  1. I'm not sure YuBet has zero trade value. I'd venture a guess that a Dodger trade would look like this: Yuni and minimal prospect for Carroll, with us paying Yuni and LAD paying JC.
  2. Is Garfield and Heckathorn a decent comparison?
  3. Not if his competition is Carlos Gomez vs. a right handed pitcher.
  4. Back in January, I doubt we could deal them anyone in our organization but Braun and get them to trade us Desmond straight up.
  5. I think the Nats will want to plug their CF hole immediately in a trade for Desmond. If they don't like Gomez, I don't think we can make a deal.
  6. I'd probably do Gomez, Komatsu, and one of McClendon/Heckathorn/Rivas/Scarpetta for Desmond. They get a CF for now and a 4th OF/potential CF that should stick in the future. They also get any pitcher in our minors other than Peralta/Thornburg. We can call up Boggs to play CF sparingly and provide a better bat for our bench than Gomez anyway.
  7. Question is, how much are we "hijacked" by the KROD trade? That is, are all five or so players on the list for the Mets to choose from excepmt from any other trade until the Mets decide they do/do not want them?
  8. I know that Nats are looking for a CF. For some reason, they strike me as one of the teams that might value Carlos Gomez more than others. If I am Doug, I'd offer Gomez + for Desmond, realizing the plus might be a substantial piece.
  9. Ian Desmond may be in play, Rosenthal is reporting. We are one of three teams he mentions that may be interested.
  10. I remember when the Yankees wanted Cameron from us when we were maybe going to try and get Swisher for him. That would have been a nice trade.
  11. Doug may have screwed up the Hardy thing, but I think it's more that Gomez was a horrible guy to target. Sending him down and retaining an extra year for somebody, even if you think its bush, should've gotten us good talent. Doug thought he had probably an excellent CF in Gomez. He missed, even though Gomez still has value. I like Doug's demotion of him, but he should have been able to get us an arm or two in that trade.
  12. We are so stupid. If we gave him more money, we should've had the condition be that he doesn't accept arby. Throw in another million if you have to. He didn't need to "finish" 20 games anyway for us, so it's like free money for him if we don't get picks back. What a stupid move. It's like somebody spending a TON of money on life insurance. Not the smartest investment imho.
  13. Green could go 20 for his next 20 and RR/DM wouldn't bring him up because he hasn't played in the majors before.
  14. It'll be SS only. I'd be very disappointed if it's not SS only actually.
  15. Sadly, each game we play that we choose to play without calling up Green lessens the chance he's brought up. And I just don't see us adding a 3B AND a SS. I think we add one of Furcal/Carroll at SS. McGehee better figure it out at third because I don't think we are going to do anything at that particular position this season.
  16. This isn't directed at you Game, more at everybody that worries about signing "one of Marcum/Greinke". I have seen countless posts referring to worry about signing "one of them". We will easily be able to sign one of them. I would guess Marcum would hardly break the bank to sign.
  17. Well, if the (second) worst scenario came about and he accepted, we'd have a heck of a trade chip in Axford and could then look into KROD closing next year and worrying about our 2013 closer at a later date (maybe Bradock by then).
  18. Quick KROD scenario: We are on the road. We are losing 3-2. We use KROD in the 8th inning and he successfully completes the inning for us. We fail to score in the top of the 9th. The game is over and we lost. Does this count as KROD finishing the game in terms of his contract?
  19. I really only want to add a SS and the cheaper of Carroll/Furcal at that. Neither appears to be in line to be even a "Type B" free agent, so compensation shouldn't be a whole lot. RR is showing he'll play Gamel some at third and Green appears to be ready. I'd hate to give up anything at all for a third baseman. Note too that Gamel probably can handle the corner outfield once a week if necessary and done against the with the rightpitcher/against the right lineup.
  20. Somewhat off topic, but not really....I saw Jimmy Rollins numbers today on ESPN. They aren't that great, but still solid. But I'm not thinking he'll break the bank given his age. What type of a contract do you guys think he'll get if he continues to put up the stats he's putting up this year?
  21. A war under 2 for a SS isn't that great. The way Hardy was struggling and Escobar was excelling in AAA, it was reasonable to give Escobar the rest of the season as the starter given we were out of contention. We could have kept JJ on the bench, but that would have arguably been worse. Arguably. He was given a shot to find his stroke at AAA and came back up later in the year.
  22. Ron kept saying "It's all about" and repeated "always" many times.
  23. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2011/06/catching-top-priority-for-giants-kottaras-available.html
  24. I think it'd be a extraordinarily poor move for a team to give the moon to the O's for a couple of moths of JJ, given that he can go stone cold as quickly as he can go red hot.
