  1. Hostetler looked good in his start. HE was pretty efficient, worked quick and was usually around the plate. I know he has a fastball that is low to mid 90s (I heard 94-95 on one call I believe), and has a change. Not sure what his other pitches are. The defense let him down (error in the OF when Payne/Nadal almost ran into each other in the 1st; and a few infield hits that are hard to know given the lack of cameras going to the field with some hits; and Nicasia missed a hard hit liner that he could have had with a better angle I think). Also of note, Dinges looked good as a C, handled the pitchers well, and had a CS. But bad HBP on his hand, I hope it is nothing serious but he knew right away he was hurt. Ugh. Pena looked comfortable at the plate. Payne and Bitonti looked good. Made did look a little overmatched, maybe the hype train is a heavy load to carry.
  2. I plan on watching his outing later today or tomorrow morning. We can compare notes if you watch it. Gonna watch a few games on delay tonight or in the AM.
  3. Agree Joseph. I am not good at recognizing the pitches, but he struggled and seemed to find some consistency mid 2nd inning that helped, but his first 30 or so pitches he was struggling with command, and his last 2 innings he was either back to his baseline FB/change only approach, or developed some better command. I want him to work on the secondary pitches as his FB is 92-94, so he will not get by with that velocity alone. A work in progress and I suspect he will be in AAA for the majority of the year to hone that part of his arsenal.
  4. Solid win by the Sounds. Big inning, solid pitching. Bigger plate ‘o games tomorrow night….
  5. I may have mistaken his slider for curve, as the announcer didn't call it much and no velo on the broadcast feed. I was not watching live so didn't cross references pitches in statcast
  6. Henderson was a little erratic in the first, but 5 solid scoreless innings was in a groove 3rd-5th innings. Gave up 5 BB, but had 8K, and only 3 hits - all singles.
  7. Offense got a spark. Durbin with a solid double to left center. Then EMJ with a liner down the third base line to score two. Then 3 pitches later Alfaro with a HR. 4-0 Sounds. Henderson gets through the 3rd with a good outing. Looks like he may have located maybe slider or change better?
  8. Logan took an inning to get going again. Command was eluding him the first few batters. But then settled in the end of the 1st and was better in the 2nd. But not great look starting slow the first 2 starts of the season.
  9. Yeah Nuke had a much higher BB rate, but man his K rate was crazy. But more in the one good start, one bad start and he may need to be a reliever. I remember back then I was like "Oh Neugie can't be a reliever we haven't developed a starter is so long that he and Gold HAVE to be starters". Sigh. (But we did get Sheet and Gallardo a few years later, and then Burnes/Woodruff/Peralta for 3-4 magical seasons) Still hopeful on Miz, but I do worry that his control is not there yet, and he still has a way to go to be someone I can trust for 5-7 IP every 5 days.
  10. He had a great outing last July I believe, so I will need to see this start to start. He is still giving me this generation's Nick Neugebauer vibes with his inconsistent outings.
  11. mea culpa. I think that was auto-correct I think you can have my back on that one, Joseph, as I know I typed his name at least a dozen times last season.
  12. Wow Edgardo Ordonez who logged 30 games at the ACL in '24 and 26 games in '23, skips past low A to join the TRats - either they think highly of him, OR he became a warm body 3rd catcher. Love to see that young pitching staff - M. Rodriguez, Letson, Corniel, D. Sanchez who join '24 draftees T. Hardin and C. Welch. Odd that Jeremy Vargas is not included.
  13. Interesting that Johan Barrios did not make the Carolina roster. Tyler Rodriguez as well. Both had good showings at the ACL summer league, so either injury (boy that has been typed way too much this month), poor showing, or just a roster crunch. If the latter - Walling and DiTuri have better show up or they both risk being left behind (moved down or released). Excited to see Wande Torres and Bryce Meccage make the team, plus several drafted and non-drafted pitchers from last season (T. Smith, Holobetz as other draftees; Gills, Langhorne, Hostetler, Seppings, Hodges). Odd that no DeBerry is there. Odd that Timmerman is still in low A, being joined by '23 HS draftee Bjorn Johnson.
  14. Did I miss this? I thought Quero was starting the year at AA. Maybe he starts on IL to get extended at bats while building up arm strength?? O'Rae was missing the last week in minor league line ups, and was reported at some event/function that Mass/Jim posted about in Canada. I hope nothing is wrong with Wichrowski, but with the way this season is going Wich is probably sidelined... 😡
  15. I'm only looking at gamecast at work - but are the umps squeezing Bubic as much as they have some of the Brewers pitchers?? If so, why are they not generating anything offensively. It seems like the Brewers hitters are sleep walking. Or by the sounds of the posts here - some are trying to get 3 wins in one game. Maybe they are pressing too hard. I don't know this is about the worst start to a season I can recall.
  16. Too early but ... what players have trade value that will be FA in 1-2 years???? Asking for a friend
  17. How about we start pitching to our own team?? Either the pitchers will get a confidence boost .... or the hitters will finally hit something.
  18. Couldn't agree more. Not protecting Shane Smith was a mistake. We had potential DFA candidates at the time and did not have to select a Connor Thomas (he looks similar to some minor league free agents). Unless there is something that will be unlocked with connor thomas this is looking like a very bad trade off. And our pitching staff is looking like one that has lost talent. This is finally catching up to this team.
  19. Odd. If still with Brewers you would imagine he would be at AAA given the limited depth there. Unless the team was ready to move on anyway. Still this will be his 3rd year at AA
  20. Good question, both are on the 40 man. Rodriguez has MLB experience, more AAA experience, and is the less touted prospect and I would have less concerns about calling him up for a spot start. I would imaging keep Logan in AAA to work on the 3rd/4th pitch against those batters rather than call him up - he would be too tempted to purely rely on his FB/change combo only.
  21. Yes sir - they are one of those exceptions. Maybe we can double jinx this club into having a season to remember ;)
  22. No pressure, but the number of 0-3 teams making the playoffs is small, and the number of 0-4 teams is even smaller. I did not expect this pitching staff to look this bad. Hopefully it is just catching the Yankees at the wrong time, but wow 36 runs allowed in 3 games is a shocking start. And the offense seems fine, but may not have that "kick it up a notch" ability without a rah rah guy like Willy or Ryan Braun before him. Yeli and Contreras are uber-talented but seems like quiet lead-by-example leaders, and Chourio is so young.
  23. Miz is though 4 IP. 64 pitches. 6 K - yay. 3 BB ok. Only one hit - screamer past Miz and ate up Seigler playing 2nd. But still 1-0 Sounds.
  24. Bummer. He truly had unhittable stuff - because he was on and batters couldn’t hit it, or he was off and no batter needed to try. BB/9 of between 5-8 is not great. Plus he had 30 HBP and 36 WP in 157 IP. That’s basically either a HBP or WP every 2-3 IP.
