  1. I think it's a good thing that the pessimism here has reverted back to the Gomez-Cameron debate and of some hitters possibly having worse years as opposed to our starting pitching being poor again. That must mean (since it is a Davis thread that should be geared around our rotation) that we are going to be much better in this area, and with that I agree.
  2. He's in no position to expect 400 AB's. 200 is more like it. We dealt for Gomez because we think he's ready to take a big leap forward. And Hart deserves one final shot as the everyday RF (while Gerut deserves to be the guy to expect the 400 AB's if it comes to that one way or another). I see no interest by us.
  3. People screaming for a harder thrower, strikeout pitcher should also realize that we've been active in trade talks at the deadline each of the past few seasons. As active as any team in baseball. If we are in the thick of things and need to get a power arm, our prospects are going to be much closer to the majors this season than they were last season, and we'll be able to swing a deal if it is needed.
  4. Pierre, as had been mentioned by someone, may have fit the bill in a Suppan swap. Too late now though. Not sure who else is overpaid. Maybe someone like Pat Burrell if we add something for the Rays, but I can't see that happening either.
  5. Well, we won't be worse in the rotation. We'll be better there, and possibly league average. Replacing Hardy and Kendall's production from last season will be pretty easy to more than do. The wildcard is if Gomez can improve his numbers enough vs. what Cameron produced. But I see us producing better at two of the three new spots in the order (C, SS) than we were last year and just regressing in CF. Not sure how that guarantees us a worse offense. Bullpen should be better too, as should our bench production.
  6. I fail to see how replacing Looper/Suppan with Wolf/Davis will not make us a better team.
  7. Great move. I feel like we can go to war with a rotation of Gallardo/Wolf/Davis/Bush/Parra and have a real shot at ninety wins that I just fail to see us getting to with Suppan instead of Davis.
  8. Maybe a change of scenery type deal in the form of Bush for Maine would work, as NYM could use Bush in the bullpen as some have felt he'd be better used anyway.
  9. I'd be hesitant to deal Salome or Coffey in a deal where Maine is the main prize. We'd certainly need a sweetener to deal either of those two, I'd think, especially given the price for a Washburn/Davis might be quite low.
  10. Probably similar to how Yovani Gallardo feels each and every year with Jeff Suppan raking in millions. It doesn't bother these guys because this is the system we have in place.
  11. I don't know why people are not figuring that at least two of the pitchers we all assume to be on the opening day roster will have a setback and need to start the year on the DL.
  12. I thought the reason we simply released Vargas two years ago or whenever that was, was because we didn't have to pay him because he was an arby guy.
  13. http://host.madison.com/sports/columnists/tom_ziemer/article_c814fff6-04b5-11df-bd55-001cc4c03286.html Some interesting quotes, but the one that jumped out to me is Melvin's hinting that Washburn or Davis will be a Brewer by the end of January.
  14. Does anyone have an approximation, if there is one, for how long Gomez would have to stay in FA to delay his free agency another year?
  15. Or if he'd shown enough to be the choice of our front office brass to be called up over guys like Burns, Smith, etc.
  16. I guess I'd be a little sad if 3/30 is all we had budgeted for starting pitching additions. We need quantity as well as quality. Would Piniero and Garland/Washburn be better than just Wolf? Tough call, and hopefully we have money left to add a Washburn/Garland still.
  17. Any interest in Piniero if 2/15 can get it done as mlbtraderumors seems to be leaning?
  18. Yeah, I think I'd like Duensing and Perkins at the minimum for Gamel, and I don't blame the many on here that would be disappointed in that deal.
  19. We won't be worse at SS than we were in 09. Whether McGehee (or Gamel) can match our 3B production from a year ago and whether Weeks can duplicate his first half and Lopez's second half at the plate remains to be seen.
  20. The sad thing is that there is a chance that Suppan, if the fifth starter, makes more than our other four starters combined even after throwing Wolf into the foursome.
  21. I think people are caring too much about having "too many lefties" in the rotation. While it might be better to have another righty (and might not), the point is that we need another above average starter. I think Davis or Washburn would both be an upgrade over Suppan, and thus would love either one if the price is right (and it is looking more and more likely that it will be).
  22. Thanks for your support Logan!!!
  23. I think it'd be nice to sort of groom Gomez and Escobar at the one-two spots in the order. It might be painful at times, but they could learn on the job. I guess it's my idea of sort of building for the future while still trying to make the playoffs. It could pay off big though. This would enable Rickie to hit fifth and make the bottom of the order quite strong.
  24. This should murder the already momentumless Hart/Maine rumors that existed three weeks ago.
