or San Antonio in the not so distant future.
  22. You can't have it both ways. He's not a $20mm open market player now, but he was probably more than that when they bought out years of his youth. I agree that it was excessive and generally it's not a good practice. But the fact is the majority of people and prognosticators thought Braun gave the team a discount. I guess you saw the light, but I'm just stating a fact that at the time the consensus was that they "got a deal." I'll repeat with specifics: Any baseball executive would have signed him to that deal. His first or second year in the league, Doug Melvin said every big market called to trade for him. Those teams would have happily forked over $200mm for him. Also, I think the team has tried to trade him numerous times and just hasn't been able to close the deal. Ship has probably sailed now, but I think DS salivated as the thought of getting that budget flexibility back.
  23. Obviously hope I'm wrong on this, but I have doubts Freddy Peralta is going to make it through May as a part of this rotation.
