  1. If you are injured a lot and make a lot of money, you have negative value. Otherwise you are telling me Dave Riske had positive value to us. He'd have helped us if he was healthy because he was pretty good. But he was hurt a lot and made a lot. So he had negative value.
  2. I keep hearing that Counsell will break down if forced to play a lot. I'm not convinced of it. I think it's worth testing to see how well he can handle a sizable workload anyway. And I don't hate YuBet as much as most. But I do feel a platoon would be best for the team.
  3. Is there any reason not to do a strict platoon with both Gomez/Morgan AND YuBet/Counsell?
  4. Is that correct End? I thought we just had him this year and next and then he's a free agent.
  5. Anyone still wondering if that Gomez for Beachy offer was out there?
  6. YB will be retained after playing slightly above expectations, as we will not have anyone ready in the system in 2012.
  7. Jarrod Washburn. I kid, I think. I am guessing somebody like James or some guy out of options.
  8. I don't necessarily see DeFelice as a longshot. To me, he's proven he's a MLB pitcher, though I realize he's coming off a long injury hiatus. My longshot might be Mike Rivera to not only make the team but play quite a bit at catcher. I just am not sold on Kottaras or Nieves, so I could see Rivera outperforming them in spring and playing quite a bit while Lucroy mends/learns to play every day.
  9. We still have Betancourt though, so we still have about fifteen games to make up on the Cardinals since he is so atrocious.
  10. Doug likes to "buy high". Even though I do need to give him props for the Greinke and Marcum trades. We will not have the forsight to sign Marcum before he gets much more expensive. Take the risk and extend him now or watch him cost 4/65 to extend after the season.
  11. That's what I was thinking too JB. Pitching and/or prospects and Young for Fielder. That's the only way I could see Young being added.
  12. Texas will eat a large portion of Young's contract to move him. Doubtful we'd even be paying him ten million per year. Probably more like 3/24.
  13. Wouldn't be a bad addition, especially if Doug has an inkling that he'll be unable to sign Weeks longterm. Then we could use Young next year as well.
  14. I don't get this whole, "we have very little margin for error and a guy like Betancourt/Kotsay could be the difference". There's not a perfect team in baseball. Look at the Yankees. They are probably going to be in the playoffs again, yet they have a poor four and five in their rotation. The Giants offense is not even one of the top half in baseball. Every team has some holes that they'd like to improve upon. We'll be ok.
  15. Unless it's Wade Boggs, we might as well open the roster spot and be Boggs-less.
  16. Rosenthal tweets that we are close to signing Kotsay. So we can now pencil him in. EDIT: Fixed the links.
  17. I'd rather sign Felipe Lopez and hope he can play SS decent than sign any of the guys left or that have been available since after Thanksgiving.
  18. I really would like to sign Washburn as our sixth starter. I'm keen on Rogers being in AAA all year and also in keeping Manny in a steady consistent bullpen role. That said, we need a sixth starter. Hopefully Washburn is at least being discussed.
  19. What would people think about signing Jerry Hairston to be our SS. He actually can hit pretty well and field. He's 35 I believe, but here's a guy that I think can be a solid starter for us as a stopgap. I have to think, if the plan is to keep Gamel in AAA for another year which is a whole nuther discussion, we will be signing one more infielder to be on the 25 man roster. I really think Hairston would be the best guy.
  20. Can he play CF decently still? I know I don't value defense as much as most, but is he at least better than Hart there? He might be a good option to have for a million bucks. I'd think his savvy and shear talent might still be there in a limited role.
  21. That's possibly great news on what the Nats offered. I had been hoping to do 5/100, provided that was after his current deal and not simply buying out these final two years.
  22. I just find it odd that those that promote players through the minors, that offer MLB contracts, that fill out MLB lineups, and that complete MLB transactions see something in this player. I gotta say I'll rooting for him since everyone here hates him. But I'll preface that by saying I won't make stubborn and foolhardy posts in support of him.
  23. That might turn out to be a good deal for us TLB, but I maintain that a good negotiator from the team's side should be able to get him to commit to signing here for less. You (or his agent) can point to his WAR from last season as a reason he's well worth that contract. I (or the team) have many more things to point to for why that is an overpay.
  24. I just can't believe this guy was able to play high school baseball, much less start MLB games. I'd take my thirteen year old little brother over Betancourt in a backyard baseball game. He is that bad. Just had to chime in with something on par to what is being said in this thread...
  25. I'd have a hard time going over ten million a year for four years based upon one healthy and completely good season. I know that's the minimum it'll cost though. If Rickie misses a third of the year this year due to injury, he's going to gravely hurt his free agent contract. He'd be wise to sign for 4/40 if he likes what we have going here.
