  1. The Brewers really need to jettison 2 pitchers by Aug 31st and replace them with position players. One should happen tomorrow, either Dillard or De La Cruz and the other shortly after. This team hardly has work for a 12 man staff, no reason to carry 13 when on Aug 31st it should be an 11 man staff for the playoff roster. Yeah, no disagreement there. I just mentioned that it won't be Taylor. I can see Gamel coming up for a couple days, if they want him eligible for the playoffs. But chances are, Weeks and Gomez will be back for the playoffs and they will replace a couple of players that are currently on the 25-man squad.
  2. If Taylor didn't come up back when we really needed him, he isn't suddenly coming up now. Sept 1st is probably the time he bumps up.
  3. but when people on here are talking about Fiers, Rivas and Austin Ross as guys who could be significant big league contributers, I tend to log off. I realize Fiers doesn't light up the radar gun, but I don't know how you can look at what he has accomplished at AA and AAA and not see how he could be a decent 4-5 SP or at worst, a BP guy. There are plenty of guys in the MLB that continue to defy thier scouting reports. Rivas seems to have a longer shot for that same ceiling. Ross a much longer road to hoe.
  4. No problem giving Rogers the Johan Santana treatment (starting in the MLB BP, then switching to starting later), granted for different reasons. But the real question next year will be: Will the Defending WS Champioin Brewers want a rookie in the BP? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  5. So what spot should Rickie bat in when he comes back? First or fifth?
  6. He got stitched up quickly and didn't have anything beyond a flesh wound and it will be almost 2 weeks. Bah! If it was the black knight, he wouldn't have missed any starts at all! http://cdn.goldlabel.com/wp-content/themes/GoldLabel_1r4/images/product-categories/monty-python/monty-python-black-knight-merchandise.jpg
  7. I can't wait until we can post a picture of King George!
  8. When I got to "Abner", my first thought was "Little Abner" from the comic strip. But that's even more appropriate, since he got to be so big and stong by drinking the local "firewater". http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  9. I would hope it would at least be an open competition in ST next year.
  10. After losing to the Pirates in extra innings, the Cardinals flipped us (in a classy way) this one: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-mEw0ffGpbdk/TdLEBarzRXI/AAAAAAAACwM/lC9Biv9SAI0/s1600/larrybird.jpg
  11. I'm sorry, but power blue is only allowed as sarcasm on throw-back jersey nights. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  12. Many HS players with strong commitments to college will drop much farther. The Brewers have drafted many guys in the late teens over the years (Gennett, Howell) and give them bigger bonuses to lure them away from college. Then, if they don't sign, it doesn't hurt as much to lose an 18th round draft pick instead of the 3-4th round where he might normally been drafted. Which leads to my question: And speculation on where McFarland would have been drafted if not for the Rice commitment? Does the 3rd round seem right?
  13. in addition to 3rd catcher duties, the most important function "the Barber" could serve as a September call-up would be to cut Ryan Braun's hair; And risk becoming "Delilah" to our "Samson"?
  14. ...the only issue is the Tigers are compiling a lengthly list of players who can rake but can't field a lick Yeah, that's our schtick! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  15. Green and Mat Gamel (.325, 25 HRs, 86 RBI at Nashville), both left-handed hitters, could be allowed to battle it out for the first-base job. Or the Brewers could opt to move Casey McGehee from third to first and let Green and Gamel vie for the starting job at third, with the other going to the bench. I still think Gamel at 1B and a platoon of Green/McGehee at 3B is more probable. With McGehee eventually becoming trade bait.
  16. LaFromboise is, of course, French for "the Fromboise". While so many internet sports sites have gone to paid subscribers to get premium content like this, so *hat tip* to BF not forcing that. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Feel free to provide "Support BF.net" link here too!
  17. Well, at least its accurate then. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  18. Better muerto than rojo. Doesn't roll off the tongue quite as nicely, but still classic!
  19. I guess I always thought it was more for those teams out of the race rather than those vying for a playoff spot. (Granted its been rare for us to be in the playoffs contention...) That way, teams like Houston and Chicago can call up prospects to: 1) Get a quick look at them before ST. 2) Attract more fans to see the new players. And I'm guessing that since #2 effects money, that its the main reason.
  20. I haven't gone so far as handlebars, but I did shave my 'stache once... My wife said grow it back. I guess less of my face is a good thing...
  21. Bingo! That is the one. I'm pretty sure it would be a 2011 article, since it mentioned Saito. Perhaps its not online yet, only out in print first... Edit - found a MLB article about it. Happened back in May: MILWAUKEE -- The Brewers had a little fun Saturday courtesy of Maxim magazine, which gave closer John Axford $848 to blow in one day and chronicled his spending spree for an upcoming feature. Axford treated the coaches to an arrangement of flower-shaped cookies, bought a lucky fan lunch at Friday's restaurant at Miller Park and hired an Elvis impersonator and a clown to celebrate Takashi Saito's birthday ... which was in February. Saito is allegedly a huge Elvis fan prone to belting out The King's hits in karaoke bars. The clown made him a nice hat out of balloons, which Saito wore for his afternoon workout in the weight room.
  22. Sounds like McFarland is just waiting for the Brewers to knock his socks off and if not, on to Rice. Anyone hear any news about Andrew Cain or Mallex Smith?
  23. “I feel a lot smarter, I read more, which is weird, I can play the flute all of a sudden…it’s weird how that happens," says Yost. Awesome! New signature line. I always thought it was my intelligence and good looks, but now I find out its my 'stache! (Proud 'stache owner since I was 16)
  24. Ok, I was taking a sauna at the YMCA this morning and someone left the Sept 2011 copy of Maxim in there. So I as I was perusing the articles, I came across one about the Brewers and specifically John Axford. Basically, Maxim gave him a bunch of money to pull pranks and treat his teammates to some fun. I wish they had a video link for Saito's Elvis-clown-Happy-Birthday greeting. Or even Saito's "Thank you,....thank you very much" response. Evidently they asked Prince Fielder what he would do if they gave him $848. He said, "Buy some DVDs". Then they realized that $848 to Fielder with a $15M+salary is like asking you or I what we would do with a nickle... HAHA. Anyway, I'm at work, so I'm not even going to try to find a web link for it, but it was a hilarious read. And if you don't want to read it, go for the pictures.... of Axford and company.
  25. EXXXX-cellent (said while drumming my finger tips together)... Now, Gallardo only needs a perfect game no-hitter with 22Ks and my prediction is complete!
