  1. But part of a prospect is the likely-hood of reaching MLB, right? Otherwise, Brent Brewer should still be on the list (as he is still highly talented)... I didn't name those people because they are HOT, but because they are improving and moving in the right direction (not even this year, but last year included). And Khris D especially, since they are the same age and at the same level. Arnett has talent and I'm not ready to give up on him, but right now, his chances of figuring it out and making the MLB are dropping dramatically. And I thought there were reports of him sitting in the high 80s with his FB, not low to mid 90s... He can't live off his draft scouting reports forever, right?
  2. Yeah, but if you were in the top 3, you would have missed out on more of the game! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  3. I think Scooter is in an OK location based on who is ahead of him. But Arnett just behind Scooter and ahead of Bucci, Lasker, Butler and Davis is a head scratcher to me... He is a 22yo college pitcher that hasn't figured out A-ball yet. Not even close. Sure, he still has potential, but if you compare Arnett at 22 and Kh Davis at 22 both in A-ball. One deserving a promotion and the other deserving a demotion (well, he had it for a while)... Arnett should be around 25 at best. Estrada also puzzles me as to why he is on the P50. I wouldn't be shocked if the Brewers cut him as soon as he is "healthy"
  4. Those tablescan be nasty. This sounds a bit like getting hurt with salad tongs...
  5. I was wondering what his arby numbers might look like for next year. Brewers might be better off letting him go for picks (if his numbers keep up, he might be a type A). But I don't know if they would chance him accepting arby...
  6. One thing to remember when talking about theoretical trades in a forum is that the real trade or subsequent trade may already "fix" the logjam. Maybe McGehee goes with Fielder in the trade. So its probably not worth racking our brains to fix a theoretical problem until after the real trade is made...
  7. Interesting linktalking about SP trades that might happen. I would think if someone has their main SP, but need some improvement at the end of the rotation, they would make a trade for Bush. I bet we could get a similar return to the Gabe Gross deal (Josh Butler). Basically, some other teams' Evan Fredrickson or slightly better. Wow. WAY undervaluing a MLB average SP like Bush. Gross was a backup OF. I would expect a return of someone like Butler is now (AA/AAA SP looking like a MLB 4/5 type) as opposed to Bulter then (A-ball looking like a failed draft pick). But as others have said Bush in a package deal is more likely...
  8. The Brewers don't need a 5th outfielder. Hart and Braun play every day and Gomez/Diego are in a CF platoon. Why bring Cain up to rot on the bench? We don't need a 3 man platoon in CF. Even with all the griping about how Gamel was handled (no I don't totally agree with it and don't want to open that all up again), we learned something about Gamel, and he learned something about playing in the MLB. Hopefully, Cain gets a legitimate shot, but at worst, he will start getting acclimated to the bigs.
  9. I was going to post something like this earlier today. But as I looked at his season numbers, I was surprised at how his WHIP, BB/9 and K/9 are similar to last year, when he was "horrible". WHIP H/9 HR/9 BB/9 SO/9 SO/BB 2004 1.229 8.8 1.0 2.3 5.9 2.56 2005 1.254 9.4 1.3 1.9 5.0 2.59 2006 1.138 8.6 1.1 1.6 7.1 4.37 2007 1.401 10.5 1.3 2.1 6.5 3.05 2008 1.141 7.9 1.4 2.3 5.3 2.27 2009 1.469 10.3 1.5 2.9 7.0 2.41 2010 1.495 9.7 1.2 3.7 5.0 1.36 His HRs are down, but otherwise, is worse than last year. While I didn't expect Suppan-esque numbers are many were predicting, he seems to be succeeding despite the peripherals. Granted, when it all comes down to it, allowing runs the the only stat that really matters in baseball... (edit: chart prettification http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif --1992)
  10. Fielder: As you mentioned, Fielder is pretty much gone. So trading him now or in the off-season is pretty much the only option (not many really want to chance the draft pick route again...) Hart: Most people don't expect Hart to continue this pace. IMO, he is a .800-850 OPS type player. But there is a chance he goes back to the .750 OPS player also...So trading him now would be selling high. Plus, after this off-season, I really doubt he signs a long term deal with the Brewers. Bridges might not have been burned, but if not there was plenty of scorched earth... So if neither player looks to be a Brewer past 2011, what is the point in hanging on to them? Plus risking the chance that next year, Hart reverts back to an untradeable .750 OPS player making $8M... I would bet that Cain will be our starting CF next year. And Escobar will improve also. If Gamel is "irreparably damaged" by playing sporadically for 2 months last year, then we should thank Macha for exposing his fragility now... But I don't think that is the case.
  11. Different situation, but in Dec 2003, the Brewers traded Sexton to AZ. They got a lot of middling MLB talent back instead of MiLB talent, but... Record Attendance 2003 67-94 1,700,354 - with Sexton NOTE: Only played 161 games that year 2004 68-94 2,062,382 - with Counsell, Overbay, Capuano, etc... One could argue that Mark A drew some fans also (2004 being his first year of ownership), but trading the star player didn't hurt attendance that year.
