  1. The one thing if it were a signing of Castellanos, the Brewers could do a smaller amount first year, then bump it up the final three years to make up for that (assuming a four year deal). It would line up with Cain going off his deal, and JBJ option off after 2nd year of the deal. Assuming we have a min.wage CF like Mitchell running around. Then go in and vote early and often for the DH at owner meetings.
  2. I think he makes a lot of sense, especially if the Crew also re-signs Escobar. . You only need so many jack of all trades on the roster. They definitely wouldn't spend money on both. At some point, you need to get a premium bat. I don't think Taylor or Escobar are a premium bat.
  3. You do realize that Manny Pina is 34 years old, correct? I went back assuming it would have to be Pinamadness that listed that. Nope. But next best guess.
  4. I would hesitate to trade Ashby and Small (but if the right deal is on the board for Olson...). But would be willing to part with other prospects to get Olson. We have a 2-3 year window, and a clear need for hitting and a position to play him. I don't think that Turang and Mitchell are too close to MLB ready for a rebuild scenario. Better for them to have their growing pains on losing teams. Plus, I'm sure that the A's front office is not thinking it will be a long turn around, probably two years and ready to fight for the playoffs in year 3. I would do JosephC deal in a heartbeat - "Fair deal would be something like Sal Frelick, Brice Turang and one of Freddy Zamora/Zavier Warren/Korry Howell."
  5. I haven't given up hope that he can get to hitting .230-.240 and provide GG defense when playing. Right now I am assuming the platoon with Taylor in RF (maybe Taylor gets some starts against righties) until one or the other shows me they earned more and/or less time. Plus you know Cain is going to miss lots of time, and him playing CF with a bad bat is at least more forgivable.
  6. I'm not saying he only plays 1B. But, that he needs the practice there versus at 3B. If we sign Escobar he will get time at 1B (unless we also sign a 1B).
  7. Put me down as probable move on as we focus on other targets. But if the price is right and other options are few, I could see him coming back. If so, I assume they would give him all of spring to focus on 1B, he could use some practice there.
  8. He is definitely worthy of a MLB roster spot, if you are asking that. But, obviously in FA - if the price is right.
  9. Image isn't working. I'd very much like to know what it is. 99.9% guarantee it isn't matt arnold.
  10. There is a specific person who posts on here who would of called that dumpster diving as they are not a big named player. Two of the 4 OF's that the Braves acquired the Brewers tried acquiring during the off season also. Wrong, that's not at all dumpster diving, in my book. You know what it is?? It's being aggressive. Look what happened because the Braves decided to get aggressive. They are still playing. John Curtiss and Daniel Norris, is NOT being aggressive. They were nothing moves, other than to add some depth to the bullpen. Very Meh moves. How'd they work out??
  11. I don't think it would cost near that much. Right now those four are probably four of the top 5 prospects in the Brewers' system. I think you are looking at a deal that would be similar to what the Brewers traded for Yelich. Brinson was the biggest prize of that deal going back to the Marlins. In this case, he was probably a little higher in value to Mitchell, but they are pretty close. Harrison was considered to be further away, albeit a strong prospect. Diaz was coming off a poor season. Yamamoto was a decent pitching prospect, but not anything close to Ashby. I think a deal for Reynolds probably looks much more like: CF Garrett Mitchell SS Freddy Zamora CF Joe Gray Jr. P Abner Uribe I see guys like Mitchell and Turang as potentially tradeable. Maybe Ashby, Weimer and Perez are movable in the right deal. There's just no way they package all those guys together in one deal, though. There's simply too much helium among the four of them. If we are trading for Reynolds, that seems mighty logical to dump JBJ to them too boot. They can afford to see if he can bounceback and be traded at the deadline, we can send them half his cash. Up the prospects a bit (replace Joe Gray? - not a good AFL), JBJ and cash. Reynolds is cost-controlled for four seasons per Spotrac. So we can afford to include two OFs in the trade imo. We are looking at a three year window, this fits squarely in that window.
  12. I assume the Rays would want either MLB starters (bench filled with their youth I assume) or minor leaguers that will not need to be protected on the 40 man, so guys like Feliciano may not have as much value, unless they slot him as backup catcher.
  13. Looks like the Appleton Baseball Club, Inc got $559,000 in federal PPP "loan" (which really meant you usually didn't have to pay back).
