  1. I have $99.5M now for the 25 man roster. A couple notes this doesn't include performance bonuses, and it assumes Green & Izturis get the 24&25th spots which are up for grabs. Barring FA any signing those spots would likely go to somebody else making the league minimum so even if they don't make the team it is a wash. I wish I knew how to export excel in here I could show the out year obligations as well. C Lucroy 0.451B Gamel 0.452B Weeks 113B Ramirez 6SS Gonzalez 4.25OF Hart 9.3OF Braun 7OF Morgan 2.35BN Gomez 1.96BN Kottaras 0.7BN Green 0.45 BN Aoki 3.5 (Includes $2.5M posting fee + $1M salary)BN Izturis 0.45 SP Grienke 13.5SP Wolf 9.5SP Gallardo 5.75SP Marcum 7.725SP Narveson 0.47RP Loe 2.175RP Axford 0.47RP Braddock 0.45RP Estrada 0.45RP Parra 1.2RP Rodriguez 8RP Veras 2 (Brewers arbitration offer. Veras requested $2.375. case pending) TOTAL 99.55 I have Weeks at $10M, Hart $9M, Braun $6M + $2.5M (prorated bonus), Gallardo $5.5M.
  2. POY - Gallardo POY - Gallardo ROY - Gamel MIP - Gallardo BD - Krod CExt - Melvin waits out Greinke and Marcum and no one else is really in a position to have one. They are either too young or have a L-T contract in place or are a CF with questions. Off - can't see any of the regulars (until July at least), and its too hard to say who are going to be the fringe of bullpen or utility man. Three-way tie for first with Cards and Reds with 89-73 record.
  3. Well assuming the inflation rate of baseball salaries is about 6% ("only" 2.7% last year, but way more in prior years), in 9 years that $24M will feel like $15M of 2012 baseball salary.
  4. The state of Michigan still has 70% more people than Wisconsin and I assume the TV contract is based on the whole state (like the Brewers). So I would assume their contract would be proportionally more than the Brewers. Detroit's population has gone down 25% in ten years, but the urban/metro area is still 4 million people. So even if you eliminate the people that are on Hardcore Pawn, they would still have more people with disposable income than the Brewers.
  5. Methinks you are going to be a zombie the rest of your life.http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/wink.gif
  6. Other than they don't have those types of prospects in the system (right now) to trade. But put me down in the let them play the 2012 season and see what happens. I will pay that extra premium for waiting to verify how these pitchers will do for another season. If I am resigning one now it would be Grienke, with hopefully some salary protection if Grienke misses time due to non-physical reasons.
  7. So I just want to be clear, you actually think Gamel should feel dissed because the Brewers are talking about using Hart at 1B once a week?
  8. You are talking about a guy that hasn't been a regular in the majors (or earned anything) as being dissed if the Brewers have a backup plan? I sure hope Gamel is more mature than you give him credit for.
  9. I can't see being better (and only worse) when we only missed approx 7 games from starters for all of last year. I figure Grienke to be better and Wolf to be worse and offset each other. Gallardo, Narveson, and Marcum I figure to be in the same ballpark as last year. Injuries?
  10. It wouldn't surprise me if the Brewers told K-Rod and Boras that if they won arby and were awarded 11-12 million, they would cut K-Rod. K-Rod would have then gotten a fraction of the money he won in arby, and what team would have signed him and at the price they'd want? So K-Rod and Boras might have thought that 8 million guaranteed is better than the alternative. This also makes him much more tradeable if it comes to that too.Unless you assume KRod would have received less than $6.5M on a single year contract on the free market, he would have made more money (and possibly chosen where to go) by: going to arby, getting cut and making the Brewers pay 1/6 (is this still correct after the new CBA?) of the arby settlement.
  11. I can't believe that KRod didn't just go to arbitration. It would seem to me that $8M would be his floor at arby. Yes, it is all guaranteed now, but in what scenario would the Brewers have just cut ties with him during camp without an injury which would have made them on the hook anyways? So I am still leery that there is some incentives/bonuses that may not have been reported yet.
  12. Did any dollar amount for Kotteras signing ever come out?
  13. I bet the commissioner can do whatever he wants as long as it's not challenged by the owners or the players union. And I can't imagine either of those groups would like to see the reining MVP suspended. I would assume that most if not all of the teams in the NL would like to see Braun suspended for 50 games. Most teams think they can make the playoffs (division/wild card) before the seasons starts, and it sure would be easier if the Brewers were not as strong.
