Great write up. And interesting as you have Letson and Cornielle among the top 3. I just put in a review of their starts last night, and I have been watching Cornielle for a while, and loved his interview with @Seth Stohs last year - such a great kid. But while the results are similar, the way they get there are different, and I would put Letson as #2 given the ability and the way he was so consistent. Cornielle had one amazing outing, and has been lucky with his good stuff but his command will make or break his day. And when Henderson and M. Rodriguez fall off the top 5 that tells you the SP had a good month. Looking forward to seeing some new names on the list as we will eventually see DeBerry, Renz, Tobias and Dorchies all debuting, and some players coming back from IL stints, and not to mention some guy named Bryce where the Meccage is clear he has some elite stuff and a solid family lineage to be a potential mover in the prospect rankings. Let's go Brewers .... well minor league Brewers at least 😌

I now watched the TRats game. First of all one of the posters ( @Playing Catch ) asked about Areinamo's defense. And I can defer to Spencer, Joseph, etc, but last night's game did highlight his ability. In the second, there was a well hit ball to the hole into left and Areinamo ranged to get it and made a good play to field it, and a good throw, but because of where it was hit he did not get the runner nor make it look close, but that was not on Jadher. Later in the game he made a play on a ground in the 5th right to him as he was "in perfect position" as Chris Mehring stated. He is athletic, smart and fundamentally sound. He can play SS, but I still think he is a 2B/SS/UT player in the future particularly in an organization that has a guy like Turang and another highly touted IF in Pratt. Bishop Letson was great in this game. He was in command. He hit 95-96 in the first, and was 92-94mph in the 2-5th innings, but did hit 95mph once in the fourth. He appears to have 2 or 3 other pitches, one 80 mph that I thought was a curve but a similar pitch was called a change up by Mehring. Maybe he has two in the low 80s?? And another 87 off speed pitch that I thought was a change, but was called an "off speed" and he may have a second FB possibly as there were some that were 91-92, even when he was still hitting 93 typically. He was efficient except for that 2nd inning. Where a chopper to the left and the above stated hit that Areinamo got to put runners on. He battled through with a 34 pitch inning, but 3rd (7), 4th (12) and 5th (13) were all so efficient in pitches. He looked sharp. Very projectible and I imagine he could add a tick to the velo, or at least maintain 95 throughout the game and that could make him a pick for the top pitcher in the system if/when Mis graduates. Health will be his main key, as he hasn't logged a ton of innings, so here's hoping he can stay on the field for the long run. Finally Areinamo and Burke each smoked HR. Burke in particular was launched to deep center showing his power potential. His first coupe at bats he was not a locked in, but made up for. Areinamo on the other hand is always in his at bats, and if he can find some power he will be a future pro in my mind. Baez was hit in the head with a pitch and went down. Hoping he goes through some checks and protocols and will be alright - I suspect he will be out until next series - although I have not checked today's game thread to see if he was surprisingly in the line-up.

2025 Minor League Transaction Thread
biedergb replied to Jim Goulart's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
Great news for Peña and the Mudacts. So tomorrow will revert back to Sunday, as opposed to Rodriguez-day (Carlos and Manuel were both slated to start) -
Cornielle has the stuff, not elite, but good stuff. I’ve been a big fan. But his command is not great. It’s not just control, as he isn’t “wild” (ie like Yerlin for example), but if he misses the zone he will get a lot of balls called, and that leads to walks or longer at bats. And he doesn’t have that elite out pitch which is why he has risen steady, a lot to like, but still more work to do. Maybe the pitching sides EMJ?

Can’t answer completely, but he has had a good arsenal I think low 90s and a couple of off speed stuff. His command will be his main issue. It was not there last night but his composure was as he still made it through 4 innings without much damage. But if he can command he can move up. His ERa is sparkling, and as one of his biggest fans I will admit it is not as accurate- he has been lucky although pitching well but not ERA < 1.00 well. I hope his next start will show improved command. His best starts his command was great and that is better than last year. I will defer to others on changes in pitches or other things compared to last season but he looks similar to last year.

Cornielle was erratic last night. He has good stuff, no velo data or pitch data on the feed. But his command was off as indicated by the high number of walks, and high pitch count. He was at 50 pitches I think at the end of 2 innings. He was great in his last inning in the 4th. A lot of outs were hard hit, but mostly the batters did not have a good read. Effectively wild? If he can hone the command, he has the making of a back end starter or long reliever at the minimum.

