  1. Interesting that Wheeler played 2b. Is he now being groomed as a utility player? Hopefully he gets back to AAA soon since he belongs there I would think so. His bat doesn't look like he could start at 3B and his defense isn't good enough to start at SS. Hopefully, Taylor is bumped up to 3B and Wheeler can take his place at AAA. But until then, there really isn't room at AAA. In other thoughts, Fiers, Bucci and Maldonado are quickly solidifying themselves as my under-dog favorites. I'm beginning to think that Bucci will help ease the loss of Odorizzi. Free Khris Davis and TJ Mittelstaedt! (Man, its going to take a while to learn how to spell that and I lived in Germany for a year, too...)
  2. Erik Komatsu (Little Pine) is one of my irrational favorites to follow (not a big prospect, but I just like him). He profiles as a 4th OF or lower-end RF starter. High OBP, lower SLG. Can play CF in a pinch. I can see him being one of the PTBNL options. Khris Davis has Braun-esque potential. He will be a LFer or 1B with limited defense, but has been just killing the ball. But he won't get national attention until he does it at AA, which (as mentioned above), we are pulling our hair out wondering why is isn't there now... Here are the guys that I would count as the untouchables (for this trade at least): Gamel, Thornburg (confirmed), Peralta, Scarpetta, and Khris Davis. Further, I'm hopeful that these are also excluded, but I could see where they might be included: Taylor Green, Bucci, Heckathorn, Schafer, and Rivas. I would imagine the very bottom end for his market is 3 years and $21 million, but most likely 3 years and $24-30 million is the true bottom of the line. And no matter what the actual bottom end is, it only matters what Boras thinks and wants the bottom end to be...
  3. Managers don't allow guys to throw more innings like they did before the early 80's. Wouldn't that artificially deflate WAR for modern pitchers? But isn't WAR relative to that season? So it would normalize based on how players are generally used in that season. Or even other factors like improvements in the ball or bat, park factors, or general fitness (I'll avoid 'roids here).
  4. From the University of South Carolina's Rivals site DOH! I read the body of the post, but not the title of the link. Plus thinking football and...
  5. If it helps, there is a thread here questioning why McClendon is still at AAA, when we were having BP issues at the MLB level. He isn't a fireballer or a closer, but will probably have a nice career as a good BP arm.
  6. Probably because he put up 281/309/414/723 last year and 279/309/446/754 this year at AAA, and his prior MLB numbers (limited and unproven) are nothing to speak of (221/275/260/535). The only improvement he could provide might be defensively over YB. But offensively, probably be much worse. If we are going to upgrade, lets finds someone that is really an upgrade, not just shuffle in another body.
  7. (was his demotion a surprise? Seemed like he was getting semi-regular time at a few different positions, and obviously McGahee has really struggled this year) No, no surprise. Perhaps a surprise that he stayed up past inter-league play. We all knew he was only up to play DH (or allow Fielder to DH). And he really isn't a 3B anymore. Just couldn't quite handle the defense. But if you really want him, maybe we could make a deal for David Wright. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  8. Yes, very nice interview. Thanks for sharing. Love the website name, also. FYI, I think there was one typo: Finish this sentence: “If I were playing baseball, I’d be…” I'm guessing you meant "weren't".
  9. You sir have now been banished to the major league forum! No, not that! I profess my undying love for Vinny! After all, I've lived in both the Racine and LaCrosse areas (LaCrosse is better, BTW). "Prince has now matched his 2010 home run total--and I wouldn't be surprised if they're still matched at year's end." He only needed three months to make me a liar. Not only that, but he improved by 100%!
  10. I really doubt its Gamel. If he were an option, why would they not take him now? Why wait? Stetter makes sense, since he is rehabbing, so they could simply be waiting for him to get healthy. McClendon might be a backup to Stetter if he has a rehab setback. But Gamel makes NO sense whatsoever (except from the Met's fan "I-wish" point of view). Welcome TurkWendell and thanks for your contributions!
  11. Well, he had a string of 3 bad starts in June, which prompted the Brewers to give him 10 days rest. And since then he has had 4 good starts. And he is about to turn 21.
