  1. I was thinking the same record, with basically the same reasons, so to be different I will go 16-12.
  2. I don't think Hart is even playing defense for Seattle yet, nonetheless an OF position. If he only DHs for Seattle, I don't know how comfortable I would be to picking him up for 1B, and I definitely wouldn't pick him up to play OF.
  3. I just can't see Melvin pulling the trigger on a deal (even if we hand over nothing) for a veteran guy to just be a slight/somewhat upgrade on Overbay. Overbay would have to be quite a bit less than .400OBP/.700OPS line that he is putting up now. Just doesn't seem his style. I can see Melvin making the deal for a lefty bat-1B that would be in the plans to be "Overbay" this year and would project to be the full-time starter at 1B next year. I have no idea if Nava would fall in the latter category.
  4. What kind of national offers? Unless you are working hosting sportscenter (or the Fox/NBC/CBS equivalent) or they make up a show that he hosts, what are you going to do for work day to day? It seems to me the Brewers are happy to let him go for golf, basketball, etc whenever he wants, so he may not move on until a bigger market MLB franchise has an opening and poaches him from the Brewers.
  5. Maybe Maldy can substitute any Brewer catcher past or present. Wasn't Kendall big into MMA during the offseason as training?
  6. Does the player get paid for the suspended days? If not, then I would hope and assume Maldy appeals to get the days down. There is no reason his pocketbook should take more of a hit than it has to.
  7. Assuming it is too soon to jettison Overbay or Weeks and don't 60 day DL Gorzy - What would be the complications if they took Figaro off the 40 man roster? Would some MLB club go after the 30 year old for their 25 man or could he opt to go to some other teams minor leage system thinking he would have a better shot?
  8. I could see them taking Figaro off the 40 man, but that may be only to put T. Green on it. Velez, I assume matches up with Gennett better being a switch hitter, though I can't see Velez's splits against lefties. Who would be considered the better defensive player - Green or Velez?
  9. I agree this will be the scenario, but it will have to be at least 20 years from now for the owner to pull it off. So hopefully Mark A. holds on that long.
  10. What is paternity leave? 5 days? It isn't like whoever they called up would get a start in that stretch anyways, so the ability to bat comes in second behind defense (and defensive flexibility).
  11. Does he have any background to play 3B? Thought he was a CF in college. That would be quite a jump. Does he project to a corner infield bat? If not, wouldn't you get more value trading him to someone that needs a OF in two years. Moot point I guess as he isn't currently playing any 3B in Huntsville, is he?
  12. How about a decision that Gennett will start 60-66% of the time and Weeks will start the other games, while planning ahead so that Weeks is obviously starting against lefties? Seems like that is a decision and one I would go with until one player obviously earned the position or one player obviously lost the position. Weeks is getting closer to that latter point, but is not there yet.
  13. No team will pick him off from waivers, as trading with the Brewers would be a better deal as the Brewers would pick up most of the salary in a trade (for a bag of balls). So Weeks will get through waivers and there will be a team or two that he will get to pick from that will end up just paying the prorated minimum wage piece of his contract - if and when the Brewers cut him outright. I think if I was another team that just had my 2B hurt, I would trade for Taylor Green before I looked to pick up Weeks. I believe Green has an option where the Brewers can't stop him from leaving if a MLB team wanted him, but the Brewers get compensated (not sure how much is decided).
  14. I would think that a realistic option would be for the Brewers to look at moving Nelson and someone like Haniger to get a player on the cusp of the majors at 3B this year. You can afford to trade Haniger if you assume Davis (or Gindl in replacement of) is MLB average. You can even toss in 1-2 pitchers like Jungmann/Pena/Goforth as needed. So even if the Brewers resign ARam for two more years and don't move him to 1B, you can move the prospect to 1B. Then you haven't buried a prospect. Taylor Green is still around as a backup at every position other than SS (assuming they keep him somehow on June 15). Hunter Morris / Jason Rogers would be buried, if they improved to the point where he needed to go to the majors.
  15. This is what I do. I am not going to give him an extension, unless it was very team-friendly. I really don't think he has a great season left in him, but if he does it will be the next year or two when we have control already anyways. He just doesn't pitch deep enough in games to be paid as much as someone will probably give him. And who knows, maybe some Dave Duncan can fix something or add a pitch that can keep him in a game longer.
  16. I think if you look at what happened in the last couple of games, Kintzler already warming up (4/8) and trying to get Henderson squared away (4/8,4/9) it is understandable. I also think they probably want to get as good a look at everyone before they have to make the Gorzy coming off DL decision. So we may not see Wang for who knows how long. But there is still a ton of season left, and I'm sure he will get enough work in before the season is over will probably be up to at least Tim Dillard level of use.
  17. I'll just say a two things with regards to stretched out. Each pitcher is different. And one may surmise in some instances that a player that the team doesn't have a big investment in may get the rented mule treatment - not saying that is the case for Figaro or Hand, but it may be a factor when considering how fast to up Thornburg's pitch count.
  18. I suspect only Braun and UL Washington can pull off the toothpick.
  19. It sure seemed to me he was high-fiving everyone really hard with his right hand. I know if my thumb was injured I wouldn't be doing that with that hand. I would use my other hand (or close my fist or something) just in case a teammate slapped me in the wrong spot. Makes me confused also.
  20. A deal like this trickles down to all levels of pay (other than the first three pre-arby years). So I do think it affects the Brewers. Younger players going to contract will say they are practically as good as him and deserve 90% of his contract, etc, etc. Which in turn will guys you want to resign and guys that are young enough to effect arby comparisons. All of which pertains to the Brewers.
  21. Gindl has 36 at bats this spring with a .194 ave., 600ops. http://milwaukee.brewers.mlb.com/stats/sortable.jsp?c_id=mil#game_type=%27S%27&playerType=ALL&elem=[object+Object]&tab_level=child&click_text=Sortable+Player+hitting&season=2014&season_type=ANY&league_code=%27MLB%27&sectionType=sp&statType=hitting
  22. Seems like we will have quite a full pen down in AAA after the club cuts down to 25, so it was probably numbers. I assume he hadn't shown increased control this spring, or they probably would have waited.
  23. Has the MLB put in any rules about the teams that have already lost 1st round picks that then acquire the other QO'd players and then trading them in prearranged deals for teams that don't want to lose their first round pick? Are you required to keep a player so long?
  24. If you put a dollar valuation on a 2nd round pick what would it be? I think Baltimore did fine, they saved at least a couple of million on what they would have had to pay him if he didn't have any draft pick compensation tied to him. Plus they have opportunities to get value from him via trade or qualifying offer.
  25. That sure put things in perspective. Hope he is able to make it.
