Yeah that had to be the wrong alignment. I finally watched the game last night (listened to it on Sunday). Martin was held on this play as he was trying to get to the hole. Without the hold, he has a shot at the RB (though still not in the best position). No idea what Kirksey was doing - he was outside the box completely; outside the LT.
[sarcasm]All in the master plan![/sarcasm] Of course, the "best team" rarely wins the Super Bowl. Normally, its the hottest team at the end. Time to RELAX and run the table.
I think Pina is a safer player for 2020, but looking at the long term, he is 33 (turning 34 mid-2021) and Narvaez has the higher upside. Not to mention he is a left-handed hitter (which our current management teams values highly). If I were the GM, I'd bet on Narvaez over Pina personally. Nottingham takes Pina's place as the RH catcher tandem. Regarding pitch framing: Seeing the Narvaez was considered horrible at this previously and suddenly became great at it last year, how legit is this of a "skill"? How much is reliant on the pitchers? Or is it easily changed by basic coaching? Just seems dubious that it was so easily altered by him coming to Milwaukee.
For all the chatter about the coin flip, I think one key point is missed. Accepting and Deferring doesn't have direct effect on how many possessions you have (unless you can predict the flow the game ahead of time). But by deferring, you get to pick the direction you start. And playing outside in windy conditions, that can be key. We've had at least two games where we could barely through the ball in one direction. With regard to sacks, I think one key has been the number of short passes and play-action passes. Rodgers used to be famous for standing back there for 5+seconds waiting for someone to open up. MLF has finally convinced him to play the short game more often, so defenses are getting less of a chance to T-off on him.
Perhaps describing how the spin on the ball helps the flight path of the ball doesn't help generate an appropriate offense/defense? Or perhaps I've missed my calling as an NFL head coach since I also have an engineering degree... Maybe I'll apply for the Packer DC next year.
I'm not sure why we need a RT next year. I was actually thinking that after an abismal year at RG, Turner has done very well at RT. Not Bulaga level, but very solid out there.
[sarcasm]Start both offenses and both defenses at the 45yd line (45 yards from the goal line - going opposite directions). You only get 4 downs to score or you go back to the 45 yd line; snaps happen (essentially) at the same time. Each team has equal possessions and the first team that has the lead wins.[/sarcasm] I put that in blue, but the more I think about it the more I like it.
He used to be used on the jet sweep, too. Would be nice to have a backup they are comfortable using. It's pretty obvious they won't run it (though MVS should be able to handle it) without Ervin.
Can the Badgers even be bowl eligible this year? Normally, leaving early really bugs me, but given COVID cancellations, no bowl chance (I think), little chance at a BIG10 championship, and his injury, I can't really blame him this year.
I was at a car dealership about a month ago and they had a little thing on the base of the door that had some kind of grip or mini spikes on it that you could "grab" with the sole of your shoe and pull the door open. I've seen these at some bars as well, which is probably one of the worst offenders for 'grossest bathroom potential' at the end of the night.... My workplace put them in after sending most of us home at the height of the first wave (~May/June). It takes a bit of coordination to balance and open the door with your foot. I'm surprised no one had hurt themselves yet. At a bar, I'd be stunned people could manage it.
Something like $38M more with Milwaukee. Their depth is certainly less than last year, but the starting 5 is better. It all depends on if the team plays like pre-COVID or post. They were really flat in the bubble.
So how long does it have to be there before people stop calling it Miller Park? I'm not sure it will ever stick with me, but I still call Pluto a planet...
Agreed. Mertz, Berger, our OL (including many incoming huge recruits), Dike, plus some incoming 4 star WRs could make our offense pretty potent for a number of years. Too bad Ferguson wasn't aligned fully with this group.
Burrows isn't the first #1 pick of a QB that had to play behind a horrible line. Nor will he be the last. It might be a little easier now to bench a #1 pick because the cap hit isn't as big as 20 years ago, but just look at how much flak the Packers are getting for "benching" their first round pick.
Portis and Giannis. Their best lineup last year came with Giannis playing Center. It'll require him to play more than 30 minutes a game, but that shouldn't be too difficult. Sure, the center isn't what it used to be. B-Lopez is pretty unique in that he can play anywhere out to the 3pt line on offense, yet protect the rim on defense. Having a rim-protector is pretty important for our defense - someone not Giannis - in case Brook is injured. I'd rather not have Giannis playing center and banging against 250-300lb guys (on some teams at least).
Not sure why we are nit-picking on offense vs. defense... Both were decent/good in the 1st half and poor in the second half. Both can be blamed for the second half regression. Interesting. Get them back to 1st and 10 to have a better chance to stop them on 3 downs.
