  1. ...would have been more effective and would also show that tons of bad players get tons of innings, often masked by their park or defense behind them. Again... agreed. Its like a grenade vs. a sniper rifle: No comparison on accuracy. But sometimes the grenade is all that is needed to tell a bad pitcher from the worst.
  2. Not sure how I missed it back when, but I finally got around to reading the original article. This struck me as pretty funny from LaRussa: “We win the right way and we lose the right way. We’ve received a lot of compliments over the years that when we lose we tip our caps and when we win we keep our mouths shut. That’s my comment.”But he added more: “I don’t think... So you keep your mouth shut, but then go on talking about it? (And, yes, I stopped the quote at that point intentionally)
  3. The fact remains, wins is a horrible, horrible way to evaluate a pitcher. Overall, most everyone would agree with you. But the way its being used (i.e. Garland vs. "one of the worst SP in baseball") its enough. Call it a "sniff test". Its enough to tell you its not true; an indicator that you should look further. He might be the worst SP to accumulate 131 wins, but the true worst SPs in baseball never get enough starts (no matter how much offensive support) to get there.
  4. why not Phil Garner? I always thought he did a very good job for the Brewers (considering the talent, especially). Lets bring back ScrapIron from the ScrapHeap!
  5. I'm having a tough time between Jeffress and Rogers. Easy enough. Your post. Just change it to "pick 4." Or better yet, just rank them and don't pick any to "keep". But if someone put a gun to my head... Must have been a Cubs fan...
  6. If you only got to keep 3 Brewers Rookies from this year, who would they be? Good thing we don't have to just pick 3. We get to keep them all. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  7. The only thing that concerns me (and probably no one else, except maybe my fellow moderators) about having two Melvins in high-profile positions in the Brewers' organization is the resulting need for posters here to specify which Melvin they're talking about. Think of the extra keystrokes! The solution to that is simple. Take a page out of the LambeauLeap forum, where we use TT for Ted Thompson and MM for Mike McCarthy. The downside would be if Bob Melvin didn't turn out to be a good coach, there would be a lot of jokes made out of calling him "BM".
  8. He really needs to rebound in 2010, as Bogut might not 100% healthy to begin the season. I wonder if Bogut can pitch?
  9. Should Jack Clark have his number retired by the Brewers? At least be added to the Walk of Fame. Bare minimum would be a plaque commemorating his statements on the door of every bathroom in the stadium! -note: I'm not sure which parts of that should be blue...
  10. So, will the Cardinals be signing Trevor Hoffman next year? Apparently he's the classiest guy in professional sports! Nope, no poopy pants! I really like that guy. I'd like to see him win a small scratch off lottery ticket prize..like $10 or $15. LOL, I think I have a new signature! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  11. Maybe we should ask Troy Tulowitzki which he prefers... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  12. Cole, who was selected in the first round of the 2008 draft by the Yankees but decided to honor his commitment to UCLA.... An unsigned first-round pick out of high school in the 2009 draft... (Matt Purke) Interesting that two of the dandydozen (not to mention two of the top rated) were former unsigned 1st round picks... I hate that Covey "got away", but it happens. But at least it rarely happens to the Brewers.
  13. I just untucked my shirt in honor of our Link Report reporters! I hope that wasn't too unclassy (people are looking at me at work, though)...
  14. I guess calling it a "League" threw me a bit... I figured that meant they were competing against other teams.
  15. Cody Hawn may have just played his last game in a Helena Brewers uniform. Helena’s designated hitter Thursday made a strong argument for a promotion... I nominate this for the "Understatement of the Year" award. Congrats to our rookie level teams! Bring that attitude on up!
  16. Is this the league that replaced the Hawaiian League? Kind of a sub-AFL type thing?
  17. Well, his success so far this year at Helena proves the 5'11", 185lb isn't intimidated by the pitchers selected before and after him in the draft. But its got to be a funny sight with him standing between 6'6", 245lb Jimmie Nelson and 6'6", 220lb Matt Miller. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  18. Yeah, it would suck if he was the "lesser" announcer and got dominated (talk-time wise) by someone who is trying to be as funny. It would have to be with someone like Povus or Powell that act as the straight man and just go along for the ride...
  19. get the kids fed, bathed and put down to bed, exercise and did some laundry No way am I letting my wife read this forum from now on. I'll just tell her that people write horrible things that she doesn't need to read. :P
  20. How great would it be to have Bob Uecker on the TV-cast once in a while (like as a fill-in for BA)? Something tells me it wouldn't be as good as "Major League", but part of me wonders if it would be better (i.e. unscripted)...
  21. If you can't be with the one you love, love the one you're with... The only real negative about Nashville is the stadium, right? So if they can work together to get a new stadium, it would be nice to develop a long term relationship there. Cease the hopping around...
  22. Next year should be really interesting for him. With the limited pitch counts, long breaks, etc... its hard to know if the Brewers sense a problem or just taking it easy after a heavy use/abuse college year (158 pitches in a game?). Think they will skip him over Wisconsin to Brevard? Probably not...
  23. ...Helena hitting coach Ned Yost.... I still do double takes when I read this. Keep it up Helena! One more to go!
  24. So is speeding, yet everyone does it. If the guy wants to take bong rips in the comfort of his own home, and takes care of his business on the field who are we to complain. Drug use doesn't always end in the comfort of his own home. Ask Johnny Jolly. My point was there is a sentiment that "good, he's on the 40-man, so he is safe". Just pointing out that just because he won't be drug tested in the MLB, doesn't mean there aren't other consequences. Lets just leave it at that.
  25. There really isn't that much of a Brewers/Twins "rivalry" to celebrate. I would disagree with that. Maybe its because I live on the west side of the state, but Brewers/Twins is a bigger natural rivalry to me than Brewers/Cardinals (beyond fighting for the division and maybe a twinge of 1992 left...). Man, I hated the Twins back when we were in the AL. But I suppose 1987 still a sticking point with me, since the Brewers had a better record and didn't make the playoffs, while the Twins won the WS. Not that I'm one to carry a grudge... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif But I would agree that once a year is enough until the WS. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
