  1. I have a feeling brewer fans are going to regret their position to turn down Beachy (even at the cost of LoCain) within the next two years.
  2. I think he almost beat out Claudio Vargas for the fifth spot in the rotation his first spring as a Brewer. Vargas, I believe, got the job because he was more "prized" in coming from that trade and had actually been an mlb starter before. Narveson proceeded to be quite average to below average in AAA for the next 2-3 years before showing up on the radar after our "next man in" pitching troubles/injuries last year and doing pretty well for us.
  3. I don't think that contract even gets in done for Minnesota, which is where he'd prefer to be over Milwaukee.
  4. I think people might be underestimating the price tag to obtain Garza also. It might cost much more than say, Cain/Gamel/Jeffress/Odorizzi. Nobody really knows....
  5. It might take Cain, Escobar, Lucroy, and Odorizzi to get a deal done for Greinke. KC can demand even more once teams leave the winter meetings with holes in their rotation. Despite the desire for Greinke, I am pretty sure most everyone would wish we did not obtain him in hindsight after seeing how much more we will/wound end up having to giving up than whay some of you think it'll cost.
  6. I just think again that the second year of the contract is huge. Clearly the Brewers and many other teams plan on Pavano being quite good next season. If the thought is that he can be really good in year two, I don't mind giving him the third year (at 30M) even if he is stuck in injury or long relief man the third year. Two strong years is worth 30M and giving him that third year if necessary.
  7. Did Rodrigues really fall to just one pick before us, only to be picked by Houston? That is horrible. He could have been a cheap #4/5 for us THIS season. Unless I'm overrating him.
  8. Did Rodrigues really fall to just one pick before us, only to be picked by Houston? That is horrible. He could have been a cheap #4/5 for us THIS season. Unless I'm overrating him.
  9. What were the WAR's for Pavano and Garza last year? And does the same site predict the WAR's of each player for this coming season yet?
  10. It'd be interesting to see if Prince would accept 2/40....
  11. Elsburry is a Boras client and only has like one/two years of expensive arby left I believe. I think I'd pass at this point.
  12. Nothing new to add here, so sorry to bump this thread up. But now that it looks like we might be signing Pavano, I wanted to say that I really want to add Beachy even more now. I am hoping we could maybe add a better sweetener to Gomez to get Atlanta to give us Beachy. Allow him and Narveson to compete for the number five slot. Let's hope Doug does not call it a day on his starting rotation....I think we can and should add Beachy if Doug works on it tomorrow after the rule five draft.
  13. That might well be true this year. However, it's 2012 and 2013 I'm worried about with Pavano. One of our other CF prospects should be ready by 2012, anyway.I think the key is that second year of Pavano's contract. If we get two strong years out of him, even if he's hurt or just needs to be relegated to long relief or average fifth starter status his final year, the signing still will look good in my eyes even if its overpaying. Give me two good years out of the guy, and it'll be a good deal in my book.
  14. I guess you have to weigh overpaying Pavano and losing your second round pick vs. overpaying for Garza and losing say Odorizzi, Gamel, Cain, and Jeffress. I would rather work out a Garza deal that doesn't purge our system too badly. If that can't be done.....I just don't know, but can't sign off on liking a Pavano addition at this point yet of the off season.
  15. I agree TLB. I'd certainly look into Garza/Upton together first, provided the Rays at least acknowledge the large benefit they are gaining from the salary dump. If the Rays think adding Upton to the deal means they get TWO more "studs" from us, then it'd be time to focus just on Garza.
  16. I'd probably try and have Axford be the headliner for us if possible. Then offer Gamel. Then hope the Rays like Gomez enough. Then throw in a Scarpetta type. I doubt it'd get anywhere, but maybe an offer of Axford/Gomez/Gamel/Scarpetta. I think Braddock can close easy enough and see a ton of quality options for the rest of our bullpen.
  17. The poster suggesting Kawakami and Beachy for Gomez and Stetter is onto something, me thinks...
  18. I'd be happy getting Beachy for Gomez and Stetter. It might cost us Narveson or Parra instead of Stetter though. I'd "kick the tires" on that if I were Doug as well.
  19. JoeH, I was thinking that, but we have a ton more money coming off the books this year than we did when CC was a FA. Plus the fact that Mark A and Doug have seen for the past two years how atrocious going about pitching the way we have been has made their baseball experience lately.
  20. Just read on MLBTR that the Braves are making Beachy available too. We may have to sweeten the pot with a reliever or something, but that makes a lot of sense. Gomez/+ for Beachy...
  21. http://twitter.com/ajcbraves/status/12214343114428416
  22. Somebody on one of the MJS blogs is claiming Canadian tv is reporting talks have started between Mil and Bal regarding a deal of prospects headed here for Fielder headed by Tillman. Sounds like total bs, but just thought I'd mention it...
  23. This Broxton/Loney thing could make sense if we then peddled Axford in a Garza or Greinke type deal. The only other "positive" I could possibly see in getting Broxton and Loney is the possibility that they could yield us four compensation picks as opposed to just two for Prince. Just trying to find some type of positives if this move ended up happening...
  24. A "thinking outside the box" idea might have Escobar being thrown out there. Maybe KC would be interested in Cain, Escobar, Jeffress, and Rivas for Greinke? Maybe you even dangle Lucroy? I am just thinking of same names nobody mentioned here. Would it be better to hold onto our top pitching prospects or better to hold onto the Cain/Escobar/Lucroy triumvirate? That's something Doug maybe needs to weigh if he is still looking at a Greinke type.
