  1. I've been thinking 4/40 for a while. Not sure this Uggla contract changes things either way.
  2. I meant 20 not 29. The nine key is by the zero obviously. Oops.
  3. I see no reason we can't get Marcum resigned at ten million a year and Greinke resigned at 29 million a year. Both would probably accept that and the Brewers will offer that (at least that).
  4. Off topic somewhat, but what is the ceiling of that kid we drafted a couple of years ago (Josh Prince might be his name) and how far away is he?
  5. Love the research here. I don't have a lot to add, except that we'll be relying on talented but young arms and a talented old one in Saito. Being able to put the youngsters in spots where they can succeed and limit Saito's innings should make us have a great pitching staff and not just a great starting rotation.
  6. I too wanted Cappy to return...and never say never... But I'll always fondly remember you as my favorite piece of the Diamondback trade in which we fleeced them. I'll remember you as a guy that helped bring Brewer baseball to respectability after years of emptiness due in part to your emergence as an upper tier starting pitcher. Your pickoff move is obviously brilliant too. I'm glad you are recovered after a few very rough years and find it encouraging that some quality options appear to await you. Best of luck!
  7. The Orioles are looking hard at Kevin Gregg, who I think is a below average closer and a bit costly and older. I know it won't happen, but I gotta believe the O's would have a TON of interest in obtaining both Fielder and Axford from us. I'd love to be able to get Adam Jones as a starting point in a deal for those two. Then sign Derrick Lee. And I know we discussed a Fielder-Jones deal a week or two ago in a thread, but not really around Axford (for whom it appears Baltimore would probably have a ton of interest in).
  8. With Saito, Hawkins, and Braddock still in the back end of the bullpen and many believing Braddock was the future closer for us less than a year ago, might it be wise to max out and sell high on Axford now. After signing Saito today, I have very little worry about our bullpen, especially the backend, even if Axford weren't in the picture. I doubt we make a move of Axford and don't really know what we could get, but I do think we could afford it and potentially would not lose much at the back end of the bullpen while being able to strengthen another area of our team.
  9. While he maybe can't play CF, I swear some posters here think that there are a grand total of seven human beings alive on planet earth that can play center field.
  10. This is true. I know they were looking to get Masterson back from Cleveland but were rebuffed.
  11. Ha ha. No, I did not mean blue font. But I also don't know Reyes' situation. Probably should have just kept my mouth shut on that potential offer. While it won't happen anyway, I guess a part of me A) always liked Reyes B) hates our current SS situation C) remembers Wolf's first half D) thinks Wolf's value to this team is not as high as it was a couple weeks ago. Combining all of these factors, I just thought I'd throw this hyporthetical out there.
  12. Boston maybe would be interested in Hawkins and Gomez for Cameron and Scutaro. Would that be enough salary savings for them to make a two for two trade is the big question.
  13. Tony Sweet, I'd love to get Reyes. I am guessing Reyes for Randy Wolf would interest them. That would mean we'd have to resign and be able to count on Cappy. Would Reyes and a rotation subbing in Cappy for Wolf leave you more confident than Betencourt at short with Wolf in our rotation? This is assuming a straight up Reyes for Wolf trade would work...
  14. It would be interesting, if not ideal, to see what would happen if Gomez gets injured in spring training. Is it just "next man in" with Dickerson/Boggs, or do they think about moving Hart to CF and playing Gamel in right?
  15. I wouldn't mind adding Scotty Po if he can still handle CF somewhat decently. Also, if Felipe Lopez could handle a bench role, I liked him when he was here. I don't think I'd really add to the pitching staff outside of trying to resign Cappy. The loser of Cappy/Narveson should be able to help our bullpen quite a bit.
  16. My guess would be Hart, Escobar, Braddock. Gamel goes to right field. We'd need a SS obviously. Parra hopefully can fill Braddock's role. Loser of Cappy/Narveson for the fifth rotation slot becomes our other lefty in the bullpen. ETA: If they need a starter coming back, it'd have to be Narveson. I'd be very happy if he were one of the three big leaguers we send their way if we indeed have to send three their way.
  17. Dare I say that four years of McGehee is slightly more valuable than two years of Nolasco and that Florida would need to throw in a sweetener???
  18. I had thought for about six months now that McGehee might be the one shipped to help our rotation. I hope Melvin's at least floated his name out there. I'd be interested in hearing what teams would give up for him.
  19. I think Gamel fits with us really well. Prince is gone after the season. If Gamel is still with us in spring training, I am almost certain he won't be shipped. At that point, you deliver him this message: "Mat, Prince is gone after this season. You will fit in either at 1B, 3B, or in the corner OF. Show your dominance at AAA and continue to work defensively at one of these said positions. We may deal Prince by the deadline, and then you get an everyday job in Milwaukee. We may keep Prince until the season is complete, but when he leaves, as long as you are hitting like we know you can, you'll be an everyday player in Milwaukee in 2012."
  20. I am not sure about Hawkins. If he bounces back, he's a darn good bullpen arm. I am also wondering if we need his leadership and experience back there given how young we are going to be in the bullpen. Axford, Braddock, Loe, McClendon, Parra, maybe Narveson....you get my drift. It might be better for us to keep Hawkins (not at the expense of not getting Blanton, but maybe this is the wrong year to "dump" a guy like Hawkins' contract). It might be wise to seek another way of making a Blanton trade fit.
  21. Right, but every GM in the league would like Fielder in the middle of their lineup too. Especially ones that have money to keep him.
  22. Would Mike Minor be under our control for six years or just five? I think I'd almost rather have him for six than Garza for three or Shields for four, in a Cain plus trade.
  23. I think it'd take more than Axford, and I fear the Rays would demand Gamel too for either. I am actually surprised Axford's name hasn't been floated in rumors for one of these two. We surely have what's projected to be a pretty strong bullpen and could afford losing Ax. Braddock, after all, was probably pegged to be our closer a year ago anyway. I would not trade Axford AND Gamel for either, but I know many here would. I think we end up signing Pavano for better or worse to make this all moot anyway.
  24. Does anybody think the Yankees might make a run at trading for Prince. I realize they have Posada at DH, but for a world series contender year in and year out, is his bat that good at the position. And he's pretty old. Maybe a longshot, but I could see them possibly moving away from Posada to make a big splash and trade for Prince. I'd want Montero and Joba. We then could peddle a catcher to the Marlins in a Garza or Shields deal.
  25. I have a feeling that, whatever Doug is willing to offer, will be his high offer for either Shield or Garza. In better words, I see Doug making the same exact and his best offer for either pitcher, allowing TB to choose which one they'd rather deal.