I did not but wil be watching this morning both TRats and Shuckers - gotta watch Cornielle’s start for sure. i was able to get WiFi on my planes so saw the game day box scores and updates. Solid for the system all around, even the Mudcats despite digging a hole and making it deeper had the tying run 90 feet away. Man they can definitely turn it in. Pitching and defense is their Achilles heal. But offense especially when healthy (with Dinges and Peña) is amazing, enjoy it while it lasts in Zebulon, and enjoy it in Wisconsin when they get there (both high A and the big leagues😉)….. Given the sad state of the MLB club at the moment it’s time for me to just focus on these baby brewers. Can we return Priester for Yophery please, it’s been less than 30 days - what is the return policy???

This was an absolute gut punch. The lead was lost, but it was a tie game, and this was a routine pop up that was in that "no-man's land" or alternatively "everyman's land" between home, pitcher and first. Anyone could have had it, the catcher called for it and it drifted toward the infield more and clearly did not track it enough. And because it was 2 outs, the runners just ran and easily scored 2. That zone was inconsistent and seemed to be squeezed in the late few innings, but I think hurt Langhorne's rhythm. The inconsistent zone also hurt Reyes, but he was not in rhythm nor in great control so may not have deserved the benefit of the doubt. But Stanley was apparently jawing for several pitches before getting thrown out. Ok, I am still going through my own therapy from the TRats and Mudcats games, as both were within reach and a bad inning really did them both in. Good news? There will be a new slate of games tonight Bad news- I will be flying tonight so will miss Mr. Alexander Cornielle's start tonight. Should be in for Saturday and Sunday games I hope.

No magic as the relentless offense just ran out of gas. A 3 run 8th and 2 run 9th just to get there was all they could muster. Some suspect defense and less than ideal pitching late in the game did them in. TRats trying to claw back into with a walk by Baez, but then Hall flies out. And Alastre ends the inning. One more inning to go in Wisconsin. I'm done for the night
-
Wilken is way to passive and really unsure at the plate. Don't want to pile on him, but he just can't seem to click. He strikes out looking. Sure his recognition is OK and he is getting the walks, but not much more than that. Shuckers lose tongiht 9-5. In the ninth, Lara, PRatt and Wilken all K. And not to pile on him too but Bitonti is slumping as noted, and who would have had Nadal having a higher OPS and more HRs than Bitonti? Mudcats down to the last out now. Down 3 runs. TRats in the 8th still down 6-3
-
Reyes is stuggling with strikes - a couple walks and singles and he gives up the lead, and another hit and it's a 3 run deficit. Ugh Reyes has been squeezed a bit, but just not around to zone to get those calls. Really disappointing relief appearance by him. Sounds are over and lose the second game 5-0. And the Shuckers give back a run, so need a 4 run rally for the comeback. TRats are staying steady at a deficit of 6-3 in the 7th. Going to need to get a rally inning going themselves.
-
Adamczewski hits it really hard but just under it enough but a sac fly get the tying run in. Nice job. Great comeback again. Bitonti stikes out. He has looked lost at the plate. Last year when he came up he K'd a lot, but made contact and hit with power. This season he has no confidence and is swinging at balls and not squaring it up. Going to extras in Carolina. And I missed the Shuckers magic. They are still down 8-5 but get 3 runs in the 8th thanks to Wilken single, Waren walk and an Adams HBP (what else?), followed by Rodriguez single and later a Restituyo sac fly. There is a chance just need another 3 run inning.
-
Zach Peek has not been sharp. 32 pitches and only 14 strikes. He walks the bases loaded, allows a run to score on a WP, and then walks the bases loaded again. Meanwhile runners on and Made up - and is frozen with the pitch and a big K. Made's third K tonight, bummer. Payne up. He has been in a slump. Would be nice to see him break the slump.
-
It's just little league ball in low A. A high pop up and the catcher calls for it, but drops it. And two runs score. Instead of tie game and on to the bottom of the ninth, it's a 6-4 deficit. The Mudcats need a big 9th inning comeback now. Shuckers are still way way down. And TRats can't score, so still trail 5-3, and the Whitecaps are looking for more. Sounds gave up another HR and ol' friend Carols D. Rodriguez scores on the HR, and it's 4-0 Stripers.
-
Maybe some 9th inning magic will be needed. Langhorne can't keep the lead - and it was K, single, HBP and single, and now it's 4-4. Only 1 out and runners on the corners. C'mon Langhorne let's get the last two outs and get the offense a chance to win in the 9th. And Nick Stanley ejected for arguing a missed strike call. And Langhorne walks him. Bases loaded, still only 1 out. Oh boy, not great. Maybe I shouldn't be watching these games 😉
-
Chandler Welch was cruising, and then back-to-back 2 out walks. That is the killer for any pitcher. To his credit he was robbed on a strikeout on his last batter. Got to 88 pitches, but a total of 5 walks in 4.2 IP won't cut it. 2 on, 2 out and Peek is in to try to keep the lead. Of note the second out was a very nice fielding play by Blake Burke. Who says he can't play defense at 1st? Meanwhile Muddies are planning for their 9th inning comeback? Still down 3-1 late. Biloxi still down big. 8-2. Gonna need something special by the Shuckers to get back into this game.
-
Shuckers getting beat by Ethan Workinger - a HR and a grand slam. Not great tonight in Columbus. Gonna need a big comeback. Muddies hanging in 3-1 in the 7th. THe TRats gave up a lead, and then get things going in the 4th. Bases loaded, T. Hall Ks, but Luiyin Alastre get a big hit to RF and i'ts now 3-2 TRats. Diaz strikes out and up to Yhoswar Garcai to keep the inning going.

