    Wow, prayers for the Mendez. That is a scary situation. This is why I'm not for plunking players intentionally. I know this wasn't intentionally, but just shows (in extreme) what can happen. Just no reason to add risk to the game.

    So, the starting 5 are pretty well set and look fairly strong (assuming Bulaga is healthy). However, this is one of the least impressive set of backups that I can remember in a long time. Kyle Murphy - RT: Perhaps the best of the lot so far. Murphy has actually looked pretty competent out there. If Bulaga is out for the starter, I tend to think Murphy gets the start. Jason Spriggs - LT/RT: Spriggs has been a human turnstile this preseason. He actually looked better against Denver, but still gave up sacks/pressure on inside moves. I can forgive it against Von Miller. Then he seemed to solidify before getting beaten on an inside move again. Kofi Amichia, Thomas Evans, Lucas Patrick, Justin McCray, Geoff Gray - Inside OL: I haven't watched these guys individually, but there has been a ton of pressure up the middle all preseason. Stunts have completely blown up this unit and run blocking hasn't been great up the middle either. After advocating to get rid of Don Barclay the last two seasons, I actually can't wait for him to get back healthy. I would not be surprised at all if there is a late trade or waiver wire pickup for a backup OL.

    I smoke a Tri-tip today for the first time. Its called a poor man's prime rib and I can see why. There was a bit of gristle in it, but most of it was very tender. There is little fat in it, so I smoked it to medium-rare to my wife's chagrin. But I thought it was pretty good. One of my sons had thirds. I also smoked some chicken legs along side and one of my daughters had three of them. My six year old son had a chicken leg and two small pieces of tri-tip. Nice to know that my kids like my cooking.

    I don't buy that we will see a bunch of two-TE sets. We will see Bennett split out and Kendricks fill in. I think the point of two-TE sets is that they can either run or split out Bennett. Put out nickle or dime and they run. Put out 3 LBs and they go 5 wide (Bennett, Kendricks and Montegomery). That is a tough lineup to defend.

He is still a good WR with flexibility to come out of the backfield and return punts. He is sure-handed and smart (he will be a coach someday for sure). But he isn't what he was. He is good, but being paid for great. His contract runs to next year when his cap hit will be $12.75M and his dead cap number would be $3.25M. Thus, cutting him would save $9.5M. So I think this year is really critical for him. If he puts up another 60R-610YD season like last year and some of the young guys are playing equal to him, he will probably be cut or asked to restructure. And its tough decisions TT makes like that keep the Packers from having salary cap problems.

    I wouldn't trade any of them and I have no problem having the two rookies start the season as bench players. Braun, Santana, Broxton, Brinson, Phillips and I'd feel pretty good about those five. There just aren't enough starts for 5 starting quality players among those three spots. Hopefully Broxton ends the season well and they can get a decent return for him. Then Braun, Brinson, Phillips and Santana in the OF makes a pretty quality group. Brinson and Phillips can tandem and give Braun/Santana breaks or injury replacements.

    Most likely he was brought in as a AAA fodder to keep some quality arms there if/when we call up others. CS is headed for the playoffs, so probably a short term AAA move. I doubt he remains on the 40-man after the season and Ventura or Wilkerson can be added then. [sarcasm]I have to say that I loved Aaron Brooks as a Packer, though. He had the arm to pitch, but not the accuracy.[/sarcasm]

    No official word on why RHP Brandon Woodruff left after this sequence, 50 pitches in (30 for strikes) -- New Orleans Bottom of the 3rd Peter Mooney grounds out, third baseman Ivan De Jesus Jr. to first baseman Chris Colabello. [sarcasm]When you hit an announcer, especially one in another stadium, you probably should be pulled.[/sarcasm] Seriously though, perhaps he was ejected for the HBP?

    I don't want Garza back here next year in any capacity. Send him packing and let someone else have him... I tend to think Garza is decent in an SP role and is worth the $5M option. But the best use of him would be to trade him off to another team and promote... Corbin Burnes (see how I pulled the thread back on topic? )

    It was me. I looked at the post and it was about claiming a minor league player and DFAing another minor league player. Didn't seem to belong in the MLB forum. There is even speculation about the claim being for the AAA playoffs. I did it twice because I figured I messed something up the first time. I never expected that someone would move it back to the MLB forum.

