  1. Reyes signing also imho makes it more likely we go with Green and Gamel, which I advocate doing anyway. Keeping the price down at first and third for the next few years should mean we maybe can do a Reyes deal
  2. I'd feel ok with letting Fiers/Perralta battle for a rotation spot if we can get value for one of Marcum/Wolf.
  3. I thought it was more Gamel for Escobar centered talks...
  4. We have flexibility with our current roster. We should be signing anything of value. We have trade chips galore, but not for dominant players, but we can go any number of ways and it'd be smart to spend princes money on anything of valuable trade to plug holes.
  5. I'd like Lowrie and he'd bump Barmes to being my personal top option. Just wish he was more durable.
  6. Jason Bay would be given away by the Mets. I'd much rather sign Cuddyer and trade either Hart or Gamel (whomever won't play first base). My outside the box idea: Sign Ramirez and trade Taylor Green to Toronto for the declining Kyle Drabek. The Canadien would have to play second for Toronto but could probably do it.
  7. I like the idea of adding Cuddyer and Barmes to our lineup. No reason to spend a hundred million this offseason.
  8. I'd listen to offers for Axford. I'd have to be pretty blown away though or at least close to blown away. Otherwise he may have the same value after next season and maybe we can chase the pennant with him again. If nothing else, I'd offer KRod arby and if he somehow accepts, then we can revisit this option.
  9. Unless our brass knows/thinks Marcum is going to be bad this year, I agree we are selling him short too much because of his post-season. That said, we should be telling teams Wolf is available for the right price in an effort to sell high and possibly cut some payroll to be used elsewhere.
  10. Fiers has almost no value. Schafer is a C prospect. This would be more like Peralta/Gindl/One of the first round pitchers from last year and maybe the Jays would listen. Escobar is one of the best SS in the league. I laugh at your Fiers comment. And a good handful of teams will prefer Schafer and his CF potential to that of a tiny corner OF (as long as we are in "putdown mode" for brewers prospects).
  11. Sure they do. They have CF depth, starting pitching depth, and desired Canadian prospects. For instance, Fiers/Schaefer/Canadian prospects for Escobar.
  12. I expect the following... 1) Gamel starts at 1B 2) Green starts at 3B 3) McGehee backs up 1B and 3B (maybe even 2B in a pinch) 4) Hairston is resigned 5) Yunel Escobar is obtained from Toronto to man SS 6) All starters and bullpen members (save KRod) are retained
  13. I don't mind Cuddyer for 3/20 if we can trade Hart...
  14. 1 in 3. And I mean that quite honestly. I can see basically a fifty percent chance of all of your questions being answered positively or negatively for us ultimately.
  15. I'll one up you and ask that our super defensive SS can also handle half of the CF duties, enabling us to play a lesser defensive CF with an awesome stick like Kotsay there most of the time.
  16. Ian Desmond remains a good buy low candidate at SS. Controllable I believe for 4-5 more years. Some here will love the idea and some here will hate the idea. Such is life.
  17. I for one hope Doug and Mark learn something from Ted Thompson up north of them in Green Bay. That is, patience and believe in your guys, and develop your own AMD let them play. In other words, lets let some of these AAA guys get a shot at major roles next year.
  18. When we are looking at losing Fielder and likely a decent sized downgrade at first base offensively, we are not going to be in any position to put an above average defensive cf that is a slap hitter in right.
  19. The easiest way to about this off-season, and maybe the smartest, is to do the following 1. Sign Reyes and let prince walk 2. Go with Gamel/Green/McGhee combo at first and third 3. Resign as many guys as we can afford (Hairston, bullpen, etc) 4. Work on Greinke extension 5. Complete just one proactive trade (Hart, Marcum, Wolf)
  20. One thing to remember is that our players liked playing for Ron a lot. Even if there is a shrewder manager out there that may have done some things the way many on here would have preferred, enjoying playing for your manager is worth wins in and of itself.
  21. Put Lawrie at third and answer how we'd do in the postseason
  22. Greinke was not the X factor we needed him to be. Even if Marcum implodes as is, if Greinke pitches closer to the ace he's supposed to be, we're not in this position talking now.
  23. How good do you guys think Greinke is and how important going forward? We should have had at least two "aces" for this series and we clearly didnt with Zack. Lots of you want to throw "Princes money" at Zack and extend him this offseason. Do we wanna go a hundred K or more on this guy?
  24. I think Hart has MVP qualities. I know some of you think "sell high" if it even is for him, but man the guy can be good and maybe he steps up two notches once Prince departs.
  25. As much as I'm confounded my Marcum's total collapse his last 7 starts, we don't win the division and may not make the postseason if we have 2 of Narveson, Estrada, Capuano, Rogers, Peralta, or Rivas filling out the #4-5 spots in the rotation. No, I wanted Cappy back cheap like we could have done.
