  1. Is that OF from Indiana U still out there? He was ranked very highly but not sure I've seen him picked yet...
  2. Are Nick Delmonico and Alex Dickerson still out there? It'd be nice to get a good "midwest" bat if a good one is still around for our next pick.
  3. I read somewhere that Olney pressed Melvin who finally admitted a slight chance that Jungmann is up with the Brewers THIS season.
  4. I think Lou Ely is saying we should use the AL games as a chance to rest Braun or Prince from the field. I must say I could live with that. They deserve a breather.
  5. Wilson actually has done plenty of good for us in the few chances he's had so far. I know his numbers in the past suggest he's not a great fit for our bench, but for the little he's played so far he's done quite well. Might as well keep him around for now and see if it can continue a little while longer.
  6. I think there's a difference between the stats he's putting up, and the guys so often thrown around as AAAA players. His numbers now are absolutely insane.
  7. If someone would post his AAA stats this year, you'd agree with adding him. And no I am not his little brother....
  8. This guy is just raking in AAA for Arizona's club. I had thought the guy was in his thirties by now but he's not even thirty. They've already called up Burroughs as their reclamation project, so I don't know if I see Pena getting a shot there. Might this be a guy to take a look at as a power bat for the bench (and someone that could start a few games next year when we give Gamel a breather)?
  9. Josh Wilson has had two pretty good at-bats his last two times up. I know he's not the answer, but I wouldn't mind giving him a start against Florida.
  10. Hardy is an upgrade DHonks, but he's nothing special. I'm not going to get baited into the same tired arguement you are initiating. JJ would be a little better for us than YuBet, but nothing that wonderful. I don't see a ton of value in Komatsu/Heckathorn. You could insert two 7-15 type prospects in our barren system if you think they are going to be great. It would be a slight upgrade that might get us one more win that we need.
  11. How do you guys feel about using more pitchers than necessary so you can get position players into the game or pinch hitting opportunities. In other words, is it a better idea to let Estrada pitch the 6-9 innings if he's doing ok so you don't have to utilize extra bullpen arms. Or is it more important to get your bench pinch hitting opportunities and an inning or two in the field?
  12. I doubt Reyes is even on our radar. Hardy does make some sense. It'd probably take one position and one pitching prospect. Maybe something like Komatsu and Heckathorn would get it done.
  13. I really think our bullpen is going to be ok. Not sure I'd add anyone. I'm fine going to war with who we have. I'd like to upgrade at SS though and have Gamel up at the end to give us a good bat off the bench. That's about it though.
  14. Thank Ted. Might be some good blood to have in the organization. I'm surprised Mondesi didn't have a little longer career, but he probably played long enough as is.
  15. Did I read this right on the Dominican Brewers? Do we have Raul Mondesi on the team? How old is he and does he have anything left?
  16. Furcal makes a lot of sense both for this year and beyond. I'd think we'd offer him a deal in the offseason that is equal to anybody else. I really think we need to sign this guy and hopefully we can still sign both Marcum and Greinke as well. If we go with Gamel, I think we can fit it all in the budget.
  17. Do people think he'll be ready to assume a 5th rotation slot by the start of next year? If so, I'd love to be able to free up some money and maybe help cure our SS position with a Wolf trade. Just wondering a little on how Rivas is progressing and what the thought is that he'd be ready for next season. There is also a real chance that he's the main piece we deal for a SS by the deadline too. Clearly, Rogers won't be attractive to teams at this point.
  18. Gomez was a longterm idea. Choosing Escobar over Hardy was a long term idea. I believe after realizing Prince was going to leave, adding Greinke and Marcum with a plan on extending both was a long term idea. I am not saying he hasn't done stop gap moves. All his moves haven't been stop gaps, obviously. And I just don't think we'll go stop gap at SS next year.
  19. Nobody is saying we won't still have use for Wolf/Narveson. Filling +#%!%@ like at SS isn't always as easy as, "just sign this guy". Doug doesn't strike me as a guy looking to stopgap at SS this offseason. I think he'll obtain someone for 3-5 years that he'll look to as a starter. If we aren't able to sign someone at the Furcal/Hardy level, I fully expect a trade to fill the position rather than sign a Scutaro-type and live year by year. Whether that's the right move is up for debate, but you do have to give quality to get quality if the top free agents choose to take more money or choose a different location.
  20. We might be able to dangle Wolf or Narveson for a Yuniel Escobar type SS in the offseason. I am not advocating this necessarilly, but I do think Doug will get us a top 16ish SS one way or another in the offseason.
  21. Isn't Bengie Molina the obvious answer for them?
  22. I'm surprised Estrada fell off the face of the earth. I liked him better than Kendall, and Jason looks like he'll have many more years in him than Estrada did.
  23. There's a reason that one train of thought is to have veterans on the bench in the majors handling utlity roles and younger guys should be playing everyday in AAA. Not sure how this adds to the discussion, but thought it was relevant in a way to this thread.
  24. I don't know if this guy can play short at all, but if he can, I think we may have missed the boat not trying to get him when it looked like Texas would trade him and get the short end of the stick in a deal. He's having an all-star type season for Texas. I know he's getting older and is owed some pretty decent money the next few years, but oh how he'd fit perfectly in our lineup.