  12. His favorite MLB team is the Red Sox and he wants to be Derek Jeter for a day? I sense some serious conflicts in this young man! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  13. Also, it could get really ugly really quickly if baseball players who support the law decide to speak up. One reason I don't like Yo publicly making this statement is the effect it could have on the clubhouse. What if some members of the team stand on the other side of the issue? Will this cause strife? I doubt Yo is going to cause trouble, but why even bring it up? I want them to shut up either way. I don't care if I agree with them or not. 1) As an American, they are entitled to free speech. Its not like he is announcing it before each pitch or anything like that. He was asked by a reporter and he answered. 2) I think this shows how important this is to Yo, to make a statement about boycott. It makes news and it draws attention to something that is important to him. 3) Doesn't matter if its this issue or not, there are plenty of items political, racial, religious, etc... that can cause problems in the clubhouse. This is probably a minor one. You have to tip your hat to a guy that is willing to take a stand for something, whether you agree with the cause or not. Better than people following the masses.
  14. That's because ESPN doesn't know who the Rangers were. They had to do an internet search to find out who the Mariners were... but only because it sounded like they might have some dealing with the Yanks...
  15. Scarpetta has one option left for next year, right? I would imagine that if he keeps this up for July (sub 4.00 ERA that is) he will get a taste of AA this year. Then next year at AA/AAA and finally MLB (assuming all goes well). Maybe not ready, but out of necessity...
  16. At this point, it couldn't hurt...
  17. I'm pretty sure Burnie Brewer has seen the most home losses... but all time its probably Bob Uecker. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  18. Especially in a small market, the Brewers need to win to continue interest. Because interest=revenue and more revenue means more ability to spend money to make the team better. Which means more interest and more money (to a limit at least). Losing now and ending badly just kills interest for next year. Which would decrease revenues and probably limit the amount of money Mark will allow the club to spend, thus hand-cuffing the team for at least the short term. If the Brewers were able to finish the rest of the season above 500 (especially after a few trades to make the team "new"), that would give some hope that they would be good again next year and help the draw next year. Unless they are going to undergo a complete rebuild, losing the rest of the season does more harm than good. It's not that he get's too much credit, it's that Jack Z get's none of the blame for our complete and total lack of home grown starting pitchers.... while Melvin seems to get all the blame. Yeah, that too.
  19. I don't want to turn this into a Melvin vs. JZ thread (as there are others), but I just don't get where you can separate these two so much:1) I'm sure as GM, Melvin has some influence on the draft. I doubt he is completely hands off Not sure why people assume its all Jack Z's call. 2) Jack Z couldn't draft pitching. Our current team 100% reflects how our drafts have gone: found hitters with poor defense and can't draft pitching. 3) If its fair to give Jack Z all the credit for the draft and Melvin none of it, how much credit should be given to the regional scouts and not to Jack? Maybe Bruce Seid was the mastermind all along... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif I'm not trying to say Melvin was the drafting mastermind and Jack Z wasn't. I'm just trying to say that the draft is a group effort for which Z might get too much credit.
  20. Someone remind me why the Giants need offense??? Or is it just our pitching.... Not sure why people think we can throw in our undesirables in a trade to get a better return. Hoffman can't get anyone out. Adding him to a trade is actually decreases the value of our offering. Villaneuva has some value, but pretty limited. Hart+Hoffman+CV < Hart alone unless we pick up all of Hoffman's salary.
  21. If they make some good trades, interest will pick up as people want to see the new guys. But I doubt it pull it up to 3 million.
  22. ...the Huntsville Times is reporting that 2009 Organizational Player of the Year CF Logan Schafer, currently with Brevard County, fractured a bone in his foot and will be out for the season. Of course, we'll have to await news on Caleb Gindl, who left last night's game after being injured while in right field. Shame on you twobrew!
  23. It probably a little too early for a trade, but that might help the situation. I would imagine Smith would be the first option, even if it meant a DFA situation. Optioning Braddock is probably the second move. I can't imagine they move Axford right now, as he is our closer.
  24. Listened to Nieves no-no (there was only one of those...) Saw a A-ball Peoria Cubs pitcher break his leg (femur) on a line drive up the middle while his leg was still in the air on his follow through. Was sitting first row behind the plate, so it was the perfect view. Same Peoria game, a foul ball clocked a lady on top of the head as she was walking up to the concession stand. Two ambulance rides from that game. Saw Robin Yount's 2998th hit (why is everyone so obsessed with 3000???)
  25. Of course, I haven't been that successful with my efforts. No, no, you have to know how to sell it.... Its: "Imagine how bad they would have been without all the effort and concentration I put into it!"
