  1. There is a difference between a team out of postseason contention playing a guy versus one that is trying for the playoffs. I don't know if the Rockies are the team, but someone out of contention may be more than happy to give the Brewers a little something in a trade to give Morris a three month tryout. The Brewers can't afford to let him bat .180 for a month until he figures it out, when he maybe ends up batting .270 with a .750 OPS thereafter in his career.
  2. If we can split with Cincy, I will take and predict a 13-12 record.
  3. I'm guessing Bianchi as well. He hasn't exactly been lighting up things at Nashville, but he hasn't been bad. Maybe they just feel he's swinging a better bat now. Or maybe it's Pete Orr. That would be a sad state of affairs. With the two off days next week, I assume the Brewers would drop Figaro back down and bring in a position player. I guess it could be Orr if they really wanted a lefty bat, but then I would think they just bring up Gindl (already on the 40 man), so that Herrera doesn't have any more Adventures in Outfielding. So I guess Bianchi 2.0
  4. itsd Coors field I would add something about the Rockies pitching staff also, but we are still playing them, so all I will say is that they are really good.
  5. You know Melvin is going to pull the trigger on someone at the deadline. I vote it will be a "Scott Linebrink", unless two of Kintzler/Henderson/Thornburg are healthy and really playing well at the end of July.
  6. I think you have to give Doug more credit for trading Aoki and getting Smith, then letting Gennett play. A lot of people wanted to stay pat in the OF. So first he had to like Davis enough to move Aoki and then he did a great evaluation job to pick Smith for the return. I don't have a big issue with Overbay, I just thought it weird to keep him over Francisco when you look at spring training performances. Why sign Francisco, as a $350,000 insurance policy, when he definitely was not going to make the team if Melvin could find anybody that owned a 1B glove?
  7. Yeah, but we have two off days in one week. So they could skip Estrada on the 30th and everyone would have an extra day of rest starting with Garza on the 4th. Otherwise Lohse is pitching on July 4th after starting on June 27. I'm not sure how much a concern innings would be for Nelson, if it is a concern, would it be better to just have him skip a start now in lieu of reducing his pitch count in preparation for him to come up in 3-4 weeks.
  8. It seems like KRod pitches differently when he has a multiple run lead. It seems to me, he has went more out of the way to not walk anyone, unlike prior years, which will mean more guys are going to put it out of the park on you. But when it gets down to one run lead, he hasn't let the run(s) scored bother him.
  9. Obviously this isn't going to happen, but would you if you were the Diamondbacks, trade Goldy for any six non-Nelson minor leaguers (or Wang)? Using the BF top 20, for example, that would be Taylor, Coulter, Arcia, Williams, Haniger, Wang/Jungmann. I would tack on cash, but we aren't shipping any salaries so I don't think MLB lets you, maybe they have a bad contract they would want to ship us.
  10. viewtopic.php?f=64&t=31048&start=120 Figaro off the DL for Fiers. Cravy up from AA for Mills.
  11. I would assume pitchers have figured out he is not going to hit the ball out of the park and to walk him would just be stupid (other than IBB to get to pitcher). So he will not have as many opportunities to take a walk as K.Davis gets for example. I'm sure there is a stat somewhere regarding how often pitchers throw strikes vs balls to Segura vs everyone else or how many swings are to pitches out of the zone for Segura. Is he remarkably more than the average?
  12. still waiting for updates on both players' statuses with the organization. I assume the option to leave is open-ended?... If no team comes calling now, they just keep playing status quo. If someone calls next week then they may be gone then. Right?
  13. Fiers was giving up some deep warning track shots yesterday too, which would be fun to see in Colorado. With the "extra" guy in the pen, treat Fiers as a starter now and prep him for the 20th. I think I would plan on pitching Marco one more, but skipping his next start. And then the next rotation use all six men and then Estrada is bullpen fulltime. I think everyone would benefit from an extra day off. And it would allow two starts by Fiers to get us to July 2 before you start Nelson.
  14. No, he can't. Can;t find a source for that info right now but Hellweg to the 60-day DL has been brought up either here or over at BCB. Crew07's Reply 183 in this thread seemed to be pretty certain it wouldn't be a big deal to put Hellweg on the 60 day DL.
  15. What is the downsides to putting Henderson on the 60 day DL and putting Mills on the 40 man roster? That would allow us to keep Mills, right? Other than paying Mills a little bit more to be put on the 40 man roster, where is the downside? If everyone stays healthy and productive on the 40 man, then we DFA Mills when Henderson is ready to come back in early-mid July. Or do we have to put Mills on the 25 man roster to keep him?
  16. This would be my answer. I can still remember when Paul Molitor pulled a muscle in his rib cage when he was leading the league in batting. I figure Gomez for one of those before he is all said and done.
  17. Nelson has to have a rough patch before you would deem him ready? You sound like Roenicke.
  18. I'd prefer Nelson, but I can live with giving Fiers the next 3 or 4. It would allow them to see if Estrada has any value out of the pen too. Estrada is on pace to shatter the MLB record for HR allowed (50). I would do this only because it would allow the Brewers to keep Nelson down long enough to keep him another year at the back end. I am always hoping for another "1992 Cal Eldred" being brought up for the stretch run.
  19. I don't follow the other teams that closely, especially the AL. Is Price still an ace? On the face of it, he has an ERA of 4 and batters are hitting .265 off from him. Blip or something more? Will be 29 in August, so I am assuming just a blip.....
  20. I highly doubt that any team would have given the Brewers anything for a trade. Didn't the Brewers pick him up for free during the middle of the 2013 season because no one wanted him? Juan got a $1.35M contract from the Brewers. The Brewers would have had to pay almost ~$332K when they let him go I believe. Curious - what do the Blue Jays end up paying him for this year?
  21. I don't see the Brewers replacing Estrada until Nelson is clearly out of Super 2 status. Which might work out nicely, as RR won't want to be seen as pushing a veteran out of a spot, but if Estrada earns his demotion with a couple of more subpar starts in the interim....
  22. This is the correct answer. If someone is starting Randy Wolf, how can a min.wage guy like Mills not get a shot? For Nashville, he is averaging more than a strikeout per inning and doesn't have much of a lefty/righty split. You have to question how many innings he has in the tank as a starter this year, its been since 2011 since he pitched a lot. It sure would be nice to have Mills as an insurance policy, if we end up packaging Fiers in a deal to someone - then you have more than Nelson in reserve.
  23. How often does that really happen? Obviously if he is doing good, the team would try to extend the contract at some point, but at the fair value for the year(s) added. Do we really think the Brewers will say to Lucroy, we are underpaying you, have this extra million dollars.
  24. I think if you don't like the deal you are not accounting for the money flow also. Don't downplay the discount we received on his price because we were the only ones willing to part with a a pick and the savings of not spending on the first round draft pick. Whether you want to say that Melvin rolled that money back into making a better current roster or that they used that money for international signings - either way you should be happy. As for those that say it is only a good signing if the Brewers make the postseason, I can see the logic, but don't agree with it. The Brewers aren't the Astros/Cubs of last year where we knew we would be bad, so it wouldn't have paid to add salary to improve a little. They were a team that could be like this year's team, but Braun, Ramirez, Hart, etc fell apart. He is definitely holding up his end of the bargain.
  25. I agree with you LouisEly, Estrada will still have positive value after getting his arbitration amount next season. He may not be able to get you a premier prospect, but he can definitely get you something and I don't see how he would be non-tendered. I think my scenario would be to retain Estrada and hope that Gallardo pitches well enough that you could do the one year option and trade him for a little something. Freeing up a spot for Nelson and freeing up money.