  14. Seems quite a bit of people consider the entire infield a lock, which includes Tellez. I have definitely seen more than one person call him the 1B going into next year. Well if money is tight, it might be easier to start the season with him. If he produces, you have a starter at min. wage. If not, that position is one of the easier ones to find in a midseason trade. I'd much rather do that then pay Escobar market rate. I wouldn't mind Yelich getting spring training reps at 1B. Edit: I guess I was assuming Tellez was pre-arby. If he is going to cost $1.9M, I am fine with finding a better player in the offseason, than hoping Tellez is good enough.
  15. If you go by baseballtradevalues.com, Woodruff or Peralta would be much more value than Ramirez. They are $110-113M of value and Ramirez is $73M. I would trade Woodruff for Ramirez, if we get the right sweetener(s) to boot and get to include Cain in the trade. Then start stretching out Urias on the rack. Need a taller target at 1B.
  16. I know someone that had an agreement to house a Wisconsin Rapids Rafter baseball player many summers. I don't see any reason why the lower minors aren't the same and have people ready to house players if need be.
  17. https://theathletic.com/2895677/2021/10/18/arizona-fall-league-experiments-gone-awry-plus-notes-on-spencer-torkelson-brett-baty-and-more-keith-law/?source=dailyemail&campaign=601983 • We had our first AFL player ever (I think) from the People’s Republic of China, Lun Zhao. The Brewers pitcher was also one of the youngest players in the league, just barely 20 years old, and was 85-88 with what looked like a two-seamer and a very impressive 74-76 mph curveball with tight rotation and 12/6 break. He’s just back from 2020 Tommy John surgery, throwing nine innings this summer, and still young and slender enough that you could project a little more velocity. The fastball may be light, but the curveball might carry him up to the high minors.
  18. https://www.mlb.com/brewers/news/sleeper-prospects-in-arizona-fall-league-2021?t=mlb-pipeline-coverage 30 AFL sleeper prospects -- 1 for each org. Brewers: Abner Uribe, RHP (No. 26) Want to see some elite velocity? Pay attention to the Statcast data whenever Uribe pitches at home in Salt River this fall. The 21-year-old right-hander can sit -- not top out at, sit -- 100-101 and touch even higher when he really rears back. He might be tempted to do so in Arizona, given the size of the stage. As with many hard-throwers, the development of control and a second pitch will be keys to Uribe’s present and future. He struck out 52 in 33 2/3 innings at Low-A Carolina this summer but walked 25 in the same span. A jump this high will be a tough, but promising challenge for the Dominican Republic native.
  19. I think though, when in the playoffs, when you are going against the best, it seems good pitching beats good batting. I think we need to target at least one better-than-good batter if we are going to upgrade the offense. Most of our guys are league average-ish, which means they are competent. But shut down in playoffs.
  20. Why not? They have an option year on every person they sign to a deal.
  21. I am willing to trade anyone. But to trade a starter/Hader, we need to get back a proven hitter with years of cheap(er) control. And it is hard to be proven and have years of control (see Hiura). And that player has to play a position we could maximize the upgrade at. So we aren't going to want to replace Wong or Adames. With that many qualifications, it will be hard to find a trading partner.
  22. Even if he comes back from injury fine, how can you trust him going forward? Nope, can't trade Hader this offseason now. So the guy makes a stupid mistake and punches a wall ... and now cannot be trusted under any circumstance going forward? Wow, tough crowd. I'm not going to trust him to be the only known stopper in the bullpen going into next year. No. If he isn't smart enough to punch with his offhand... He will have to earn back trust.
  23. It all depends on how Williams recovers from the injury. The guy does things with the baseball that very few people are able to do. Will that change now that he needs surgery to fix broken bones in his pitching hand? That remains to be seen. Even if he comes back from injury fine, how can you trust him going forward? Nope, can't trade Hader this offseason now.
  24. If there was concerns about playing time on our side or needed an OF back for the Pirates, Taylor could have been in the deal. I went to spotrac to see if they had any overpaid veterans we would have swapped JBJ with as part of the deal. The Pirates only have one overpaid player, Gregory Polanco. So basically an OF for OF, so that wasn't as likely an option to unload JBJ to them. Polanco has since been released by Pitt. They don't have anybody else making any money other than Felipe Vazquez. And it looks like he is not getting paid as he is now playing for the Florida/Arizona/Missouri Penal League. That owner is making mucho dinero with that payroll.
  25. I don't think you can use Houser in the role of the 7th inning guy in a close game. Would rather go with a guy that has been coming out of the pen in that role all season. Now if Houser comes in during the 5/6th inning and is going well, then he gets the 7th inning. That would be the role I see for him.