Jacob Misiorowski if it all clicks still the highest potential in the minors and he is already at AAAJeferson Quero should be in MLB if not for a lost 2024 due to injuryCooper Pratt very high floor, and good ceiling, and at AA as a 20 year old and holding his own for nowJesus Made clearly the potential is unlimited and #1 for BA list, but still in low A, has to have a full season to be ranked #1-3Luis Pena the next best potential, also in low A which will be a theme hereBraylon Payne third best potential, and has speed and defense as very elite tools, but still at low A so not ready for top 5 yet.Tyler Black unsure as the best pure hitter in the upper minors, but a down year and now an injury, he is easily overlooked so falls some but not out of the top 10Craig Yoho dominant and fast rise, but only ranked here since he is a relieverRobert Gasser another injured prospect, but his first taste of the bigs was so impressive. Maybe not more than a mid rotation pitcher, but essentially that is his floor.Mike Boeve Another injured prospect, boy that is a lot of potential that is on the shelf. I will keep him on the list since he was so good as a hitter when he is on the field and can move quick if healthyEric Bitonti the best power potential in the whole system, still a teenager, but also still a low A and strikes out too much. If he can cut down the K and deliver on the power he is top 3 prospect.Bishop Letson Arguable the best mix of projectability, performance and reliability in the pitchers after Miz and Yoho (Gasser is essentially a big leaguer if he can come back). Letson could rise or fall this yearJadher Areinamo one of the most versatile players, hits for average, fields any place in the infield, has some gap power, and just looks like a leader. Probably a MLB 2B only so just outside top 10Josh Adamczewski again the Mudcat bump as the whole team will be highly ranked. He is a 2B and maybe 3B, and he can hit for sure but still under 20 and still only at low A, so can be volatile to assessBrett Wichrowski Another injured player yet to pitch this year, but has as intriguing mix of raw stuff last yearBryce Meccage A top round pitcher, with good bloodlines and thows hard with an easy delivery. This was a top 5 prospect in Brewers system anytime between 1990 and 2015, but is now borderline top 15Logan Henderson showed his potential in his big league debut. The lack of a reliable third pitch (yet), or top end velo will put him in the mid/back rotation trajectory. But he is MLB/AAA already.Luis Lara He is so young AA already, and he has the defense to play in the bigs. He can hit, marginal power, so he stays on the list but may get sucked in the Southern League blackhole/vortex.Brock Wilken Falling so quickly. The defense is real (which was the question), but the bat is now suspect (which was not the question until last year). Tons of power, and was a top pick so will keep him here, but he is in that Biloxi/SL black hole.Luke Adams The Biloxi/Southern league vortex sucking in prospects here. He can/will likely be passed by some A ball or rookie league players, but I will keep him on my list for now because of his young age and the shear enthusiasm he brought to Mudcats and T-Rats prior The next 5 are KC Hunt, Josh Knoth (if healthy would be on the list), EMJ (criminal that I didn't squeeze him on this list I know), and the 2 DSL players (Fenelon and Antunez) based purely on the signing bonuses.

Alright, a 3-1 night for the affiliates tonight. I may be able to watch/join tomorrow, but will definitely be around for the weekend slate. And I'm looking forward to this weekend slate: 1. Cornielle, Letson M Hernandez and Henderson on Friday 2. DeBerry debut, Miz and Hardin on Saturday as well as first ACL game 3. Hunt, Torres on "Rodriguez day" (Carlos in AAA, Manuel in A+), which is also known as Sunday to others.
