  1. Heck of a job this season by Wade. Never would have guessed what he could add to the team, much less 4 2/3 scoreless in a NLDS game. Please pass the ketchup.
  2. Yeah, my confusion is Sogard vs. Walker. They signed Sogard super early in the offseason to a guaranteed contract. That made me scratch my head. My guess is that they engaged Walker and found his demands way too high in years/money, so they signed Sogard. Once spring training got under way, they committed to Villar, Sogard, Perez. But, man, I'd much rather have Walker at his 1 year price vs. Sogard. Oh well, no one saw Walker's value dropping that low.
  3. Crasnik via mlbtraderumors suggesting there is no-trade protection and award bonuses in the deal. I don't like no-trade protection. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/milwaukee-brewers
  4. Call me heartless, but I can't get enough of the shots of Cubs' fans faces in the crowd right now! Keep 'em coming!
  5. What's with the Cubs fan right behind home plate pretending to give signals to the runner on second in the 8th inning of Game 3? Does he think the players pay attention to Cubs fans....... Ugh.
  6. Quick question: Do they take the ball out of play for a pitcher's first Major League Strikeout?
  7. The Mets had better not be involved in any of this...
  8. Shows what my "scouting report" was worth! http://www.milb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20140630&content_id=82380972&fext=.jsp&vkey=news_t503&sid=t503
  9. So I went to my 1st Brevard County Manatees game last night! The only problem is that it only lasted 4 innings before the storms came and they suspended it. Therefore my report will be brief (both because of the duration and my "reporting" is probably not all that great). Bradenton SP Glasnow kept the Manatees off-balance from the start by mixing speeds. In my unofficial opinion the umpire's strike zone was very inconsistent for both sides, (particularly with pitches at the knees and below) and the Manatees seemed to really lack any sort of plate discipline in the early going. On the other side, Jorge Lopez seemed just "ok". He was bringing low 90's heat (usually 93 on the stadium radar gun) and seemed to only spot some of his breaking stuff. He got caught over the plate with 4 singles that were all sharply hit by the Marauders. Glasnow was pitching a no-no until the 4th when Nathan Orf drilled a line drive homer to deep left center. Good swing! Other than that the Manatees were not impressing offensively. Orlando Arcia looked particularly over-matched. The two guys I was looking forward to seeing were Delmonico and Roache, but neither did anything in their one at-bat. My seats were really close and Roache looks like he has a pretty decent swing and will grow into his frame. Other than that, all I've really got is that Berberet's mustache is sweet! I'll probably redeem my rain-suspended ticket sometime around the 4th of July.
  10. Thanks Sdcheezhd, I am completely satisfied by your explanation. It is kind of nice to see someone point out when umps make a correct call.
  11. Kudos to Jim Powell and Don Sutton who have had nothing but good things to say about the Brewers during their broadcast. Including Estrada's start last night to Thornburg's stuff (granted he's a Georgia native) to condolences for the loss of Gindl's grandmother. They have praised RRR and remarked on Gennett's ability despite his size. Edit: Sdcheezhed: are you referring to Angel Hernandez's call of the non hit batter on Janish? If so, it sounded like it was Angel Hernandez being Angel Hernandez, not a correct call. (Granted, I'm listening to the Braves' broadcast, but...)
  12. So, I moved to Central Florida for work back in February. I haven't been to see the Manatees yet, but Space Coast Stadium is only a little over an hour away, and I really could use some entertaining baseball! I've got more motivation to attend games now with the addition of Delmonico. I'll see what I can do for you guys (I'm no scout though)!
  13. Just curious, OWBC, does Loria get any money by Marlins Park hosting the WBC? Or does MLB and the county/city get the proceeds?
  14. Astros' fans are gonna be mighty ticked off!
  15. Are you implying that something unsavory happened to the Italian costume while it was "vacationing" at the bars, to make it seem like a punishment to wear it? Just asking.
  16. If no team has signed him by now with the 1st round pick attached as a 34 year old, I highly doubt that any team will sign him on with a pick attached as a 35 or 36 year old, even if the price drops. While I agree with your sentiment, I believe the only opinions we should really be worried about are Doug's and Mark's.
  17. I really don't see a problem with getting Gonzalez time at 1st during spring training. First of all: If he is going to be that "gritty veteran bench player" this year, then a RH 1B is probably necessary at some point. Second of all: it's spring training. Now is the time to get him some reps and see how he handles it. 3rd of all: The Brewers haven't been able to find a RH bench bat with "some pop" (notice I put that in quotes) to relieve Gamel occasionally at 1st, and without Hart, Gamel WILL need a few days off. So while it is not ideal, I believe that they have to keep their options open. If Gonzalez is going to make the team, he's going to have to fill in at other positions than SS (Especially if they really want to give Segura a fair shake). Flexibility is not a bad thing. (However with this manager you never know ) Also: I believe that "powerful bat" part was the writer's touch, not a quote from RRR.
  18. What kind of bugs me is that he is not expected to retire, so he will probably collect his 12.5 million this season when the Cards put him on the DL. It doesn't bug me that STL is out 12.5M, but Carpenter probably realizes he's done and still takes the cash. The "classy" thing would be to retire and save the team that $. Right Carp? stay classy.
  19. I saw this: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/yuniesky-betancourt-and-the-worst-trend-in-baseball/ At least it's a minor league deal... but the stockpiling of below replacement-level players is confusing.
  20. I'm sorry, but I felt too amused by this quote not to share: via rotoworld: FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that Carl Pavano will be sidelined 6-8 weeks after suffering a ruptured spleen when he slipped and fell while shoveling snow on his driveway. Well, that sounds about right for the oft-injured right-hander.
  21. According to TH, Hart's knee swelled up due to offseason workouts and damage was found. Surgery was deemed necessary (most likely by the Brewers' medical staff). Because the medical staff thought that surgery was prudent, because it happened during offseason workouts (i.e. getting in shape before spring-training), and because an actual ailment was found to require surgery, all of your speculation seems silly and unwarranted. There should be no reason to predict that Hart is going to start playing golf or basketball, it's not going to happen. (He's not Josh Beckett and if he does then you can say I told you so) And to be frank, all of the sandbagging comments are completely unjustified and ridiculous. By the way, surgery (recommended by the Brewer's staff) generally indicates that a repair is required for a player to play/perform and that is why it was stressed by previous posters. I would put more credence in the Brewers' medical staff's opinion and the structural damage present, rather than pure speculation on Hart's missing ST and his desire to play golf.
  22. "The thing that surprised me most in baseball is the amount of integrity that most umpires have. It actually took me a while to believe what a good game they'd give you the next night after a blow-up." (Earl Weaver) "The job of arguing with the umpire belongs to the manager, because it won't hurt the team if he gets thrown out of the game." (Earl Weaver) "You know Earl. He's not happy unless he's not happy." (Elrod Hendricks on Earl Weaver)
  23. I'm also too young to remember Earl's managing career, but I'll always remember him through the old Electronic Arts computer game: Earl Weaver Baseball. His dust-kicking was awesome!
  24. I agree, except I haven't been as happy for another team signing a guy since the Twins signed Pavano.
