  1. Kid? That comment shows how under the radar the Nats really are. Michael Morse was one of the premier sluggers in the NL last year. He hit .303/.360/.550 with 31 HR and 95 RBI, and he's absolutely torched the Brewers. He's the reason they aren't interested in Fielder. They moved Morse to 1B full time. He's no kid either. He turns 30 in March. Briggs, I am talking shortstops here. I forget the kids name that they like enough to dangle Desmond. I realize how good Morse was this year.
  2. I think I'd take that trade Paul, though I'd rather take it with a first round pick as well.
  3. Nate, there are good players found in every round of every professional draft. Yes it's easier with a first round pick. Yes it's more likely if we throw a wad of cash at a kid that slips due to money. But also, yes, you can find very good talent in the second round without throwing a boatload of money at some "name" prospect.
  4. Does anyone want to place a bet that we DON'T sign one of these three to a contract in excess of 100 million over the offseason: Greinke, Fielder, Reyes???
  5. The Nats like some kid they have there already, that's why we saw all the Ian Desmond trade rumors. The Cards supposedly are already working something with Furcal and may even have a handshake deal in place. Phils will resign Rollins. The Angels have Aybar who is quite good and cheaper. I'd think they look elsewhere. Giants and Mariners to me make the most sense.
  6. I'd like to start Mike Fiers. For one game, I think he'd throw the Cards off.
  7. If the Cards were smart, they'd have saved Soup's opening pitch for the game Marcum starts...to get in his head the worst case scenario of throwing under ninety with a lack of control.
  8. Prince Fielder to the Northside....I'll get the worry started.
  9. I gotta give you a Keyshawn "Come awn Man" for this statement. A little over the top.
  10. Theoretically, I would think that big market teams should be AL teams. It's gotta be on average at least another 5 million you have to add to your payroll to pay a decent DH, when the NL teams don't have to do that.
  11. The Phillies will give Rollins whatever offer we would make, and at that point he'd just stay with his team.
  12. Why do you think we'd be selling high on Marcum? I am guessing teams will be well aware of his last several starts and maybe playoff teams (aka anyone looking to deal for veteran pitching) will be worried about him becoming worthless for them after 200 or less innings next year. As I said a page or so back, Marcum's trade value will be much less than several here would like to believe.
  13. I hope he does leave and resign with the Yankees for more money. That would more than likely mean the Yanks would look to trade rather than overspending on free agents to fill other rotation holes. My hope is to win a trade with them for Wolf or Marcum (hopefully Wolf would do).
  14. Too many stats being thrown around here to answer a simple question. The answer is basically, we get six solid inning from our starter and then go Saito, KROD, Ax. Hawkins likely would be the first guy up after this type of a rotation if a game should reach the 10th or 11th inning. His time will come. Other than that, it looks like Loe is gonna be the "6th inning guy" based merely on when I've noticed him warming up and close to getting the call.
  15. Anyone wonder if Ryan Howard's injury is weighing on him a little bit?
  16. Somewhat off topic, but I think the addition of Reyes represents the only way DM is willing to go status quo at 1st and 3rd. Otherwise, I think it's pretty certain he'll spend valuable money or trade chips to upgrade one of the corner infield spots, more than likely at first base. If Reyes is in the fold, I think our infield is set for next year (once Hairston is resigned too).
  17. MLB network is doing lots of good stuff...probably 50/50 cards/brewers coverage
  18. What are we thinking the rotation will be?
  19. For me, it's a successful season. Not that I'm complacent. But the prospects we gave up is well worth the ride we are on. And more importantly long term, we are going to be able to win more games in the future than our talent suggests given this experience. Meaning, hypothetically, if we lose Fielder and KROD and return everyone else while adding nobody, I still think this experience will give us a great shot at playoffs and beyond next year.
  20. Jumping ahead while knocking on wood. Three part question Who would you have as our DH in the WS? Do you think we'll have the same player DH'ing each game? What do you think RRR would end up doing at DH?
  21. Does it go 2-3-2 or 2-2-1-1-1?
  22. One thing not mentioned that I wouldn't mind some comments on. It's really cool that none of the East teams from either league are in the "final four". Anyone know the last time that has happened?
  23. He has an out clause, and rumors seem to be hinting that he'll opt out. Harold Reynolds, for whatever it's worth, thinks he'll sign with an NL team. Mark Attanasio loves the guy. If Fielder walks....... (I want you guys to keep the thread going from here)...
  24. I'd go with Gamel or I'd see how much the White Sox will give up to take on Dunn. If I can get Escobar at SS and a nice arm to take on that contract, I at least consider it. But I am more of a gambler than most on here and think he can bounce back in the NL.
  25. I really don't want a defensive first baseman. Hopefully whomever we play at first can handle the easy to defend position well enough. I care much more about having a big bat at that particular position.
