  1. The Hall of Fame will always be a lightning rod of sorts. I'm glad for a good, if overdue, decision being made. Beautiful article. Thank you for writing it. Thank you for shining a light on a life well-lived.
  2. There are two huge holes in our offense: CF against LHP (more than .100 ops below average) and 1B against LHP (more than .080 ops below average)( DH against LHP is probably the next on the list) (excessive parentheses are above average). Everything else on the roster grades out average or better. If Hiura had normal splits instead of reverse splits, then it would be a no-brainer to upgrade at CF. I really appreciate the article, and the data (especially against LHP supports it). Rowdy and Keston both grade out poorly on defense. Whether the eye-test agrees, I don’t know. If there was a guy who had great defense, could mash lefties, and cost an organizational 11 or lower prospect, then yes, Get that guy. But I get tied up on the emotional part of it. My kids LOVE Rowdy. Their first game in over a year (because I am rarely in WI) was Tuesday, when Rowdy’s home run was the main bright spot. So while Keston and Rowdy have their flaws, I love sharing moments with my kids. The moment will rarely be the World Series. But as long as the moments of jumping off the couch, screaming “Rowdybomb!!!” exist, I will be happy.
  3. Bell is having a career year. His career wRC+ is 118. That is average offensive output for a 1B. A lot of his value depends on how GMs are going to view his career in comparison to this year. I'd lean toward relying on the career numbers, and value him lower. Mancini has very similar things going on with his current year vs. his career norms. The same is true (but even more extreme) with Michael A. Taylor over in KC. I would love to add a 115 wRC+ bat and above average defense in CF, but his career average puts him down in Tyrone Taylor territory. All that WOULD put me in the camp of lower prospect cost for trades, however with the expanded playoff field, I fear a bidding war.
  4. Yeah. It's pretty strange. Five innings, one run, a bunch of strikeouts, and one mistake pitch is the Lauer I like.
  5. If he can do this and shave a few points off his K%, so that he has a chance at productive outs, that would be pretty dang nice.
  6. I hope that this is true. Baseball has so much variance that trying right now to figure out how to win in 2024 is a crapshoot. Don't get me wrong. I am greatly enjoying this thread, but having a fixed mindset about how to win in a post-Hader or post-Burnes world is foolishness. It wasn't long ago when I and the rest of this board would have called for David Stearns' head if he traded Hiura, Lutz, and Ray for anything less than a Cy Young winner with years of control.
  7. They must have a camera unplugged or something.
  8. Fastball velocities by start. They are trending slightly down.
  9. What's your resource for league average stats by position? I often want to know this, but rarely find a sortable database.
  10. I was thinking about this for a while. It may have cost a win or tens of thousands of dollars, but the Front Office might have made a very important statement about respecting players. It would be great if excellent baseball players want to come to Milwaukee because they know they'll be respected. Or maybe I'm naive to think that respect matters in a world of 8 and 9 figure contracts. Either way, I am thankful for the joy that Lo-Cain brought to baseball.
  11. I’m certainly not the first to say it here, but yeah, between Adames and maybe Rowdy, he may already have made the most impactful moves they will make this season. Also pretty crazy when you consider the bullpen was sitting with a 4.59 ERA (23rd) / 4.83 FIP (27th) when they sent out JPF & Rasmussen for Adames but has pitched to the tune of a 2.78 ERA (2nd) / 3.79 FIP (5th) since the trade. ERA being a full run better than FIP is pretty cool to see. Building around defense seems to have played well.
  12. djoctagone, can you give a refresher on what happens with 40-man roster moves in august? we'll probably be activating shaw, topa, and file. i imagine that shaw just gets dfa'ed. lets say we activate topa and dfa some other player. is that other player automatically a free agent? do the brewers retain control? is it different if the player has a certain amount of service time or a certain type of contract?
  13. JBJ was coming around. Then he slid over into LF and had an 0-fer. Maybe the solution is calling them all CF. (See post on page one)
  14. Does anyone know if vaccination exempts someone from contact tracing protocols? Perhaps Jace has declined the vaccine. No intent of controversy… I’m just hypothesizing about why it would be only Jace.
  15. Cain for Inciarte - straight up - would have sounded crazy at the beginning of this year. But the Braves may well end up not having to fulfill the Ozuna contract. Acuna got hurt. Cain would be better than their options. And not paying Cain would be a fantastic option for the Crew.
  16. A bit more context would certainly be appreciated. I second the request for context. Do you know it is false or do you think that the move is highly unlikely?
  17. I saw that SD was rumored to be shopping Hosmer. I'm sure that's all about getting under the luxury tax to be able to afford a different bigger contract. I'd be intrigued to see what else could be packaged in a JBJ-Hosmer swap. Maybe a third team. Maybe another change-of-scenery player each way?
  18. I think you are selling Marcano short a bit as a prospect, too. Ranking #5 in the Padres' stacked system is no small feat. Marcano would likely be #1 or #2 in the Brewers' system (ahead of Turang). He's legit. With Tatis, Machado, and Cronenworth all either locked up or controllable for quite a few years, the Padres have people to hold down the infield for a while. This is one where Marcano's value is probably a lot higher for most other teams than it is for the Padres.
  19. Why not Urias? He's not going to be a starting middle infielder before 2023 with Adames and Wong on the roster and maybe not even then depending on Wong's club option. Then the Brewers have Turang at SS in AA, he should be ready by 2023. They also just used a first round pick on Tyler Black, who is coming to pro-ball as an advanced hitter from college. He should also be knocking on the door at some point in 2023 as well. Urias is passable as a 3B in the vein of Gio Urshela or Jeimer Candelario, but most of the perennial contenders have a third basemen who brings more power to the table: Arenado, Bryant, Devers, Turner, Donaldson, Bregman, Rendon, Machado, Jose Ramirez, etc., meaning the Brewers probably don't view him as a long term answer at 3B. With four years of team control remaining, and a nice season under his belt he probably brings back the most talent for Milwaukee, and certainly more than Turang would. I have thought a lot about whether I could get to trading Urias. I think your points are very good. Here's where I am. 1. I agree that he isn't a prototypical 3B, but he is currently providing middle-of-the-pack production. 2. Perhaps he won't be the future 3b in MKE, but an offseason opens up way more roster flexibility to look at ways to get better long term production at 3B. 3. 1B is our glaring hole. If we trade Urias for a 1B, we open a hole at 3B. -- If Jace is the thing that fills either of these holes... he'd better stay hot. -- 4. I would consider Urias in a trade for Jose Ramirez. He's probably the only "available" player I can think of.
  20. With all the offensive frustration we've collectively expressed, I was a bit surprised that the Crew only showed up in this series at First Base. All the more reason to go out and spend for one of the four or five that would be good fits. (And for goodness sake, get Rowdy and Keston some AAA abs)
  21. For me, the thing about Turang is, I imagine that Adames and Urias will both be better than Turang during the Peralta-Woody-Burnes window. So if there's a way for Turang to be the lead in a deal for Mancini, Gallo, or Santana, count me in.
  22. My frustration is that it is tied to SUCH a specific thing. They are kind of stuck with some sort of tie-back to art deco styling. Don't get me wrong, I love art deco, but to have that design constraint and then also have the same colors as before... those limitations just seem like a recipe for a meh logo/uniform set. Maybe in a few years when the name stands on its own as the name of the team, it'll be easier to walk away from that styling. Who knows? Spiders would have been great, IMHO.
  23. I want the best lineup possible, but I also want Rowdy and Keston to get some regular ABs… One of them has to head for AAA or another team via trade.
