  1. he is still average to below average at blocking balls and he is well below average at throwing runners out. I think you are underselling Lucroy on both of these accounts. Last year, perhaps. This year, I would say above average on blocking and average on throwing runners out. I don't know Belt, so I won't comment on Lucroy vs. Belt. it isn't in Melvin's MO to trade for prospects, he's more into trading our prospects away DM has done both in the past. Maybe not high-profile prospects, but he has traded both ways.
  2. Napoli, ... were good guys... That's not what I hear from Chris Carpenter...
  3. The only way I wouldn't be disappointed at Green being back in AAA is if Ramirez, Wright or some other quality 3B is acquired. As of right now, Green deserves a shot to at least platoon at 3B.
  4. Tony Plush is on the phone right now explaining this to CC's son...
  5. Ok, we looked at pitching, hitting and defense... How about coaching? The coaches sit down with the pitchers and catchers and devise a game-plan, right? How to attack each hitter. After seeing each other several times this season (including twice in the NLCS for Grienke and Marcum), did our coaches (help) fail by poor game planning? Did we try to do the same thing as always and the Cardinals were ready for it? I'm sure they looked at film and figured out what a certain pitcher was trying to do to them.
  6. I'd look at Oswalt but only after dealing both Wolf and Marcum. I'd do the opposite, actually (well, trading one anyway). Better to have him in hand, then work out the trade. Hate to get caught short-handed at pitcher.
  7. Gindl had pretty extreme home/road slugging splits, didn't he? Maybe that was Green, but I think it was Gindl. It was Gindl. Sickles brought that up about 2/3rds through the season. Green, Schafer and Gamel were a bit more level for home/road splits (although, I think all had better road numbers). Gindl's was the most pronounced. edit - Some of that discussion was here: http://brewersfandemonium...sion-Thread#reply-761985 As of Aug 30th, I had the following splits for those in question: Gindl: 420/555 Schafer: 488/513 Green: 541/624 Gamel: 621/502
  8. History - Played for Pittsburgh. Personality rubbed people the wrong way. Ended poorly, but not really bad. - Played for Washington. Again, personality issues wore out his welcome after 1.5 seasons. Traded to Brewers for a mid-level draft pick (I might like Little Pine, but his ceiling is probably Nyjer Morgan). - Nyger has only one poor season (out of 5) on the field. So its not his play that is necessarily the problem. This year: - Strong bounce back year on the field (from his only poor year). - Found a niche where his quirky personality is accepted and even a cult following. - Plays a spark plug role for the team and seems to be well liked by players and coaches. With all of that and you were a GM and finds out DM is shopping Morgan, wouldn't red flags flap wildly? You mean even in a place where he is well liked and played well, they don't want him? If he is part of a larger trade package, I can see it, but otherwise, I think he would need at least two strong years (with maybe Schafer pushing him out) before he has high trade value.
  9. Last three years he had OPS of 831, 708 and 788. Career is 831. To even pay half his salary ($9M+) and a few mid-level prospects for that seems like way too much. Gamel most likely could provide that and if there are doubts, I'm sure a FA or two would be available to reach that also.
  10. Obviously the reason we lost was that no one came up with some type of Mike Wisowski eyeball move. Maybe they could've rolled instead of sliding, or they could've implemented Mike's patented front-flip-land-on-crotch move that got all the kids laughing. Actually, if Yuni did that move a few times, it may have had a positive effect on the team. How true. We all know that laughter is 10x more powerful than screams... I liked how it showed team unity. I liked how it showed that the team liked each other (cowboy picture here also) and supported each other. Baseball is billed as an individualistic sport (at least compared to basketball or football). But team unity is still important and people need to be supported. Very few people are true mavericks. But it has to be genuine and not mechanical either. I enjoy watching baseball when the players are enjoying playing baseball (well at least my team). Ok, and winning helps too.
