  1. If Hart kind of is equal to Davis to most, I am not sure Gomez is equal to Upton AND Moore.
  2. If the Brewers didn't extend or trade any of Fielder, Hart, Weeks before their contracts expire, I'd put the percentage chance we lose all three at about zero. I am guessing we'd overpay, or at least match whichever MLB team was going to overpay, and keep at least one of Hart or Weeks. I just think there is a zero percent chance we wouldn't sign at least one of those three IF we held onto them all the way to free agency. So the point about all those draft picks is pretty darn unlikely any way you slice it.
  3. The only good thing about trading, say, ONLY Hart now, is we truly do still have a minor chance this year. Trade Hart and Fielder both and we pretty much don't. But if you can get that potential number two starter for Hart and the kid (whomever it may be) pitches to potential in the second half for us, all of a sudden we can get into the thick of this thing maybe.
  4. Maybe, maybe not. Could be that TB would rather go with more "proven" pitching than to assume Hellickson will be very good for a playoff team in his first half season in the big leagues. I know I would gamble the way you are thinking if I am TB, but that doesn't mean they would. I'd certainly right now be trying to add a sweetener or two to Hart to see if we can land Hellickson. Coffey and a prospect around the 8-12 range with Hart and see if TB can be persuaded to give us Hellickson.
  5. Agreed Bullox... It'd be nice to have an "Obsure Statistical Thread" that I could do my best to avoid.
  6. I really hope, at this point, we are trying to expand deals. I like that Coffey was added to Hart in the SF rumor in hopes of landing Bumgarner instead of Sanchez plus. Time for us to add the "plus" and get the top pitcher we can get. Maybe if we did Coffey/Bush/Hart, SF would be willing to give up Bumgarner? Maybe not. Point is, for Tampa Bay, Davis for Hart might be ok, but I'm not overwhelmed by that offer. I'd rather deal Hart + for Minor. Maybe Hart and Coffey could get that done. Or I'd be looking to see what TB would need us to give for Davis AND Garza. But it's time for us to add the plus rather than getting lesser at the top and receiving the "plus".
  7. No way Weeks gets us Bumgarner. Does SF even need a second baseman?
  8. Ill take Minor straight up for Hart. Some of you are being just ridiculous in what you want as compensation. Boy has a lot changed since April.
  9. I bolded why there is no chance Doug Melvin will trade Corey Hart. He trades players at their lowest, not at their highest.
  10. Buster Olney is reporting that Konerko is now available and being shopped. This won't help Fielder's trade value...
  11. Good point. Maybe it's kind of like the "hot hand" in basketball. If Ray Allen made his last four shots and there are ten seconds left in the game, does that mean Allen (sub in Estrada here) should be the one taking the last shot in the basketball game?
  12. Curious to know who is under-performing for the Red Sox that we might be able to get in a package deal. I know Lars Anderson is doing really well after a poor year last year. But it'd be nice to get a package of 3-4 of the players Boston offered Seattle for Felix last year if we decide to package Prince in July.
  13. Has Jack Z really been disappointing? I feel he made some great value signings last off-season. This year, he made a great trade for Lee and a very good signing in Figgins.
  14. Why is Lawrie already being penciled in as a big leaguer? His stats tell me he's got plenty of work to do in the minors before we should even assume he'll get a fifteen day call-up in like 2013.
  15. I will say this about the rumor. If, to our dismay, the Crew plans on having Suppan around all year. And if the Crew thinks Narveson offers a better chance for starting help this year. Then it might make sense to deal Parra this season if he really is seventh in line to start.
  16. Is that move looking pretty bad in spite of how the pick landed us CC? For all intents an purposes, we were after a power hitting outfielder and the best one we could find. Not only was Heyward rated higher at the time, but he actually was an outfielder. We didn't know if LaPorta could even make the transition, much less be the better bat than Heyward. I know most will not follow Heyward in the context I am bringing up here during the next several years, but I can't help but think we made a mistake passing on the guy (Heyward) we clearly should have taken even without hindsight.
  17. Couldn't we use the flip side and say "it's the Gabe Kapler signing all over again". Two years ago, this type of move worked. Last year (Nixon) it didn't. This year, it might work and might not. But based on his 2008 season, he was not done being a productive MLB player.
  18. With Winn signing with NYY, it makes Damon almost not an option there I'd think. It'd be nice if Doug's next addition were a RF upgrade of the likes of Damon/Dye. We'd have to make another move to make that happen though, likely with Corey Hart going for a prospect, so I'd have to think it's unlikely.
  19. Just wondering on this one. We've added two lefthanders to the rotation in Wolf and Davis. We have a slight chance of adding Washburn if his desire to play here is such that his salary demands are too good to pass up. That would seem to me to make us at least consider trading Parra (although while his value is much lower) if his value is seen similarily to Morrow's. Any thoughts on this. There is a thread talking about dealing Bush or non-tendering him, but wouldn't Parra seem more likely to go (even if it is not a high chance) given that some team might still see real value in him? I am also keeping in mind the chance that our best/closest ready pitching prospect in AAA will be Braddock, who some feel can make the change to a starter as well.
  20. Has anyone asked Doug what the plan is for Gamel going into this season? Is he looked at as a bench guy, with Casey starting? Are they going to platoon at third? Is Gamel going to start in AAA? Is Gamel going to try another position in AAA? Is Gamel going to be starting at 3B for the big league team? I have not heard anything of what our intention is with him going into spring training...
  21. Yep, Gomez was a big upside acquisition. Wolf maybe is too in a way.
  22. I think most all of us will need to watch Gomez as a Brewer before we make too many absolute conclusions on the youngster. Sure, there might be a few posters that have seen him play 30 times or so, but most of us are looking simply at the underwhelming stats of an extremely talented and very young center fielder.
  23. The one thing that might make sense would be a Parra trade and a Washburn signing if he'd accept a 1/5 offer with a team option. Not saying I'd advocate this, but if we can get a prospect we like for Manny, we'd seemingly be able to add another lefty starter to the mix. I guess my point is that I could see us still monitoring Washburn and making room for him with a Parra trade if A) Washburn will come at OUR best value price and B) if Parra can get us what we want for him.
  24. Yeah, Narveson certainly pitched alright for us in his brief tour last year. But he had 08 and 09 to make the team and/or pitch well in AAA and never really did. He's a classic bubble guy on what is now hopefully at least an average pitching staff. I could go either way on him. Count me in as someone who'd prefer to bid sayonara to Suppan for Narveson or any other, but also as someone who would not see it as a "mistake" to cut ties after spring training.
