  1. Well, after obtaining Marcum and let's say we sign Pavano hypothetically, it should enable Doug to not insist on major league ready starting pitching for Fielder. Just another side dynamic of this Marcum deal.
  2. I just think Rodriguez has a "liklihood" of being a pretty good #4. That to me is a little different than ceiling. I actually think the guy will be a pretty good #4, again different from thinking he'll at best be a #4. I think this kid is going to get there. And that should have value to us.
  3. As long as Lawrie, Odorizzi, Jeffress, Rodgers, and Rivas are still with our organization, I am fine with anything we do this off season.
  4. JB, we've already done the 2 vs 3 arguement over Floyd. There are a lot of us that thinks he's a two. Let's just not go there. The bigger issue is I'm not seeing how we get a #2 starter without trading a few top notch farm guys, and even still I doubt we are a playoff team. That said, I'm hoping Doug saves Mark's money this off season as we look to 2012.
  5. Shoot, I had wanted a Prince for Gavin Floyd trade. I really am not seeing how we get a #1/#2 starter without giving up the farm now. And trading prospects should not be done, as I doubt we are a playoff team anyway. I hope Doug is smart through the off-season. I have a horrible feeling we are one of the two teams rumored to be hard after Kevin Correija.
  6. That stinks. Gavin Floyd was my best hope for getting a #2 starter without getting rid of our top farm talent. I'm almost ready to punt on 2011. I really don't want to trade our prospects, as I don't think adding a Greinke is going to make us a playoff team. If Prince really is undealable, I guess I'd explore a McGehee trade but otherwise just save our money and rebuild for 2012.
  7. Not a bad idea. Might help us trade him too, if we so choose.
  8. Might have to make some sort of a deal to trade up or trade something to a team that would pick him earlier for us...http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_main.aspx?sport=MLB&id=5523
  9. We have no leverage with teams with Prince anyway.
  10. Since we might strike out on trading Prince, let's move to what might be our next best trading option...Casey McGehee. What are the five or so teams that might have the most interest in Casey or have the biggest need for a 3B?
  11. Yeah, there's not a manager in baseball that wouldn't take Prince Fielder on their team or want him on their team. Same for Adam Dunn I'm sure. I am betting Roenicke would probably take Dunn and say Gavin Floyd over Fielder not only for next season but for future seasons as well. Take a look at this lineup Weeks Cain Braun Dunn Hart Gamel Lucroy Escobar Starters Gallardo Floyd Pitcher for McGehee Wolf Narveson This team no doubt competes for the playoffs this year and beyond and is very fiscally responsible as well.
  12. I am just a little torn on how we proceed here, as I am sure Doug is. I guess I'd like to trade Prince, but not for too little. I just think he's gone after this year and would rather get something fairly good in trade vs. take the picks after the season. I am one of the ones that would take Gavin Floyd for Prince if we can get that offer on the table. I also really don't want McGehee or Gamel as our first baseman of the future, if that's what Doug is thinking. That would seem to lead to two other ideas. 1) We could trade McGehee as our first big off-season move for a #3 type of starting pitcher. All of a sudden, there is not that incredible need for a starting pitcher like there is now, so teams wouldn't be able to low ball us for Prince. Just a theory I have I guess that trading McGehee before Prince might lead to us getting better offers for Prince. The other option would be to go out and sign Dunn for 4/60. I frankly would like for him to be our first baseman for a contract like that. Does signing Dunn lead to improved offers for Prince, or lesser offers? I am not sure. I guess I am saying that if I am Doug, maybe try and deal McGehee for pitching first and get yourself involved a bit with Dunn. Doing one or both of these things might lead to better offers and more suiters for Prince.
  13. Maybe we should be proactive and try to sign Dunn. He could play (badly) the corner OF. It's a long shot, but he's a guy I'd be happy to have as our 1B for the next four years if and when Prince is gone. Just thinking out loud here.
  14. Yeah, I saw that on mlbtr. I guess maybe Burnett won't be an option. It still could depend on how much NYY needs to pay Lee to get him to be a yankee. If it's 20M more than they are thinking/hoping, Burnett could still be a guy they want to dump. But I admit it might be less likely than I had thought.
  15. I also see no reason to expand the deal to involve Jeffress and Beckham. Fielder for Floyd works straight up for me. Get it done Doug, and that.
  16. I get the feeling he wants to play down south, probably in Flordia as has been reported, even for less money. It might take one year and twelve million to get him to Milwaukee.
  17. I just have a hard time having one ounce of an issue if Doug can trade Fielder for three years of a cost controlled pitcher that is at worst a three and more than likely a number two starter.

  19. Article from a Whitesox fan perspective on trading Gavin Floyd. http://www.examiner.com/c...r-return-for-gavin-floyd
  20. If Konerko walks, the Sox would appear to be a real option. I wonder when they'll get another update on Peavey's status. I'd probably start at an offer of Fielder, Parra, and Stetter for Floyd. Stetter is basically a throw-in there that they might like as a potential loogy. Seems like it's something for them to seriously think about.
  21. I don't think it'd be a trade due to constraints. I just don't think they are going to "want" to pay Burnett after paying their top three starters. I also don't think you'd hear anything until Petitte and Lee are officially added. I think they'll try and dump him. We'll just agree to disagree. No worries...
  22. Still lots a 1B's that have to find a home. I am guessing we don't hear much until the winter meetings. It might be a good time to approach Prince about the courtesy talk of an extension one final time. Keep the rumors on hold until the winter meetings. Not like we'd get a good deal for him this early in the off season anyway. We have to wait this one out a bit at a minimum.
  23. As long as we don't give Wolf's contract to Pavano, I have no problem passing on Washburn. If we decide to throw Wolf money and years to Pavano though, I'll have a major problem with Melvin's line of thinking.
  24. There's talk of JJ getting non-tendered. Not sure if it'll happen or not. If it does happen, then Doug can non-tender Gomez and argue "Well it was a change of scenery for both players that didn't work out, but we did save more money than Minnesota did and that."
  25. I suppose we'll wait and see. I think hatred for the Yankees is justified, but the fact they WILL put that much money into their rotation (CC, CL, AP, and AJB) I believe is unjustified. I don't think they'll enter the season with all of those guys. I think they'll look to dump AJB. Can they afford all four? Sure, maybe, probably. Are they going to want to get rid of AJ's salary after adding AP and CL? You better believe it (in my opinion).
