  1. I think the dilemma with calling him up has more to do with who gets cut, than Hiura's super 2 status. Shaw can be sent down, and right now he would be the obvious choice. But how will he take the demotion after what he has done for the club the last two years? With Moustakas on a 1 year contract, does Stearns risk alienating a guy the Crew will desperately need in the near future? Perez is too valuable to depart. Gamel too with all of Braun's never ending injuries. Pina is the backup catcher. Without a closer and any defined roles in the pen, CC likes having the security of 13 pitchers. That leaves Thames and Aguilar. Neither one can be sent down w/o losing them to another team. It's a tough choice for Stearns. Ding Ding Winner or Ditto
  2. Albers on the roster is pretty strong evidence of a bad bullpen. Only 1/4 blue.
  3. I think part of why Arcia went was because he wasn't happy that whoever was on 2nd (Aguilar?), wasn't sent home on his hit just before that. They showed him standing there shaking his head. Not sure, as they didn't give a good replay, but probably a good decision by the Windmill on not sending that runner on Arcia's hit.
  4. So who will the Nationals be willing to trade at the deadline? Would they trade Sherzer with a 2years 2months left on his megadeal? I assume they would, but don't know if politics would override baseball sense. I don't suppose they would trade Bearclaw unless they got multiple arms and legs back, with 3+ years of control.
  5. I'm not watching this game. But general question. If they have the minor league director, or whatever brass in for a half inning and it goes quickly, why do they not have them stay for another half inning? There can't be that tight a schedule on these guys. I don't get that at all. Especially if the game isn't that tight.
  6. 6-0 lead should help. With his lively fastball he shouldn't have to be too picky. Challenge them early in the count and see if they can hit it. Yeah, but, Woodruff's bat has come back to earth. Probably too much focusing on pitching. He needs to get his priorities figured out.
  7. So what is the deal with Jay Jackson? Will a team scoop him up? Will he still end up with the AAA team and an option again later in the season?

  9. My biggest complaint was he was so tentative coming up on balls that they would drop in front of him where others may have gotten to them. Last year I thought he looked much improved in April/May on this particular issue, but the bat sent him down.
  10. As terrible as they've been, they still rank 5th in the NL in wins. Counting stat. The Brewers have played more games then anyone else other than the Dodgers. Win% they are 7th in the league (and out of the playoffs). Of course that will benefit them later. They have played four more games than the Cubs so far this year and will get a day off here and there more than them.
  11. Pitching has started to turn the corner a little, but it still needs to get better sooner than later for there to be any October to pitch in. Just looks tough for a playoff spot. I don't have a lot of faith in Miami and San Fran keeping their division from padding their win totals.
  12. Who is Smith? You mean Wilson? If so, I could see Wilson ending up in San Antonio. Is another team going to give him a better spot to get to the majors? He may be back. Pretty sure that is a Harry Doyle quote from Major League Smith isn't part of the quote, so I was really wondering if I blanked on some player named Smith with all the ups and downs. But the Major League quote is close the book on Keltner, thank god.

  14. Such a risk taker you are.
  15. The trade made this Seattle website list https://sodomojo.com/2019/04/22/mariners-five-best-trades-dipoto-era/2/
  16. I still don't see anything official. Still waiting on physical? Waiting until he would be pitching anyways - so have an extra day or two to figure out 40 man roster move? All the low hanging "60 day injury" fruit is picked, right?
  17. I would go six starters (I haven't kept up with the status of Peralta) one time through if need be to give Woodruff Saturday, plus another game to keep a starter role. He'll have had seven starts to earn more starts. There is just too much hemorrhaging runs at this point to not try something else. This also assuming Anderson throws good enough Friday to keep in the rotation. Since Burnes is down in AAA, I would move Woodruff to the pen. This wouldn't be the end of his chances as a starter for the Brewers. He would just have to earn it Suter style.
  18. Another small sample size, but look at how the pitchers have done with Manny Pina behind the plate versus Grandal.
  19. Time will tell, but I think the front office believes in our starting staff more than most here, and they believe moving forward, With Nelson’s imminent return, Anderson showing the stuff of 2017, and the probable improvement of a young gun or two, that they don’t need another depth starting pitcher. If he is fine with being in the bullpen (at least to begin with), I would sign him. He provides starter backup plan. You wouldn't lose a shuttle spot if you are cutting Albers.
  20. I was feeling pretty good ... but these numbers are discouraging. I was a big proponent of the idea that moving from Johnson to Hook wouldn't be much of a difference, but so far appearances are quite the opposite. Of course, maybe the Brewers just managed to catch lightning in a bottle last year, and things are evening out now. And thankfully its still early. Maybe if it was just the Brewers sucking, but the Reds also catching lightning in a bottle this year? I'm starting to think it is more than coincidence.
  21. Really? I don't think Joe Fan knows Hiura, and more importantly isn't going to go to a game just because he was brought up. If after a couple of series he is on fire, then Joe Fan might say lets go see a game. The easiest way to help attendance is to help win games. Which he may if Aguilar digs a deep enough hole. But that is a ways down the line still.
  22. This is a revived thread. Unless you deleted posts, I don't see anything bad on the new April posts.
  23. Is the current Chris Hook different than the Chris Hook that worked with these guys for years in the minors, where they saw large degrees of success? Hook isn't the reason Burnes and Peralta are missing their spots. I don't know, but Derek Johnson sure seems like he is doing well in Cincy - and they never have good pitching.
  24. Yeah, it seems he is guaranteed a big role with this starting staff and the new baseball (okay that is just me) as the multi-inning guy when the game is still in doubt.
  25. He's proven effective in the past. If he strings together effective outings, he'll keep his role. If not, he'll quickly join the San Antonio shuttle. I can almost guarantee he'll be used in high-leverage spots relatively soon, though. Because all the team's relievers are used that way. They don't have traditional "mop up" guys. I was going to say, they don't have no choice. There is no hiding Wang in this bullpen. The starters don't go deep enough, every one is going to be abused. I assume that MLB said they wanted a liver ball, and they got it.
