  1. I don't think anyone is thinking/advocating they trade him for nothing. But I do think they would trade him if they felt they got a fair return on him at this point. I don't know. It sure seems that the tone on the posts is that a lot of people want to trade just for the sake of trading, regardless of return. I would rather retain him and roll the dice we get back to the old Keston.
  2. Supposedly they are already doing this and nothing has come from it. Yet...
  3. [sarcasm]Would he have to run his fingers through Burnes' hair?[/sarcasm] I know why it is in blue, but realistically if they started checking gloves and hats, players would just put it somewhere else. Might have to have TSA come in and train the umpires on how to search a body. (half blue, as we don't really know if the TSA is that good either - maybe border agents?)
  4. I read somewhere that the Twins may not sell off this year even if they are out of it early enough, as the core is signed for 2022. If that is the case and the Twins don't need an OF, I don't see any way this trade is made with JBJ going back.
  5. Well, league average IS a real upgrade. And there’s no way that the Marlins would want one of those 4 bad players you listed for a decent player. Not sure if I would pull the trigger on this trade right now - and I don't know the Marlin's needs, but I think Tyrone Taylor (or someone similar) is in the ballpark. Cooper makes $1.8M this year and will make more in arby next year I assume. So they probably wouldn't mind trading to a min.wage guy that has 5-6 years of control. The problem is you have to wait until Miami is out of it. It's getting closer to make that call, but not there yet.
  6. How is it completely changing his routine if he pitches one inning, but it is the 8th inning because that is the opponents meat of the order with two mean lefty sticks due up? He would have plenty of time to warm up, as you would have the Brewers batting in between the inning. And someone else picks up the 9th inning.
  7. First of all, it wouldn't be gutting the system. In fact, I purposely am trying to keep Ashby and Small. Secondly, Adames isn't a FA until 2025, which does make Turang available for the right trade. Lastly, if the players you get back are multiyear players, what more do you want? This wouldn't be trading for a two month rental. We'd have Mancini for a year and half and a prime position to extend him, while we know we are in the playoff hunt. Fry isn't a free agent until 2025. For some it seems they would rather have a trophy on your shelf that we had the 8th best minor league prospects in 2021 - rather than a playoff appearance.
  8. If I am going to do a trade, might as well try to get a bullpen guy while at it. I would be willing to move Turang, Ray, Lutz for Mancini, Fry. We'd be a little short on the trade simulator, but a ballpark to start in.
  9. I think their pitching is very mediocre. I also dont think they win the NL West. The Dodgers are just too stacked. I can see the Padres going hog wild adding pitching at the trading deadline.
  10. I doubt he'll opt out. My only thought is that if he knows he'll be the 5th OF, he'll know that while he's getting $11M to be that 5th OF, he'll never sign another big deal (he'll be 32 next year). If he still believes in himself, he'd probably rather be a starter than a bench player. If he thinks he can find a starting job somewhere, next offseason would probably be his last chance to sign a multi-year deal. It will be up to him and his agent to decide on his option, and there is a good chance that he will pick up the option and be a Brewer next year. I just think that he'd be more likely to opt out if Taylor gets ahead of him on the depth chart and he knows that he will not get much playing time than he would if he goes into the year as a starter or even a platoon player. I can't think of an instance where a player had a terrible season (lets assume this is the situation at end of season), and opted out of substantially more guaranteed money to go somewhere to potentially start (I can't see any team giving him the job if he has a bad season).
  11. I would say this is the way we improve the pen before the trading deadline. I can see them going to any Milner, Ashby, Small, Kirby, Derby for help. All except Derby are lefties. We aren't going to put them in the pressure cooker their first times out. Don't know anything about another lefty, Blaine Hardy. He would seem like a guy that could be brought up at any time also, MLB experience.
  12. Unfortunately with professional athletes who are no longer “kids” and have families, most will probably just take their guaranteed money and go home. Traveling by bus from town to town and eating the breakfast at the Hampton Inn when they wake up in the morning isn’t typically for the veteran player with a half decade of mlb service time I can see some team picking him up at prorated minimum wage that is desperate for a left handed, defensive 1B/3B bench player.
  13. By putting this in, you take away the jinx. If you are prepared to jinx yourself, got to eat the crow, no going halfway.
  14. I sure hope the Pirates are playing as badly when they play us. At a minimum the 2B and the RF were sleeping when the 1B had a huge brainlock.
  15. I hope that is the case. But, if the Brewers are out of it by the trading deadline, why would he not be moved this July 31 - for the right deal? I would like to assume we are still in it, but if a salad tong or vicious piece of luggage were to happen to Woody/Burnes/Peralta.... Edit- I see Hader isn't a FA until 2024. I thought it was one year earlier. No reason to trade him this year, even if we are out of it, unless the trade was too much to pass up.
