  1. Not Soria-specific question. The CBA allows 72 hours to report. Has any player ever taken close to that long to report when it is a trade to a contending team? Didn't Swarzack take a long time last year? Someone traded to the Brewers in the last few seasons did I remember. No, he reported the day after finalized. Edit: Looks like traded on Tuesday (unclear when medicals were finalized) and in uniform on Thursday (clear). So maybe could have been a day quicker. Maybe.
  2. Cot's and other sources have it as a mutual option, unfortunately That makes less excited about the deal, but Medeiros had little to no value for us at this point given his control issues still not improving and the upcoming 40-man crunch Meh. I would not want the Brewers to spend $10M, about 10% of their current payroll, on a reliever anyways (closer or not). I feel like Stearns wouldn't want to do that either, or at least I hope not. I guess the money coming over is for this year then?.... I wouldn't have an issue with paying Soria $10M for 2019, as it is a one year deal. Can trade him at the deadline if we are out of it. That would basically max out the payroll for next year though.

  4. Did they just revise today? Seems like I looked this morning and the draft picks weren't on there and players like Grisham dropped or Nottingham went up as evaluated.
  5. Even though Soria is controlled for next season, I agree that this just means more is coming. But, I don't think it necessarily has to be a starter (at least from outside the organization). But there has to be a bat coming, because we need a lead for these relievers to protect.
  6. I think that's pretty much all you had to say. Good trade. Pretty much literally everyone that discussed the upcoming roster crunch said Medeiros was a lock to be added. Now that we dealt him we would have struggled to find a spot for him anyway? I assumed he was a lock. But, feasibly this frees up another spot to protect someone else that was on the bubble. However, if Soria is kept next year, which it sounds like, it would have no 40 man roster implications, unless you assume this means Barnes (or similar) is unloaded at some point because we have Soria.
  7. Thought the same thing. Maybe send him back to AAA to get stretched out Suter gone. Davies gone. Nelson never had. We assume Peralta is going to run into innings limit. Plus I have Miley concerns myself. So I can get behind sending Burnes down right now to get stretched out and he replaces Peralta in three weeks.
  8. Now there is a name. I always followed his father because he was one of the few Wisconsin Badger baseball players.
  9. If I had to pick between arm and a guy that can block balls, frame pitches and call a game - I would take the latter. I have no idea if Ramos does those things either. I just don't think teams run enough nowadays that the arm is a priority, but it is hard to put a stat to the rest of the stuff a catcher does.
  10. Correct, it makes plenty of sense from that standpoint. It also makes it easier for them to trade a catcher this year. I know Ramos is on the DL, but he could be an August waivers trade candidate if they don’t move him before the deadline. https://www.mlb.com/news/predictions-for-2018-mlb-trade-deadline/c-287131076?partnerId=ed-12915931-1086168613 Wilson Ramos, C, Rays There's a myth out there that says that players on the disabled list can't be traded, and it's simply not true. (As one of many examples, Bronson Arroyo and Phil Gosselin were both hurt when they were swapped on opposite sides of the Touki Toussaint trade.) Ramos was off to a fantastic start (.297/.346/.488) before he tweaked his hamstring, but he's expected to return in early August, and the best destination is the same as it's always been, because his old mates in Washington are suffering through one of the weakest offensive catching seasons (.183/.267/.266) of the 21st century. Prediction: Nationals
  11. https://www.mlb.com/news/predictions-for-2018-mlb-trade-deadline/c-287131076?partnerId=ed-12915931-1086168613 He predicts Dozier to Red Sox. Escobar to DBacks. Cabrera and Wheeler to Brewers. All the more the reason to grab Escobar while we are at it. Saladino can be the main backup at SS and 2B.
  12. I would take Gibson, but would not risk holding up the trade for Escobar and Dozier to do it. If Gibson is making $4.8M, this year - I assume he will make $7M next year in final year of arby?... I would also assume I would be trading Gibson off during the offseason, unless Anderson can be moved for value. Escobar and Dozier for Villar and Houser? Not enough? Need a kicker? If you want to go Gibson, Escobar, Dozier then Villar, Houser, Ponce, and Stokes?...
  13. I'd say there's a very good chance a starter is acquired from outside the organization, as they have shown no indication that Burnes is going back to starting this year. I'd love to see a non-rental, but at this point they probably just need a body that isn't going to get shelled. We also have Houser, who's been starting at Colorado Springs. If Stearns feels we need someone, get a rental (unless it is DeGrom). We need to assume that at least two spots next year will be for: Peralta, Burnes, Woodruff (lets not get into Hader now). So why pick up a guy that is only going to be in an overcrowded situation anyways? I fear we aren't going to get value for whoever we trade off from the current starters to make room for them.
  14. I assume this issue is, if you aren't sending over substantial prospects, Minnesota has no motivation to do anything until the drop dead date. They might as well wait to see if they win five in a row and Cleveland loses five in a row or there is an injury that would bump up the price of their middle infielders. Would be nice to get a hitter sooner than later. Not that Dozier has started hitting yet (still cold last two weeks). Escobar is still hot. Get someone.
  15. That is why you pitch Burnes the 9th and Knebel the 10th. #2-4 for Brewers batting bottom of 10th. I trust the 2nd inning of Burnes more than Williams nowadays. Perhaps they didn't want Burnes to be down for 3 days? Hope you are right. All I see is a game that is for the taking tonight and I assume Counsell will be over-cautious with Burnes days off anyways.

  17. Actual I assume more managers than not employ their closer when tied at home in the ninth. Hence the following the manual comment.
  18. Nope, the 9th is "Corey's inning." I'd be okay if the Brewers #2-4 hitters were coming up bottom of 9th. Should have stayed with Burnes, as we may need that inning later.
  19. I wouldn't mind trading Santana and Broxton for prospects if a team was needy enough to give us good value.
  20. This can't be a serious question, right? Yes, Chris Archer is better than ANY of our current starting five pitchers. I get he has to face the DH over a pitcher and he is pitching in the AL East. But isn't he also in an extreme pitchers park? If he is better than our starters, he sure hasn't shown it lately. And put me down for a hard no on Hiura for Archer. Now if are talking DeGrom, I can get behind that. DeGrom was looking pretty disgusted at his Mets defense last night.
  21. Our hand is forced is a bit of hyperbole. I'm not against sending out prospects that we could potentially lose to 40 man roster for a starter, but I wouldn't assume they would be any better than what we are starting already. We still have Anderson, Chacin, Guerra, Peralta, Miley. Woodruff is #6. He would probably only go 4 innings his first outing and build up from there. I still think Burnes can be stretched out again regardless of whatever the Brewers are saying now. Then you have a coin flip on maybe getting back a decent Davies. You can stack Asher and Lopez and eat up some innings one day if you are just getting by. But also remember that we will have days off, and can skip a spot in the rotation if we need to if someone isn't performing as well or to keep Peralta's innings down. I know Wilkerson has looked terrible in MILW, but he has looked good in AA last year and very good in CS this year. Probably is a AAAA guy, but I am willing to give him one last look before giving up. If we are only talking about a spot start and we are deep in the hunt, then you could also use a few of the AA starters that are having fine seasons, but probably Medeiros as he has to be protected anyways. Then in September, you can bring up Ramirez, QTC, Asher, etc and have a bullpen day if you really wanted to. And of course the lottery tix in Jimmy Nelson.
  22. Broxton on 2b, no outs, - Yelich, Cain, Braun coming up. No score. Another of those nights.