  12. Vinny's 124 RBI with Beloit in 2004 remains the singular most impressive full-season statistic I've seen in 11 years of Link Reporting here. RBIs are all luck! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  13. My second guess is that the Mets & Brewers will wind up making a cash deal... and that actually might be my first guess. So we end up trading CV for K-Rod? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Another name that needs to be protected from this list would be Bucci. Which shouldn't be an issue, since the Brewers seem pretty high on him.
  14. Having multiple 1st round, supplemental, and/or 2nd round picks will probably have more to do with some of that philosophy than this year's draft. BPA is always nice to say, but after the first 10 picks or so of the draft, there always seem to be a few players (increasing as you go) rated around the same at each pick. But each could vary greatly in time to majors, ceiling, etc... Having multiple early picks allows for more variation in those picks. At least theoretically.
  15. being at USC seems to be pretty indicative of what they're going to do Take money under the table from supporters?
  16. With K-Rod, I'm guessing the door is closed on Bell now. But I would guess we were more than kicking the tires. I'm guessing DM felt he had a better deal with K-Rod.
  17. Thanks. I guess I knew that, but when I started perusing the roster, their names jumped out at me....
  18. Khris Davis and Fiers Ouch, I hope not. They are two of my favorite players in the system. Fiers reminds me a Dave Bush. Not a high end pitcher, but a serviceable 4-5 SP for a few years. And I think he will transition to the BP well, also when his SP days are done. And I think its almost a lock he will have some success at the MLB level. He is probably a good guess for the PTBNL, but he is one of my favs. Davis has a chance to be a special player. Braun is probably a good comparison for his ceiling. Big stick, poor defense. (NOTE to Brewers: Please promote him!) I'm going to predict in a different manner: 1st Group: Ross, Heckathorn, Nelson, Fiers (I'd rather not, but...), Arnett (is there any chance???) 2nd Group: Morris, Gindl, Komatsu, Schafer, Farris Hopefully not on the list: Kh Davis, Peralta, Scarpetta, Thornburg (known), Green, and Maldonado I really doubt any of Halton, Hawn, Wilson, Katin, would really interest the Mets.
  19. All for a guy who was on the team less than 3 months? Wow. The first post season appearance in 30+ years will do that...
  20. I don't see them offering arby in this case, so Type A/Type B won't matter. There's a chance, no matter how small, that he accepts the arby offer, and there's no way Melvin and co. want to be on the hook for a 10 mil + salary for K-Rod next year. Why not? 1) Unless they sign Prince (not holding my breath), they have money available. Although that new little league stadium being built in his name may sway his decision... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif 2) If they don't really want him at that $ level, trade him. Once the $17M vesting option is gone, he becomes a more attractive trade option. 3) Really think Boras is going to accept a 1 year deal that an arbitrator will decide? Especially if #2 might happen? He might as well allow his son sign a 20 year deal with the Brewers for minimum salaries and no signing bonus... This is obviously a move for the present (like Linebrink), but they Brewers can't afford to just "throw away" chances to improve their farm system.
  21. For whatever reason, he's pretty easy to overlook. Uh, he is 5'9". (Ba-dum-bump - ching!)
  22. I take it that you missed the 'Rick Manning era'. Unfortunately, Paul Molitor didn't... >http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif (Although, In fairness to Manning, there was little he could do to NOT win the game and NOT make the last out so Molitor would get one more shot)
  23. Kind of a mini version of draft-and-follow?
  24. And That posted this in the Draft Forum, but since he was signed, I'll dup it here: Baseball America on Chad Thompson, 27th round: Orange Coast CC righthander Chad Thompson was a Top 200 prospect and a 17th-round pick out of high school in 2009. He missed all of last season while recovering from Tommy John surgery, and his velocity has been up and down this spring. Early in games, Thompson has flashed 90-93 mph heat and even topped out at 95, though even then he tended to get hit around. Other times he pitches at 84-87 or 87-90 mph. He clearly has arm strength and a huge 6-foot-8, 210-pound frame, but his delivery and arm action aren't pretty and he struggles with his control and command. He also throws a slow curveball and a slider that both rate as well below-average. Sounds like the Brewers took a flyer on him recovering from TJ surgery well. High risk, high reward type. And fits with this year's draft theme of NBA sized pitchers.