  11. I think he'll take a big step forward in 2010. Well, he did take a big step forward. Unfortunately, he was facing the wrong way... Unfortunately, he wasn't a great selection of awesome. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif
  12. Hopefully Ke. Davis shows enough here to get a AA promotion. I just have a feeling that he and Brevard didn't get along for some reason. He seems to have hit well elsewhere. Also, JSOnline is reporting that Bradley will pitch after all. He will replace Thornburg. That might add a little more interest here. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  13. I didn't get to see many games, so I can't say I was really tired of it. I'd agree that if it was done on every little "good" play, it would get tiring. Bigger game changing plays is one thing. I enjoyed seeing the interaction between someone on 2nd or 3rd and the dugout. It will probably be done next year (Fielder or no-Fielder), but I for one, enjoy the player interactions and the fan-player interactions (OOOOOOOOOOOOO-verbay, Tomahawk chop, Lambeau Leap, etc...). But you do need to keep them for special occasions.
  14. Since none of us want to sign Fielder at 7yrs, $30M/year and all of us would take him at 5yrs $10M/year. How about this question: How high would you go to sign Fielder?
  15. I'm pretty sure Ryan makes enough money to hire a body guard if he needs it. The bigger question is who will Ryan box with after HRs?
  16. They were this season. If I needed one at-bat & could pick any hitter, though, it's still Pujols. The past 3-4 years, Pujols earned that reputation, not a media invention. He was a little off this year, but he sure looks dangerous right now. Game 5 - Greinke Game 6 - Marcum (on a short hook, Narveson on hold) Game 7 Game 1 - Gallardo Fixed! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  17. Keep Greinke on regular rest. He has mentioned that he doesn't like pitching on a long rest. So lets keep him where he is most comfortable physically and mentally. After getting roughed up the last couple times, limit any possible source of discomfort. And make sure he has his own pillow....
  18. I like the idea. Less repetitive that way. Although, when I jumped into the thread, somehow I started at Bomber's ESPN picture (missed the explanation). So I was trying to figure out why we had "101". My first thought was that someone put it up in binary, but then I realized "101" in binary is "5" in decimal, so that didn't fit. FYI, "110" in binary is "6". http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif http://images.wikia.com/disney/images/7/74/101_dalmatians.jpg Too many puppies, not enough wins.
  19. Ok, I think its time to resurrect this thread... http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Vy2Puo54Ko0/TCk0LCa1LqI/AAAAAAAAH8c/BDTJRRN3Y9E/s1600/Number6.gif
  20. We're winning the next two three. Fixed! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  21. Wow! Remember when the only real Brewer interest in October was the AFL? Its been going on for a week and its crickets here. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  22. if this NLCS was Cubs v. Cardinals Boy, that would be hard... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  23. Seeing that Soup played for both teams, he seems like a logical choice. Especially given some of his success from the Cardinal's side. You can't be made at Soup for his performance in Milwaukee. It wasn't like he slacked off and grumbled around here. He gave everything he had while with Milwaukee and was a good citizen also. Considering him with Sheffield is a joke. His physical ability dropped off. Can't really blame him for that. It happens to 30+ pitchers. Blame the GM if anyone. The only thing Soup could have done better in Milwaukee (that was in his control) was to ensure he had his pillow with him at all times.
  24. I wasn't going to bring this up, but since it fits in this thread... I had a dream last night that Gallardo was trounced (like 7-0) and the Cards went up 3-1 with 2 more games in Stl. (Hey, I didn't say it made sense, but it was my dream). It was real enough that I awoke agitated and a little depressed. I had to keep reminding myself that the series is tied 1-1 and that Gallardo has been pitching great before I could go back to sleep. Thankfully, I'm no prophet. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  25. Jumping the shark may not be classy, but its a Milwaukee thing. And since the Brewers are in the playoffs, these are Happy Days.... AYYYYYYYY! http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_nIBfM-fEYb4/TT4Dm6irnDI/AAAAAAAAAns/vYg803nkDgc/s1600/what-would-fonzie-do.jpg
