  1. I hope the Brewers don't bank on Shaw returning to being an average player even. I wouldn't even offer him arby myself, but can see the argument, especially if Thames doesn't return for whatever reason.
  2. I think Aguilar was a pretty big disappointment. If only I wouldn't have picked Chacin by default..... I didn't want to predict which of the youngsters would shine, be okay, and suck - but you kind of knew that would be where it all landed on Woodruff, Peralta, and Burnes. I do have them winning the wildcard game at least. 2019 Brewers Predictions Win-Loss Record: 88-74 Playoffs (Yes, No): Wild Card Highest Playoff Level Achieved: Lose NLDS All-Star Game Representative(s): Yelich, Moose, Grandal, Hader Offensive Player of the Year: Christian Yelich Starting Pitcher of the Year: Everybody slightly above average over the season, so Chacin by default Relief Pitcher of the Year: Josh Hader Most Surprising Player: Moose is going to have one last blowout Most Disappointing Player: Jesus Aquilar
  3. Not that I have to worry about this, but if my son was in the Yankees farm system, there still is no way I would buy Yankee merchandise. Maybe if the son was on the major league roster and it was his specifically his jersey..... still I don't know if I could bring myself. I grew up with the evil empire and 1981, etc
  4. I find it crazy that no one seems to care about this yet using steroids makes you the biggest criminal of all-time. This player had the muscles in his arm artificially improved with a surgery in a provable way with his velocity, yet no problem. How is this not considered cheating? Artificially gain some unquantifiable advantage from whatever Braun took, suspended. I think you are taking this a little out of proportion. Because it is what everybody has decided on as to what is fair for MLB. Same as they decided vitamins were okay. Maybe some day they will have an everything goes baseball league with cyborgs. I kind of hope one day they allow an "any steriod is okay" version of the olympics so we can see what the human body can do under those conditions without hiding the use. Plus Suter's prior average would also include where he started or did long relief. If he knows he is only going 1-2 innings, you don't have to hold back any energy either. He could have probably had 88 average FB under short relief before.
  5. Now you guaranteed yourself a rain delay until tomorrow (even if it is one of those sunny Chicago rain postponements).
  6. His role as Vice President of Clubhouse Chemistry? He always had that role.
  7. If you are saying by off season budget, that we spend our current Grandal and Moustakas money on him, I suppose that would put us in the ballpark - but probably still not enough.
  8. The Brewers have a 3.47 bullpen ERA in September..... You can't, with a straight face tell me you have confidence in more than Hader though. Come on now I have confidence in Suter. Maybe you were just talking about whose available today though.
  9. Plus I think just having him in the clubhouse is a big positive. I'd hire him for team chemistry supervisor when his playing days are over.
  10. Yeah, you can't walk someone up five runs in the 9th. I would rather you groove a 80MPH fastball than do that.
  11. I don't see an injury history that is going to scare teams off. Assuming he does okay through the end of the season, someone will give him at least a 2 year-$10M deal. Chacin got a 2 year $15.5M deal.
  12. The new 26 man roster is perfect for the AL teams to pick up a reliever to pull a Wang.
  13. DFA Hernan for Saladino. Try to catch lightning in a bottle for Saladino. No go for Saladino. Hernan back. Moustakas injured. Utility/bench guys start when a starter is injured. At least Hernan gets to hit a lefty. Pretty understandable to me. I don't see the big crime that has been committed by the front office. Obviously, the Brewers will try to upgrade from Perez during offseason.
  14. Or they could get swept and be 4.5 games out of the WC2 with 3-4 teams ahead of them for that last WC spot.
  15. I'm not against trading Hiura, but you definitely have to get back a haul. Is there any team that has a young, hasn't-hit-arby, stud 3B? That would be where I try to match up first.
  16. Thanks for putting that together! I have a hard time believing we can't declare winners even though Broxton ISN'T A MET anymore, but accepting that you're making negative decisions already on deals that happened 26 days ago. I won't challenge seven of your losses. But, Soria had negative WAR but put in valuable innings during his time here and had a 2.93 FIP. He was extraordinarily unlucky, which reflected in his WAR. Drake wasn't good, but calling a cash trade for him a loss is a bit of a stretch when he put in 52 positive-war innings in 2017 for the team. Most of the in-season trades are impossible to grade at this point, so I'd exclude them all together. Pulling the record from your post to a more reasonable 14-7-5, I see 73% of trades that worked out acceptably well or better for the Brewers. So fair enough, I overshot the bar by 0.70 batting average points. But I'll take 73% as close enough to 4 of every 5 trades in my book. (And I'd bet on the Kratz/Petricka trades 'pushing' that to 75% ) I would think if a person was logically rating a baseball GM on his trades, that the trades would also be weighted - not just simply a win or a loss. In other words, Stearns can get 5 "Dubon for pitchers" trades wrong if he gets one Yelich trade right - and it is still going to be better for the team overall. So the bigger (better players) trade should count more than a spare parts for spare parts trade.
  17. Just to clarify, he was pitcher of the year in high A+ ball. I just mention that because in my mind there is a big difference between Wisconsin and Carolina. But next year in Biloxi will tell the tale. IIRC, Carolina is more of a pitchers league and the Southern League is more even hitters vs. pitchers.
  18. Grandal. Moustakas. Hiura. Woodruff. Albers. Yelich. Lyles. Hauser. Gio. Davies. Claudio. Guerra. You consider these players as overachieving? I would say that Woodruff has been somewhat overachieving, but I figured one of Burnes/Peralta/Woodruff would be at least this good. Lyles just got here and Houser too small a sample size. Grandal, Moose, Claudio, Hiura, Albers and Davies are about what I expected. Yelich is having his career year. Guerra has been bad.
  19. Highly doubt it on Burnes/ Peralta.......those decisions are likely made by Stearns CC, Arnold etc........ I would think it would be Stearns, CC and Hook deciding on starting vs. relieving for Burnes and Peralta or who is in the starting rotation. I would assume Hook would have talked to Karsay and the catchers beforehand, etc.
  20. If Suter comes up and the Brewers start winning, I think we will confirm that Suter is the chemistry master to make this work. Maybe we need to see what the Brewers record is when he is on the bench versus not in attendance.
  21. I'm sure you could have figured out how to make this bullpen good.
  22. A minor leaguer makes about $3300 for every game he is with the big lg. club unless his contract is more. They have to be on the 25 man roster to get the pay unless the club agrees to something else. Per diem went down from $99 to $33, but every team has a buffet table after the game, so that's basically for breakfast and lunch. Don't the players chip in for the training table? Or has that cost been taken over by the team? Or am I thinking of the dugout equipment manager type guy?
  23. Yeah, through the end of June I was thinking I still want to see what Wilkerson could do if he had a few more shots. He has had those shots. Don't need to see anymore. No need to keep a 40 man spot for him.