  16. Since trading away two bullpen pieces, I would have thought we would have shot for minor league deal for Anthony Swarzak to take a look.
  17. The hard part about trading one of them is finding a hole on the roster that will necessitate the move. In other words, does trading one of them net you something better in the OF than Cain, JBJ or Garcia? Or something better than Shaw at 3B? You're not trading them to improve LF (Yelich), 1B (Hiura), C (Narvaez), SS (Adames) or 2B (Wong/Urias)? Assuming, you're moving one of them to improve 3B, what are they actually worth? More importantly, who moves the needle from Shaw that would make them worth dealing? I have a feeling we'd be shocked to find out their value was only a Kyle Seager, Eduardo Escobar, or Brian Anderson. More importantly, I think we would be mad to find out that one of them were dealt for one of those guys. I still think Josh Donaldson is the most likely target. 3 years and ~$52.5m after this year would be tough to stomach but I think the Brewers will get something done there if the Twins do in fact sell. Just say NO to Donaldson! $21.75M per year for the next two years for a guy who is going to be 36-37 and is often injured is nuts. Then an $8-12M buyout to boot. No-no-no. Yeah, I would have to think that his contract has negative value, especially for an NL team. If/when he gets the calf/shoulder issue going, you can't play him at DH. But are the Twins willing to kick in that much cash to get a prospects back to save face on a trade? Probably not going to happen.
  18. I don't know anything about Candelario and the Tigers situation, but it sounds like the Rays actually have two SS ready in the minors. So they could move from a position of surplus, and it would actually allow them to evaluate what they have at ML level. Do the Tigers have surplus after Candelario they want to see?
  19. Wasn't it more like the offense carried the defense on Sunday?. At least the way it sounded like on the radio before the grand salami.
  20. https://theathletic.com/2580901/2021/05/13/2021-mlb-draft-big-board-version-1-0-keith-law-ranks-the-top-100-draft-prospects-with-a-new-name-at-no-1/ Keith Law picks at those picks (I know) 15. Will Taylor, OF, Dutch Fork HS (Irmo, SC) Taylor is committed to Clemson for football and baseball, a star high school quarterback who’d move to a wide or slot receiver role if he got to campus … but he’s probably never going to get there, as he’s flying up MLB Draft boards because of his athleticism, plus speed, and feel to hit. He’s a true centerfielder who’s put on some muscle since the fall and might end up with average power. 33. Joe Mack, C, Williamsville (NY) East HS As I write this, Mack’s season still hasn’t begun — his first game is May 14, and his last June 17 — so this is still based on what scouts saw from him in 2020, where he showed a short swing geared for contact and a plus arm, with a body that looks well-suited to the rigors of the position. 51. Tyler Whitaker, OF, Bishop Gorman, Las Vegas, NV Whitaker has attracted national scouts and directors the last few weeks for his huge power potential and plus arm that give visions of a 30-homer bat in an outfield corner, but there’s some leak in his approach and too much swing and miss. He reminds me a bit of Nolan Gorman at the same age, but right-handed. 86. Carter Jensen, C, Park Hill HS, Kansas City, Mo. Jensen is a bat-first catcher with the chance for plus hit/plus power, which would make him a first-rounder if he were clearly going to stay behind the plate. He has arm strength but his technique and setup behind the plate both need work, and he’ll be a project for someone’s catching instructor once he signs.
  21. Trent Grisham's .OPS has been in steady decline since his high water mark of 1.025 on April 22 after starting the year on a tremendous hot streak. Perhaps we should hold off at least for a little while longer before anointing him a "star outfielder". The jury is still out on him. Jury is still out on Lauer as well. I don't think it's prudent at this point to call him "almost certainly" anything yet. He has a 117 career OPS+ in 651 plate appearances with high end defense at a premium defensive position. His WAR for a full projected season would have been 6.7 last year and would be at 6.3 so far this year. If he was a Milwaukee Brewer we would most definitely be throwing around the word "star" when discussing him. I'm pretty hesitant about assuming too much from a guy that wasn't great in the minors. But, when you hear about the switching his hands back on the bat the way he did before the Brewers tinkered with his swing, and the success he has seen since then.... Then I think this is probably legit.
  22. I'm going to Price-is-Right-you and say May 20. If it is Price is Right rules you didn't leave much room to win. You would have May 20 and nothing else, if before you go over. You got me there. I bid $1 or May 11.
  23. I'm going to Price-is-Right-you and say May 20.
  24. Even if this was a 90 loss team, you don't trade them this year. 2022 midseason would be the earliest.
