  1. I am of the thinking that KRod won't bring back a bunch, and if we could package him with Garza to get rid of both, I would do that in a second. I don't think that is possible at this time, but if Garza has a couple of average starts in a row, and the Brewers ship a couple million with Garza then maybe it gets done with some low-level prospect back in return. Even if the Brewers don't spend that money on players immediately, this would allow the owners to pay down debt or whatever now, and when the Brewers next window arises, they would be in a better position to go over budget at that time as can build up equity now.
  2. This right there trumps all best laid plans. When you get nothing from Frederickson, Arnett, K.Davis, Heckathorn, Covey/Bradley (Jungmann?). That is just too many misses in that time span to compete unless Melvin was batting close to 1.000 on signings, trades, other player moves - and obviously no one does that.
  3. If in the end the Brewers don't give ARam away (if they have to by paying whatever of his salary) then someone needs to be slapped around. I don't care if they think ARam will OPS .900 the rest of the season, actually that is the opposite of what I would want (need to keep draft position). Get the guy they just picked up and get him in the roster for July, August, September. If he swims, maybe he gets 2016, if he sinks you know you need to go another direction. That is the great thing about being out of the playoff race, find out what you have from the young guys that are of an age you don't care about starting their arby clock.
  4. Would bringing up Rivera or Arcia "start the clock" and the Brewers would have one less season of those guys later, or is it past that point? I wouldn't bring up an almost 21 or a 23 year old up, if it would start the arby clock. it isn't like we will be competing for anything next year, so you need to see what the young guy can do this year. They can bring them up June 2016, get the rest of the year under their belt and hopefully the team would be competitive in 2017.
  5. When Wang clears waivers, will the Brewers still have to pay him the $300,000 rate or does he go down to whatever a minor leaguer makes in single A ball or something in between as an ex-40 man roster guy?
  6. Well pretty much anyone is less veteran than ARam. So if we can go younger and cheaper at any point, go for it. Is there any reason the Brewers can't go ahead and trade the guy they would supposedly pick up? Do you have to keep for 30 days or anything like that?
  7. KRod has to have his most value at this point in time, definitely need to trade in-season. Will get much more now from a contending team, versus waiting to the off-season and his paycheck goes way up. Plus we can save half a season of this year's pay or $1.5M after bringing up a minor leaguer.
  8. Good find. Let's move KRod now while he is hot. But will the owner let Z trade while in 4th place and a 5 game losing streak?
  9. Well if I was a team trading for Braun I would be very worried about his thumb and his intercostal and whatever other injuries are going to pop up as he gets older. Not saying I wouldn't want him, but I wouldn't give away the farm for him and you should have a good plan B to replace him if you expect to be a contender.
  10. The Brewers can always trade for him back at the end of the season, I just hope the rental price is steep. We can trade Lind for a good prospect and a player to be named later (Lind). only half blue
  11. I assume there is some risk of losing him by taking him off the 40, right? So my guess is they thought this was the time of year and with his particular situation, they could most easily slip Jim Henderson through without him being taken by another team. And if you can do it, even if you don't have a corresponding move in mind, hey you have cleared a spot for later on when you will need that spot.
  12. I would actually list Broxton as the #2 (Lohse #1) guy that will go this year. You know the Brewers will eat most of the contract (including the $2M buyout) just to unload, and teams usually could use one more bullpen guy. So unless Broxton is soooo horrible that no team even wants him on the roster, even if they had to give up no one and are only going to pay him a trifle, he is gone. I say Broxton goes first, as KRod could still be the closer next year and KRod's buyout is bigger and it will not be so cleancut on what will be done with him for 2016.
  13. I can't see the Sky Sox being picky as they are the last place any MLB team wants to put their minor league team. I sure hope the Brewers find another partner for 2017.
  14. I would assume not. I would assume Lohse is traded off for whoever gives them the most salary relief. Which means they already will be in the market for another free agent pitcher next year unless Thornburg shines when given that spot. Plus you still have to see if Nelson and Fiers deserve a spot in the rotation next year. I doubt Melvin wants to try and fill more than one rotation spot considering his lack of starting pitching options on the farm. It's okay to have Jungmann as a second or third option as a rotational filler, but I wouldn't want to rely on throwing him out there 32 times next year unless the Brewers have a fire sale this year.
  15. That is why I think the Brewers may trade earlier than not, even if they are "only" 7 games back of the wildcard. There may be a team or two that is win now and has an obvious hole that they may not want to wait until even June to fill. Just like Melvin paid a premium to get CC early, I could see another GM doing so also. While the current wildcard may be only two over .500, that winning percentage still gets them to 88 wins. The Brewers would have to go 83-57 the rest of the season to get to 88 wins (and then that may not end up being enough). Even if the Brewers were really a .500 team in disguise, they definitely are not a .600 team, so they may as well play for the future.
  16. I would assume that the team would budget quite a bit less attendance revenue now and especially next year, so whereas they may have been able to take on dead money in the past, I bet they don't want to pick up that level of dead money at this time.
  17. Herrera was the guy that spiked a throw about 15 yards in front of him last year. Even ignoring that, he didn't look halfway comfortable in the OF when he was out there to my untrained eye.
  18. Don't know what happened. I meant that post to go to the Herrera thread. Must have started drinking earlier today.
  19. Edit: Never mind, wrong thread.
  20. Ditto. I would use my Brewers clothes as my old and to be abused clothes, so they wouldn't necessarily last that long.
  21. I would hope they don't play around and just 60 day DL Henderson. That would open a spot. I guess they could pull Wooten or Blazek off the 40 man, that wouldn't effect depth as you are worried about it as it is a bullpen for bullpen move. Assuming Lucroy and Lind are "healthy" they could also drop Centeno off the 40 man. Otherwise it would be a utility infielder and Jiminez can be the emergency 3rd catcher, so it probably would be Gomez?...
  22. The article is using team valuations as part of the data to how much a team can afford. That is not the same as cash flow. So they are saying the team's value is going up enough to pay for borrowing costs to pay for current payroll. Not necessarily how I would do business.
  23. I don't think it will be a straight platoon, more like 50-50, so Davis will get enough at bats against righties (edit I had lefties) that he will progress. As for money, Parra is a sunk cost, so it doesn't matter that Davis is dirt cheap. In fact if you are worried about money, wouldn't Davis getting less at bats decrease his cost in arby?
  24. But it wouldn't be that scenario. It would be that Broxton (who has been in that scenario) is closing and Kintzler may or may not have moved up a notch and be the full time 7th inning guy or not depending on how he pitches.
  25. Who cares what he is asking? He will get what the market will pay, and right now it isn't paying what he wants. His best leverage, if he feels he has to be paid at least X amount of dollars, is to be willing to wait and hope some team comes a calling, either through injury or underperformance that can afford him. I wouldn't mind an incentives laden contract, except you know RR will keep throwing him out there all season even if he is stinking it up - so you can't go that route.
