  1. Doubly infuriating when it's a Pacific Time team doing it to an Eastern or Central time team. I'm usually not for MLB stepping in and changing things, but in this case, it seems like they could come up with a quick rule about start times for games and time zones crossed by teams traveling after the game.
  2. Hoping for this... 1. Cain 2. Yelich 3. Moose 4. Braun 5. Yaz 6. Hiura 7. Aguilar 8. Davies 9. Arcia
  3. I'm pretty sure (according to JosephC's calculations) that tomorrow will be the day when Stearns is out of excuses for Hiura being in the minors. Can anybody think of a legitimate excuse that Hiura won't be in the starting lineup against Seattle's lefty on Tuesday?
  4. Is it to cynical to think that Cain will hit the DL on the same day that Hiura is safe from being Super Two? Perez and Gamel platoon in the outfield. Thames plays OF against a tough right-hander for Braun.
  5. Word is JJ's velocity was up significantly from the rusty day in Spring Training. Thanks for updating us. Wish JJ well for us. Let's get him to MKE soon.
  6. Am I correct in saying that the biggest negative in any of these cities is Fresno having a super small/limited airport?
  7. I learned something today. Thank you. To paraphrase FauxPelini's graduation speech, "If you are wrong about something, change your mind and then you aren't wrong anymore."
  8. I could see Aguilar getting another day just because he's in a mild slump and Counsell seems to highly value RHP/LHB matchups. I'll guess Thames Yelich Cain Shaw Miller Saladino Phillips - Edit: That didn't age well. Kratz
  9. I'd assume he'd go to the 60-day DL and open up a 40-man spot without being exposed to other teams.
  10. On the TV broadcast from last night's game, they mentioned MLB's upward vertical adjustment of the strike zone. I hadn't thought about connecting that with the launch angle thing until your post. It might be an interesting lesson in unintended consequences. MLB wants more balls in play. MLB raises the strike zone. Players realize launch angle elevation will help them hit jacks. Players K more as they swing upward.
  11. I've been mentally wrestling with this question all morning. Which is worse, harboring hatred or ruining someone's reputation? It's possible that Hader has moved on from the thoughts in his tweets. It is unlikely that the muckrakers and tweet-fakers have moved on from their ruinous desire.
  12. Briggs, I'm with you 1000%. I don't want thought police or speech police. I think the right take on this is the Lorenzo Cain take. My frustration is that in today's climate, many people would rather pigeonhole a person into one extreme view or another.
  13. I'm guessing brass spend the better part of the evening crafting a response (both PR and internal) to a certain other issue. Also, the Machado deal isn't finalized yet. So I don't think it's strange. Highly unfortunate, even sad, but not strange.
  14. This. Dialogue has become so broken. Polarization of many issues has become so severe that once a person espouses a view that is aligned with one "side" it is as if there can't be any nuance. I can be mad at Hader for his thoughts and words. I can also believe that MLB doesn't really have ground to stand on for a suspension or fine.
  15. That one seems to be fake, according to a number of twitter users.
  16. Jon Heyman This tweet from earlier this morning... Why call Diaz the Dodgers' top OF prospect. Isn't it widely agreed that Verdugo is their top OF prospect? Calling something what it isn't smacks of some Oriole smokescreen.
  17. [sarcasm]Plus, Dozier plays in one of the central divisions, so none of the writers or Yankees or dodgers or Phillies have ever heard of him.[/sarcasm]
  18. Nightengale and Heyman just don’t strike me as being the places where one finds valid and plausible trade information. They seem to be each other’s echo chamber. When Olney and Rosenthal report it, then I’ll perk up my ears.
  19. Thanks for couching your language. We are a trigger happy bunch. I have never been more excited for the last inning of an all star game. This thing has to be announced pretty quickly after that, right? Hopefully it is a 3-0 win for the NL that takes only 2.5 hours. NL pitchers throw a combined no-hitter and Yelich, Cain, and Aguilar each hit a jack.
  20. What does "the medicals" mean? Is it paperwork that their training staff reads? Do they send a guy out to Biloxi or CS to do a physical on a guy? What was the actual thing that made the Mets pull the plug on the Wilmer Flores crying trade? Does anyone know a factual answer on this? I have always wondered.
  21. If you go back through Domingo's major and minor league stats, there seems to be a bit of a correlation between his BB% and his ISO (SLG - AVG = ISO). He is taking a few walks in Colorado Springs (18%), but his power is even lower than it was in MKE (.088). And that with many games played in a park that should boost ISO numbers. CONFOUNDING!!
