  1. I agree about the few extra wins and about not wanting to include Burnes. However, I do think there's an intangible aspect when management says, "We're going for it," that leads to a better clubhouse atmosphere and better production. Manny may bring 2 or 3 wins, but the emotional boost for the rest of the team may bring a few more. Now, I'll grant that it is an unquantifiable speculation on my part, but it is the reason I'm bullish on a Machado trade that doesn't involve Hiura, Burnes, and Peralta. (HBP)
  2. This would be right up JosephC's alley. It has a lot to do with projected WAR and surplus value. I'd add Burnes and Peralta to your "pool."
  3. If you are going to continue to post like you have received “insider information” you need to be more specific about where this alleged information was posted. You said your friend received this information from an Indians social media source, but now there doesn’t appear to be any recollection of where the information came from? Frankly that isn’t believable. We will leave your posts up for now and we certainly encourage posters to share information they believe to be credible as long as they are making an honest effort to be as forthcoming as possible. I would encourage you to begin providing evidence of your finding before continuing to discuss this in absolutes. Thanks for your cooperation. +1 “Had to give up CB” and “forced this deal” are pretty absolute sounding.
  4. ZiPS ROS has Machado finishing out the year with 2.6 WAR and a .870 OPS. ZiPS ROS has Escobar finishing out the year with 1.0 WAR and a .778 OPS.
  5. I'd be very interested to see the number of times that teams screw the other team out of a get-away game. I wouldn't mind a rule mandating a 5:30p or earlier local start time for games that require immediate travel after them. Probably 4:30p on the west coast.
  6. I think they're pretty much passed that point now. If they wanted to try to get a better t time based offer, June would have been the time to get that done or at least early July. It's just down to an auction now. Maybe somebody blinks in the next 2 weeks, otherwise the O's just take the best value at the deadline. According to some JosephC math (see post back on page 41ish). Machado's surplus value goes down by about 240K for every game he DOESN'T play for his new team. He's already lost nearly $1MM since JosephC posted that. If we wait until the deadline, Ortiz and a lottery ticket might be comparable value.
  7. For some people, that's true. For me, the only entertainment for which I will shell out more than $100 in a weekend is baseball. There are plenty of things I like to do, but I'll only do them for free or cheap. Baseball gets me to spend money.
  8. This could be sweet. If FG picked both teams, they could scrap the NL/AL thing and have an advanced metrics team against a traditional stats team. I would love to see that game. But I think it would alienate a mass.
  9. I think that most of the middle schoolers I teach would call math disappointing.
  10. This part of the whole mess baffles me. The Orioles have a farm system that would make an onion cry. Their offense is not far above replacement level, aside from Manny. Their pitching WAR is incrementally better than their batting WAR. Meanwhile NYY and BOS have super teams that should last for at least a few years. Why are they seeking current contributors? It doesn't make sense. I hope our upper management never falls into this mindset.
  11. We had some massive nights... (you're not alone)
  12. Same for me. Now it says it will reopen shortly. Probably got hacked by a Russian Brandon Belt Bot.
  13. Well stated. Well calculated. I also agree about Ortiz and Phillips being the top offer. I do have one question that has been under the radar in this thread IMO. What’s the surplus value of the compensation pick that the O’s would receive? Even though we don’t get it for ourselves, we would be taking it away from the O’s.
  14. Harvey has been much better in CIN than in NYM. That's saying something, considering the size of the stadiums. 1. Do you buy his resurgence? 2. What type of prospect(s) would it take to get him? For my money, 1. Yes 2. Ponce or Diplan
  15. I don't think I have Brewer goggles on if I say that Ortiz and Phillips grade out better than Lux and May. I think the Crew will get Machado the day after the ASG.
  16. You have amazing typing skills for someone whose arms are nailed to something.
  17. Does this mean there's nearly a certainty that ONE of these two will happen or that BOTH of these will happen?
  18. Well, two other front-loaded Boras deals have come together with a 2-yr opt out. How do we feel about Arrieta on something like this? 2018 - 30M 2019 - 30M (Player option) 2020 - 15M 2021 - 15M 2022 - 15M
