  1. I figured Jennings may not be full go after pitching two innings last night. Santana isn't a good hitter, then you got a lefty, the key was getting the switch hitter.
  2. As the guy who's been saying all year he had no confidence in Barnes...the problem with that theory is that JB is a major league option to pitch with a 4-run lead. That's why we need April Albers back so bad.
  3. Do we have to bring up that Aguilar is due for regression to get good Jesus back? Seems like that has been the case up till this last dry spell.
  4. And when he was on the radio he admits he likes to churn the pot too. Of course the Brewers have inquired about him, to see what the Orioles were thinking - just like every GM with a playoff pulse that has a need at 3B/SS would have by now. Maybe the Orioles will really like a few players in our system that the Brewers feel they can part ways with and a trade gets done. I think if the Brewers do pull the trigger on this, they should follow it up with a trade for an ace or Realmuto. I'd really hate to end up in a one game wildcard playoff after using up assets for Machado.
  5. Jennings basically is one and will be in the playoffs. He's been tasked with cleaning up the garbage in a blowout either way when he isn't getting his LOOGY opportunities and that's why he's been a gas can in a few games when we let him get smoked by righties when the game is out of hand in either direction. Yeah, until the Brewers get Albers back and an 8 man bullpen, they really can't use Jennings as a loogy (like he should be).
  6. Because they shouldn't (and won't) allocate so much of their budget to one player. You are talking at least 25% of the player budget on one guy. Specifically they couldn't afford 2019, we are basically at $95M without any free agent spending. I really don't see the ownership going to a $125M budget.
  7. I don't even see the need for a insurance policy starter and don't see where we would make room for one. We have depth (Woodruff, Davies, Miley, Burnes). We have a decent starting rotation. We just don't have an ace. Unless someone gets hurt, we either need a clear upgrade (Mets pitchers, ??) or you might as well spend our assets elsewhere. Curious if people think that Mikolas is what he has shown or if he will come back down to earth? If the Cards fall behind even further by the end of July.....
  8. I thought you said this was the optimism thread? 11-0! I thought you said this was the optimism thread? The Cubs and Cards will announce that they know they can't beat the Brewers and have forfeited the rest of their seasons.
  9. Missed it. Why is Fried out? Just young guy they want to keep limits on or an injury?
  10. I'm sure it is somewhere in the 24 pages, but if they don't sign him, they get a draft pick next year that is one pick later than he was this year, right? Plus they would have whatever pick they have from where they finish this year, right? If so, I assume it is too early to say how deep a draft next year will be, right? I assume you would rather spread out your picks, but there is also something to be said for having multiple guys coming up to the big league club at the same time while getting paid pre-arby salary. Not that you can assume two high schoolers drafted in the first round together, would end up on the same timeline.
  11. Going to need at least six innings from Chacin. If one down in the game or better, probably Barnes and Williams for an inning, and JJ for an inning whenever the meat of the order comes up in 8 or 9. If behind by more, I assume Zagurski gets another look. But has he pitched more than an inning at a time in the minors this year? I see 32 games played, with 30 innings pitched. Doesn't make me believe that he can come in and eat up innings if Chacin comes out early. I guess Freeman and Markakis don't have much of a split, so I guess it doesn't matter that we don't have a loogy.
  12. I think you are on to something here. I know the Brewers would likely do it given Dozier is the better player, but I think the Twins would as well. They are having a down year after a playoff season last year and really don’t need to rebuild. Getting a major leaguer with team control for Dozier makes sense. The Twins may take Villar back, but I assume you are also tossing in more if you are the Brewers. Wouldn't the Twins just keep him for the comp pick if that is the best they can do in the trade? Or are we thinking his down season will continue and the Twins won't QO?
  13. So would he be considered defensively? An average centerfielder, above average, excellent? Arm? How good does his defense play?
