  1. I had Lasik surgery and my name hasn't changed. Hall is a good athlete but not a good baseball player. I question his work ethic because of a few telling stats. He had 4 triples in 2006 and has had one since (after Branyan showed up). His baserunning yields the same poor numbers every year with about as many CSs as SBs. In 2004/2005 he had reasonable baserunning numbers but since then he's declined. I can't see how a hard worker in his prime without significant injury allows that to happen. He just doesn't seem to be working at his game.
  2. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. and No. No matter how many times you say this it won't be true. Suppan is the definition of a #5 pitcher who is a borderline #4 pitcher. Don't let Suppan's contract cloud your judgement on what Suppan is and isn't.Dats allota No's Nate. If you're right then then the Brewers really don't have to worry about pitching this year. Last year 6 other starters had better starting numbers than Suppan (Sabathia, Gallardo, Sheets, Parra, Bush & McClung). I realize they won't all be around this year but it still makes it tough for me to believe that Suppan is borderline #4. His innings were low again also which continues to be a concern.
  3. We need at least one more SP, two if we keep Sheets. Even though I like McClung & Bush I recognize that along with Parra they all had bad stretches last year. We see what we have in Suppan which is barely enough to call a credible #5. Throw in an injury or two (which is likely) and we still need some arms.
  4. I agree Rillo. This team needs all the defense they can get. Ennder, I'm less concerned about Gallardo's injury because it was such a freak event. Plus he proved to be a fast healer/hard worker.

  7. Endaround, I know you're the stats guru so please tell me how you define plate discipline. Swinging at balls and watching strikes has been Hall's forte for some time now. As for the numbers a telling stat is his 3.5 K's per BB. Maybe that's a lack of skill rather than plate discipline but either way he's killing us.
  8. Yup, Mike Lamb is the next Gorman Thomas.
  9. Lasik isn't going to cause Bill Hall to suddenly find discipline at the plate. It's sad we haven't recognized his falloff sooner and signed some better options. We were having this same conversation about Hall before last season. Hopefully Gamel has some skills and is getting boot camped at 3B to move up his timetable. Hall was leading the league in errors before being platooned and his short stint at 2B was short for a reason. The downside outweighs the upside especially as we have a new manager working to instill discipline with our younger players. Let's move on.
  10. rm, thanks for the update on Prince's weight. I'm always amazed that we have to wait until spring training to find out if our players are in shape. Don't they leave the house during the off season?
  11. OldSchool, I hear what you're saying. Kapler was a decent clutch hitter which should make him more valuable considering we didn't have many guys who could hit with RISP. In the end he didn't seem to get much credit for it.
  12. The guy carried an OPS of .690 in the minors. He's hitting just like he should have been all along right now. I have no idea how he strung together 2 good seasons of hitting against major league pitching. That's so right. I predicted Billy's demise before the 2007 season. In the second half of the 2006 season you could see his lack of discipline overtaking his raw talent. Last year he did hustle out his first triple in about 3 years so maybe he's primed for a comeback.
  13. Considering Counsell got only a mil less last year this seems like a great deal. Does this signal that the club officially doesn't have JJ in their plans for next season? Would it make sense to sign him to a multi-year contract in order to have more trading options? Appreciate any insight.
  14. I like both Blyleven & Morris. Morris didn't look overpowering but found a way to get the "W". His record was actually better than Blylevens (Morris 254-186 vs Blyleven 287-250) even though his ERA was higher (3.9 vs 3.3). Both deserve to go.
  15. I hope we can find more guys like Kapler. Set a great example for the rookies.
  16. Ah, logan's right. I was thinking of Rolen. Edmonds wouldn't be a bad pickup either.
  17. Too close. Bill Hall might spit on me. Thanks for the offer though.
  18. I'm with you Ennder. I was hoping for an Edmonds trade last year but better late than never. It would finally solidify 3B defensively and give us a veteran who can perform in the clutch.
  19. Interesting RotoHerb. How did Prince & Hall do? Seems like they also had many mis-plays that weren't considered errors.Thanks.
  20. For those of you who are saying we're paying above market could you please tell me why. Frankly I thought we'd have to pay much more. Sure he's 41 but he's shown no signs of losing his effectiveness (30 of 34 saves). Also it's a 1 year deal with an option so we're not exposed long term. Gagne was much more suspect and he got $10 Mil. Cordero had poorer numbers and he got close to $12 Mil.. I just don't see how this deal is above market.
  21. 5 to 10 wins was based on moving both Fielder & Hall. Recheck the post. Thanks for the link Brewjihad. I think Hall's range is overrated. He moves well side to side but he almost never gets to swinging bunts. He had the same issue coming in (or going back) on balls when he was in the outfield. That being said, the metric makes sense if a non-subjective measure of range could be determined. I'm just not convinced someone could lead the league in errors (until being platooned) and be an above average fielder.
  22. I buy that TooLiveBrew. His failure to turn a couple game ending DPs made his few mistakes very high profile. He's not a natural fielder but has made himself somewhat capable through hard work. He's the anti Bill Hall.
  23. Got it, thanks. From which site do you pull your data? It seems like a reasonable stat for a short term but not for a full season as the sampling size would be quite high.
  24. Brewjihad, from where do you get your UZR stats? I'd like to study the factors they use as I have a hard time buying Bill Hall as anything but a below average fielder. Thanks!
  25. My cringe reflex for Ricky primarily started tingling when he had to turn a double play or if a ball was on the edge of his range. He seemed slow to get his glove down.
