  1. Seems to me there is a place for him. I think he is too valuable to relegate to pitching once a week for 3 innings when the starter gets blown up. It would seem logical that the hitters get used to him the third time through, but I would really like to make sure that is the case with a larger sample size. I assume he will be starting at least until Anderson is back, so that is a start.
  2. 1. Brinson 2. Hader 3. Woodruff 4. Hiura 5. Burnes 6. Ortiz 7. Phillips 8. Peralta 9. Clark 10. Diaz 11. M.Harrison 12. Lutz 13. Ray 14. Dubon 15. Erceg 16. Diplan 17. Supac 18. Bickford 19. Gatewood 20. Lemons 21. Derby 22. Yamamoto 23. Stokes 24. QTC 25. Ponce 26. Wilkerson (give the "old" guy a chance)
  3. We are just making it so when we beat the Cubs for the division, their defeat will be that much more crushing than if we just led by 5.5+ games the whole way.
  4. I think someone listed the walks and the situation and some of them were logical, but still it is obviously an issue. There would be no way I would bring him in with the bases loaded.
  5. Missed Sogard. Scanning baseball-reference, they had him after the pitchers because he is on the DL - so missed. Thanks.
  6. If you assured me we would be relatively hot, healthy, and could set up our starting pitcher lineup, I would take any guaranteed spot now.
  7. I'm pretty sure 100% of the roster is controlled for 2018 (Garza option probable). After that, I think it is Hughes and Torres free agents in 2019 and that is it.
  8. What was the book on Cooper's defense at 1B?
  9. I agree. Injury shouldn't count as a "bust". How high did Ben Hendrickson get on the ratings before it was figured out he was a AAAA pitcher?
  10. I would not trade Woodruff or Burnes. After that I am open for business, especially outfielder trading business. You have to assume one of Brinson/Broxton/Phillips is going to be traded in July or the offseason. Cordell has been injured and needs to improve his road splits to gain any trade value, so I would think he would be in CS again next year. I think the guys I would have been hoping to trade (guys I didn't like as much as how high they were rated) have dropped their value enough now to where their value is about what I thought it was a bit ago. So I am not thinking there is someone I can "dupe" into taking off my hands for more value than worth.
  11. Obviously some of the prospects that are down are not going to bounce back. If someone knew, they would be GM of the year annually. So their current value is their value, and that is what you have to trade with. Now you may know that a player was nursing a bad wrist all season, or something akin, so you wouldn't trade them as you are pretty sure they will come back. I do agree that we need to try and trade from the logjam that is the OF. Try to push OFers. Hopefully someone gives us value for Cooper. I wouldn't mind if 2 of Broxton, Brinson, Phillips, Cordell, Ray, Clark were traded. I don't see Braun being moved, so we always need a good 4th guy to be ready (which could be Perez). But Santana should be the RF for another 2.5 years before he is traded for max value. All three AAA OFers are probably ready for their chance in MLB next season.
  12. The PCL without Colorado Springs, would still be considered a hitters league, right? So I would think an .842 would translate in the short run to pretty close to .750 in MLB.
  13. I haven't studied the Giants roster or their minors - but you see what the Brewers have done and that is with a much more limited budget. The Giants could trade away anyone now that won't be helping them in 2019 and eat salary, gather prospects and pay to fill the holes still on the roster and come back with a vengeance pretty quickly. Besides aren't they an every other year team anyways?
  14. Lol, small sample alert. I have very little doubt that if Brinson was brought up for good and given an everyday spot, he'd very quickly outproduce Broxton. The conclusions drawn on so little never cease to amaze me. Well he was just saying what he thought, and didn't reference anything that would equate to a small sample size. Basically, I agree that over the course of the remainder of this season, at this point, I would stick with Broxton and keep Brinson with every day at bats in AAA. I'm not amazed at your conclusion, but I like to keep an open mind.
  15. Because we are in 1st place RIGHT NOW and have at least 1 hole in our starting rotation? I see one hole in the rotation (Guerra) and one guy I am keeping an eye on (Davies) and one guy that I plain don't trust to remain healthy/productive for the long haul even though he will have a shortened season (Garza). But I see options to replace all three if need be. Suter currently here, Anderson when off the DL, Woodruff when he gets healthy and if then if need be Hader/Blazek get stretched out again, with Jungmann a AAA option. If I knew I was down to using Hader/Blazek in the rotation, I would inquire with Detroit, but would not give up more than an OF (and that is with salary kickin by Tigers). Verlander hasn't shown any coming around in the last month. Too bad Jordan Zimmerman fell apart.
  16. Can Suter keep this up? Channeling my inner Clancy, I sure hope he has shown CC/DS that he deserves a chance. He has had success at every level of the minors, has a 3.12 ERA, with 1.29 WHIP in 49 innings of mixed service in the majors. It seems to me that Suter keeps Anderson's slot until he comes back or proves he can't handle MLB. Woodruff has been out long enough that he would have to make multiple starts down in the minors to show me has it back, and has the stamina. At whatever point one of Woodruff / Anderson is back, then Guerra gets pushed out if he is still 2017 Guerra. If Suter is doing well, then I have to think that Woodruff remains in the minors as the main guy to bring up if a starter goes down. Unless you are willing to tempt fate and replacing Davies, he of the lucky horseshoe of offensive support.
  17. You think a big guy like Thames wouldn't worry about hitting the stands. Alligator arms.
  18. Which should help out Nelson at the start of tomorrows game.
  19. The contact play giveth; the contact play taketh away. I don't mind the contact play with guys on 2nd and 3rd, like earlier in the game. For the chance at scoring a run without anybody out, you give up 2nd base versus 1st base. I'd do that all day.
  20. Davies hit it off the end of his bat to 1st. Vogt went on contact and beat the not so good throw. Fielders choice for Davies.
  21. I am surprised there are not enough cameras to catch whoever threw the baseball. Weird that nobody in stands saw anything.
  22. Evidently not or the Brewers wouldn't have used a 40 man spot on him. And if they were going to do that and he is actually pitching good in the minors, then it is time for the proverbial last chance. Plus he is stretched out versus most of the other options.
  23. This is exactly my thought, this will be Jungmann's last shot to keep a spot with the Brewers. I don't think he is the long term answer, but we have seen he can put together a great month and a half.
  24. Yes, if any pitcher ever walks Hamilton the kangaroo court should really fine the crap out of them. It wouldn't have been so bad if Pina was back there, Hamilton would have to think twice about stealing at least.
  25. Lefty/righty matchup. For his career, Aguilar (smallish sample) has an OPS of .707 vs RHP, Vogt has a career OPS of .750 vs RHP. Statistically, it was slightly better to go with Vogt. I think the first and most important attribute for a PH, is to have someone that is used to coming up as a pinch hitter. That trumps lefty-righty by a lot in my book. Not much PHing in the AL, so I assume Vogt wouldn't have much experience coming in cold.
