  1. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2011/08/nationals-dont-intend-to-pursue-prince-fielder.html The big news from the link above is about Fielder not going to the Nats in all liklihood, but let's not focus on that. It mentions again that the Nats will be looking to fill CF. I'd love to sell high for once and we could do this on Schaefer and buy low on Desmond in some sort of a swap. The deal could certainly get bigger. I think we are fine for a few years with our Cargan Mormez platoon and think this offseason will be a great time to deal Schaefer and fix SS more longterm. Would a deal like this (that could have parts added) be of interest?
  2. Now it's reported it isn't the Nats. If we hadn't woken up and obtained SPs in the form of Greinke/Marcum like we did and were hovering around .500 again, I am guessing we'd take on this contract for the next couple of seasons. My guess is maybe Toronto claimed him.
  3. Anyone find out why Green was pulled last night?
  4. Fiers seems like he'd do a good job, but he's not on the forty and just pitched last night. 5-0 in five AAA starts.
  5. Estrada was a longshot to make the team out of spring training. Melvin gave every opportunity to some kid that pitched in AA last year to hold the fort down until Greinke was ready. The name of the player escapes me, but there was a kid that Melvin was hoping would claim the spot over Estrada out of spring training. ETA: Might have been Rivas but it might have been somebody else.
  6. Overbay has just been released by Pittsburgh after being DFA'd several days ago. Pittsburgh will owe him his full 5 million this year and he can sign with anyone for just the minimum now. Has he played sporadically at a corner OF spot? Heck, Josh Wilson was able to do it. I'd like to get his bat on our bench for the minimum if we can somehow have it make sense...
  7. He'd be a nice bat for the bench. I know Gamel may make him redundant, but if we really have no faith in Mat as a bench bat option, Lyle could be a guy we look at. I just don't see how he fits though.
  8. Any chance of Stetter or Parra getting back by late August? I really like Loe/Hawkins/Saito in the 6th-7th with KROD in the 8th and Ax in the 9th. I can care less about getting a lefty in the pen. We have a very strong bullpen as is and I trust these guys can handle these innings against righties or lefties. If you can get a good loogy really cheap, fine. But I contend this bullpen is already a major team strength and don't see any reason to give up much for a loogy.
  9. Without analyzing his numbers in detail, I have always thought of Wandy as like a Randy Wolf. It's not out of the question to pay a guy like that 12 million per year, but most teams don't want to that.
  10. I'll consider the trade Nievas for Lopez in my head. Yes, we win that one.
  11. Yeah, I could see taking on Rios, even if he was hitting like this, if we never got Morgan and had Gomez/Dickerson like we all envisioned. But I'd much prefer Dunn as the bad contract we take on to get better talent in the deal.
  12. Ironically on Jack Z, he probably had multiple opportunities to deal with Doug and he never did, likely because he tried fleecing us. Depending upon which deals he turned down, I wonder if he regrets not making quite a few deals with Doug.
  13. I'd give Taylor Green a shot but there is a zero percent chance of that.
  14. I'd much prefer Dunn to Rios.
  15. Eduardo Escobar apparently is young, but his minor league numbers seem very pedestrian to me. Looks like a #8 hole hitter, though again he's young and could improve. I guess my point is that to me he's hardly a sweetener that would have me jumping for joy.
  16. Mark A doesn't strike me as a guy that will give up more talent if the other team picks up salary for him. He seems more like the type that will pay the bad salary to get more in return for the Brewers.
  17. Can't we basically have Rios for free? So it'd be like Gamel for just Thornton?
  18. Can we please make a move with more of a future-ring to it? Especially if we are giving up guys like Green and Gamel?
  19. I will get blasted for this, but what about taking on Adam Dunn's contract and really getting a ton from CWS in doing so? He sure was good for the Nats and in the NL in general. He could be our 1B after Prince leaves. And we can maybe do a Gamel straight up for one of Ramirez/Beckham IF we take on Dunn's deal. Thoughts?
  20. Desmond makes sense given we will need a SS the next several years. That is, if you buy that he'll hit for you. I know Doug is probably only thinking about this year, but Desmond can be had in a buy-low rate right now at a position of supreme need and importance. It would be extremely wise to put an offer in to the Nats for him.
  21. I'd feel ok about SS and 3b with Wilson and Green holding the fort down most of the time.
  22. I actually think Wilson fits really well into Counsell's role next year. Maybe we could talk him into going down until September.
