  1. And one could argue that two skates are Baures...
  2. Don’t take the bait. Sharing is caring.
  3. So, basically all I'm doing is scrolling to the bottom to check if HighHeat19 is online. He(or she) is right now. Waiting...
  4. From MLBTR: 10:38pm: Cain confirmed that he’s headed to Milwaukee in a chat with MLB.com’s Jeffrey Flanagan. “They said from the minute free agency opened that I was on the top of their list,” says Cain. “We just had to work through all the details, and eventually we both got to the numbers we liked.” This just adds plausibility to the idea HighHeat19 mentioned regarding a web of deals that Stearns started spinning back in November. #HighHeatWeBowBeforeYou #InStearnsWeTrust
  5. Good question. He's a 26 year old elite OFer with 5 years of control left. In no way is a Yelich acquisition abandoning the rebuild. What happens next is the question. Is this basically it? If we stand pat or do a smaller free agency move and lose the division by 7 games, where do we go after that? Yelich is still around for 4 years after the first season I just mentioned above but now you have to decide how much more of your chips to put on the table. Or do we empty out more of the farm system to try to win this year/next immediately? Another factor (that others have mentioned here and there) is the fact that we will have a MAJOR 40 man roster crunch in the near future. We could lose a lot of talent to the next two rule-5 drafts. I'd rather have Yellich for some prospects than $200,000 in rule-5 compensation.
  6. I was imagining all of the tangled web being more along the lines of Stearns saying, "If I can shore up the rotation, then I'll go all in and trade one or more of Santana/Shaw/Brinson/Top 10 prospects. If not, we're going to be more conservative with in-house development for this offseason."
  7. I've thought about this for a while and I have an idea of a zone system that would have a human element. For starters, the 3D zone is set up with a border region. The rules for the border region could be set up in a number of ways (percentage of the ball over an infinitely thin line, percentage of the ball within a region of determined width, etc.). The gist of the idea is that if the ball is in the border region, the call is completely up to the umpire. If the pitch is in the non-border-region of the strike zone, it is a strike. The umpire can either call it correctly or be notified that he was incorrect and have his call overridden. If the pitch is outside of the border region, it is a ball. The umpire can either call it correctly or be notified that he was incorrect and have his call overridden. So essentially, the system does not make a judgment when the pitch is in the border region, leaving those calls completely up to the umpire. The system becomes corrective when the ump makes an egregious error. The border region could be as narrow as the league/players wanted. It could even get narrower as the season progresses so that the umps are trained to work toward perfect accuracy for the playoffs. It's just something I thought I'd run up the flagpole.
  8. Jungmann pitched today in CO, so it's not him.
  9. This implies that Stearns has been sleeping. Unacceptable.
  10. Kesty to Appleton "Brewers Player Dev‏ @BrewersPD 14m14 minutes ago More We've signed 1B Chris Colabello and assigned him to Colorado Springs. RHP Burgos transferred to Biloxi, 2B Hiura transferred to WIS"

  12. I was at the May 25th game in Atlanta for my son's third birthday. We sat near enough to the pen that we walked by it a few times. JJ was stretching out during the middle innings and took a bunch of time to talk to my son and wish him a happy birthday. JJ acted like my son was the most important thing in the world. Please pass my gratitude along to him. Here's to JJ saving game 7 of the 2019 World Series for the Crew.
  13. I'm pretty sure that's Dillard (he's on the steps behind rickie, nyj, and parra Also the other RUN DMC guy is Ransom
  14. I went for a year with a broken metatarsal, the analogous foot bone to what Luc probably broke in his hand. I did it when I was skateboarding barefoot. It hurt but was manageable until I tweaked it a year later. I'm very much with pebadger on the general tone. Luc's been nothing but professional. He doesn't even make noise about the fact that Wolf won't throw to him. Let's give the guy the benefit of the doubt.
  15. Too many people are blindly trusting the statement (still seemingly poorly sourced): "There was synthetic T in the urine." Unless all my schooling and my Chemistry Ph.D. brother have me vastly misled, that statement is impossible to make. The accurately worded statement would read, "There is a strong statistical likelihood that Syn-T was present in Braun's urine." Again, I don't want to undermine brilliant science and statistics, BUT, the exact same molecules make up Syn-T and Natural-T. You CAN NOT definitively say that there was Synthetic T in his system. In the Landis case, there are still people who believe that beers he had to drink (Barley is very picky about choosing as much C-12 as possible) caused a positive result.
  16. I agree with you AZBC, however, If Braun truly believes that the whole decision is a victory for all people who have been wrongly accused, I could see him wanting to sue to send a message. I don't know if they would have just cause to do so, but I could see MLB and MLBPA working together to punish an individual in order to send a similar message to other would be leaks.
  17. ESPN's Ombudsman had an article (sorry can't find the link) condemning the network for its blurring of reporting on athletes and worshiping them. It came out about the same time as "The Decision". To summarize, that LeBron fiasco, all of the "This is SportsCenter" commercials, and a number of other incidents are a huge problem for a network that wants to be a picture of fair and equal reporting. How can a network have its reporters act in commercials with the players they cover, pay both parties to do so, and still consider itself fair and equal? Personally, I think those commercials make for brilliant entertainment. That's the first letter in ESPN - Entertainment. Furthermore, the N does not stand for news. For me the bottom line is, ESPN does entertainment well. The problem is that they mix all of the following on nearly every show: news and entertainment, rumor and entertainment, rumor and news, opinion and news, opinion and entertainment, star-worship and news, etc. Then to top it all off, it's done at a pace far to fast (careless/reckless) to be completely accurate and fair.
  18. The whole synthetic T thing had me hung up for a while until I did a little fact finding about it. (some of this was said by pebadger and xisxisxis, but it seems worth it if its a repeat) The CIR test looks for the ratio of carbon-12 to carbon-13. In nature, carbon-13 makes up about 1.100% of all carbon atoms. In natural T, carbon-13 makes up about 1.075% of all its carbon atoms. In synthetic T, carbon-13 makes up about 1.070% of all its carbon atoms. 5/1000 of a percent is small. To put it in batting average perspective, if the Brewers' collective batting average went up by 0.005 (in standard BA reckoning, that would be .00006), that would equate to one hit... for the team... EVERY THREE YEARS!!! While the science behind this testing is pretty solid, the minute differences that would result in a positive test versus a negative test are mind boggling (especially since scientists don't actually go around counting neutrons). Any sample change that could result in co-elution should be thought of as a major player in the story. When push comes to shove, ANY step outside the prescribed rules for handling a test is a HUGE deal. Caveat: I'm certain that pebadger and xisxisxis are far better at scientific interpretation and analysis than I am, so read their posts about CIR testing and how synthetic T is made.