    I was checking out his stats the other day and noticed this. Nicest part of this is that his OPS is being driven by AVE/OBP. His SLG is under 500. And SLG can fill in later.

    Here is his draft write up: Pitching in Hawaii and with more pitchability than pure stuff, it might have been easy to forget about this second best pitching prospect from the islands. But a championship tournament start, and win, against the state's best prospect, potential first rounder Kodi Medeiros, certainly helped this right-hander's stock. Yamamoto tossed a complete-game, two-hit shutout in that contest, impressing with his four-pitch arsenal and his control. He was 92-93 mph from start to finish with his fastball and can command the pitch well. He throws both a slider and a curveball, with the former being a more advanced pitch right now. He also has good feel for a changeup, giving him the chance to have four Major League average or better pitches. He's not the biggest guy in the world, but he's athletic and durable, with every chance to start at the next level. While Medeiros will clearly come off the board first, a team that takes this Hawaiian high schooler later [on] might get a nice steal.

    This came up last year in the game threads. If I recall correctly, he has pedestrian stuff with good control. 4 ok pitches with FB topping in low 90s.

    Oh... AAA playoffs. That makes more sense. I knew CS was doing well this year, but wasn't thinking playoffs.

    He could be. I hadn't seen/remembered him in the slot. But that doesn't mean anything. Given his size/speed combo, I would expect him to be more an outside player.

    I'll also add that we just purchased a new TV (the old one died) that has Roku built into it. So we have quite a few other channels also.

    I'm loving Vue right now and no cable but...my wife is having a hard time finding her favorite channels/shows on it. Lifetime Movies, Hallmark Channel that kind of stuff. Sling has Hallmark, but I'm not sure about Lifetime. Many of the Netflix/Amazone/Hulu are picking up Hallmark TV series also. Depending on if she wants to wait or not. This is sort of what I was talking about. It is a lot of rigamarole to save $5-10 bucks a month I was in a spot where Dish was the only logical choice for our location. But after moving, I was able to pick up a lot more OTA and that helped make the change. I'm saving ~$100/month so its certainly worth it for me.

    David has a PR for a TD and a PR fumble. Lots of potential, but how patient will MM be with him? McCaffrey is a very similar player with a little less splash on returns, but maybe a bit more route capability as an WR. I think Davis/McCaffrey/Janis are playing for one spot and McCaffrey is probably leading at this point. That being said, the skillsets that Nelson and McCaffrey provide do make Cobb somewhat redundant. While Nelson will take some slot WR snaps, I don't think McCaffrey has been. Any specific reason you mentioned that?

    Curious move. Stat-wise, I can't see anything interesting about this guy. High WHIP, low K rate, high ERA. Even going back in time, his best year was about 3.7 ERA. MLB level has been a nightmare, yet he keeps getting SP chances. The scouts must be seeing something that the stats don't tell... (I hope).

    I only have a 10Mbs connection. For full HD, you only really need around 5-6Mbs. However, if you have multiple people streaming that eats up quickly. We only have one TV running on it. If the kids are on the computer, the bandwidth gets tight. I would agree that if you like having a lot of content, you might as well pay cable or satellite. We are more than happy with OTA, Netflix, Amazon, MLB.TV and NFL.TV. In fact, I've thought about dropping Netflix because we have more than enough to watch the way it is. Each to his own.

    I recently moved to the MSP metro area from a rural WI area so I dropped Dish network. Right now we are running: - Tivo DVR ($300 for subscriptionless lifetime service) - Netflix + Amazon (was doing Prime for other reasons) = ~$20/month - Other apps with free content (Vudu, Youtube, etc,etc...) - MLB.TV (out of state gets me Brewer coverage as long as they aren't playing the Twins) - $80/year as I got a special deal - NFL replay - $100: I can watch all the preseason live + Replays - OTA TV: I get about 20 TV channels from a wimpy antenna that I installed. So, I lost some channels we used to watch but still have way more than I need (less is more sometimes). Costs us $300 up front and about $35/month in comparison to $120/month for dish. Doing it for 6 months and already putting money back in my pocket.

    The Warriors seem to be able to beat Lebron enough. I can see trying to coordinate with Giannis' max potential, but we can't fear other players/teams and try to peak when they aren't. Windows close quickly sometimes. Remember when we thought Lebron/Wade/Bosch was going to dominate NBA championships for a long time? And they only got two? And even then they had to sign several "falling stars" (i.e. Ray Allen) to get there.