  14. Nobody is saying the Brewers are going to be out of it by the deadline, it is just a fun "what if" thread.
  15. I'd trade A Ram if possible. Not expecting anything in return unless he is really hitting and someone is desperate. But clear his salary and hopefully Green is ready.
  16. I very much doubt it also, but now may be the time for the team to move Braun (if they feel that is the team's best long-term interest) as he won't have very much "leverage" after being suspended for 50 games. I really don't think Braun will lose any "leverage" with the Brewers. I think people are way overstating the effect of a possible 50 game suspension on Braun's future. Geez, some people are even talking about trading him? Really? I don't know who is talking about trading him, that would be crazy. But do you think Braun would publicly complain, pout or cause any trouble about being moved to 1B while he is under or just got done with a 50 game suspension? And he isn't going to sandbag and risk "confirming" that his past numbers were a result of illegal supplements.
  17. I very much doubt it also, but now may be the time for the team to move Braun (if they feel that is the team's best long-term interest) as he won't have very much "leverage" after being suspended for 50 games.
  18. No it would be smart to negotiate a huge option year and some type of no-trade clause and sign a big, long contract with an NL team. And when that team can't take his play at first anymore and wants to get rid of him, he will tell the AL teams he wants his option guaranteed before he agrees to a trade.
  19. I would hope our catcher, despite being young, would get at least 20% of the games off. So I wouldn't say he lost PT. But if you aren't tied to Wolf, you can match up versus the opposing pitcher to get better hitting matchups.
  20. I think it would be safe assume the buyout and consider it $36M guaranteed money over 3 years. In other words, what are the chances the Brewers are going to pay ARam at least $16M in 2015 (assuming minimum logical, since no details). My first thought when I saw what type of steep escalation on salary was what kind of no-trade protection is built in. Could be the Brewers are out of it in 2013 and someone needs a corner infielder.....
  21. This removes any temptation to run McGehee out there every day,How do you figure? He ran him out there every day last year, and as far as I know they haven't eliminated the 1B or 3B positions from the game. I can see ARam and McGehee playing every day at those positions while Gamel and Green rot away.
  22. I disagree with this costing KRod in the long run. This is logically the best way for KRod to maximize his salary over the long haul. Take the 2012 arby award that will only be an increase over his last year pay (when is the last time a arbitrator did not increase the pay after a good season). Then have a decent season and go for your long term contract after that. The argument that was levied against that was "well KRod wants to go for the save stats". Well guess when push comes to shove we see where the priority is. I don't blame Melvin for gambling, but he lost - now to focus on minimizing the damage.
  23. There were some frontloaded contracts in the NFL to try and steal free agents away because of the hard cap. Seem to remember the offensive lineman that went to/from Vikings/Seattle because the other team couldn't make the numbers work for the next year. I suspect the backloaded contract is because of the baseball inflation rate and trying to maintain a somewhat even budget. If the baseball salary inflation rate was 2% instead of 7% (or whatever it is), it wouldn't be such a big deal to frontload more. By this time next year, Wolf's 2013 option will probably look like a decent value, whereas a couple of years ago it seemed like a forgone conclusion that it wouldn't be exercised.
  24. Heaven forbid they sign KRod to a long term deal. I'm not sure Ax brings enough back in a trade, as obviously there isn't a great demand out there for closers (or KRod would be gone), so the fact that he is min wage only gets you so much more. Yes, they could trade KRod. The fact that is it a 1 year deal and the fact a team doesn't give up a draft pick makes him more valuable, but I still think the Brewers have to kick in salary offset. And if you wait until a contender loses their closer, then the Brewers themselves would have a hole in their bullpen as you have to plan as if KRod is on the team the whole year and you don't try to keep Loe/Saito.
  25. I don't know why being a utility player would matter in regards to a 1 versus 2 year contract, unless Melvin thought JHJ would be blocking current minor leaguers in 2013. But I suspect Melvin will end up signing some other lesser utility player for 2 years probably anyways and throw that idea out the door. Personally, I would have went 2/$6.5M if that would have done the trick. He just covers your butt in so many positions....
