  1. Hart can get you a number two starter, just maybe not the type of number two starter that people might prefer. The Gavin Floyd types though, he could attain. Also keep in mind that Hart doesn't seem hell-bent on free agency, so the acquiring team might pay a little bit more in thinking/knowing that they can resign him.
  2. I think we'll make a strong play for Jackson. Hopefully for Sanchez too. Otherwise, say no to the rest and maybe see what Hamilton would cost afterall. Those would be the guys I target. Make Jackson and Sanchez plans A and A2. I am guessing we can get it done with one of them so need to go further. But I'd then have Hamilton as my plan B rather than signing any other free agent starter.
  3. I was somewhat surprised but happy we are moving on from Ishikawa. It helps give Gamel a few more at bats. I have no problem with a bench of Gamel, Scheafer, Bianchi, Maldanado (with Green the next man up or the last one to make it). A cheap bench that should do just fine productivity wise.
  4. I'd be okay going with Olmsted and Jeffress (along with Henderson and Kintzler) as main cogs in our bullpen prior to getting Axford the ball in the ninth. I am not sure a five million a year veteran will do any better, and I'd have no problem saving some cash from the bullpen to get an Edwin Jackson/Anibal Sanchez as our number two starter.
  5. Does anyone have an update on where Jeffress's situation is at right now? Do the Royals still have a couple of days to trade him before we can officially (possibly) claim him? I am excited to possibly make a play at this guy. I have a feeling he could do well as a setup man for us, but I'm not sure what type of a timeline we will have before we can maybe put the wheels in motion.
  6. I think we have enough starting arms, save resigning Marcum to a one year deal. It's going to be time to give these kids all a shot, starting with opening series next season. I'd be open to trading Corey, but I'd be more looking for adding a bat at 3B, 1B, OF. Basically looking for a younger and longer controlled Corey Hart.
  7. I'd actually love to get Marcum back for next year on the cheap. A rotation headlined by Gallardo and a healthy Marcum might just be really solid, when you consider that we have so many 3-5 options. But let's avoid spending Riske money on the bullpen please.
  8. Which do you prefer... Segura Richards Cowart from LA or Olt Grimm Odor from Texas I realize we may have to sweeten the pot a bit for either package
  9. Maybe my Santana idea is dumb. I figured we'd save about 20 million dollars getting Ramirez's offer off our books (when you consider we absorb Santana) while also getting another top 100 prospect. To me, it makes sense, but I understand why the very mention of the name Santana will make many here dismissive.
  10. Gentlemen, I don't think we are getting those all three of Segura, Richards, and Cowart for just Greinke. So you throw them Ramirez too and you take on a little salary in Santana, who Doug has liked some in the past anyway. In other words, you get a third very good prospect for Ramirez, provided we take on a little salary (Santana) in a guy Doug may not mind taking a flier on anyway.
  11. My best realistic trade scenario... Greinke and Ramirez for Segura, Richards, Cowart, and Santana. Thoughts on that deal? I think it's perfect, with the only glitch being that LAA might need a fifth starter still and we don't really have the right guy to "throw in" for them. Maybe Wolf I guess. But that trade seems perfect for both teams and fair value, or am I wrong?
  12. I guess I'd want more than Olt. Even if each side has to throw in more players. I want to come away with Olt+ the morning Greinke is no longer on this team.
  13. How does Anthony Rendon compare to Olt, if we are talking a possible trade with the Natty's?
  14. Aramis has value. Many teams would absorb his salary. Fact is, he has value too as one of the top third baseman this year and a proven past.
  15. Somewhat OT, but I'd take Ervin Santana on in a Greinke trade if I could get all three of Segura, Richards, and Cron. Send out our relievers too, as they need help there. Something like Greinke, Krod, Parra for Santana, Segura, Richards, Cron would suffice.
  16. If we are buyers, then the team should buy my tickets, as I won't support Milwaukee Buck like stupidity and short-sightedness.
  17. I am guessing that pick is more valuable to on draft day(s) or at least the closer we get to the draft. I also bet we want to hold onto it depending upon if we get rid of our top one for signing a guy in the off season. That said, good point.
  18. Bullpen arms are fluid. They'll be great and then they'll be horrible. Still, I'd trade a pair of them for a starter that we could control next year that has 2/3 potential but looks busted. Jurjjens is the name I threw out there, though I'd have accepted Sanchez/Guthrie if either had a year of control next year.
  19. Do you guys that are so adamant against trading Maldanado now understand how real the possibility is that he becomes a .225 hitter every year from this day forward? ETA - Using Maldanado to try and coax Texas into giving up Odor or Holland as part of a bigger Greinke/Olt trade is exactly something we should all be for.
  20. Greinke, Maldanado, and either a B pitching prospect or their pick of (KROD, Wolf, Loe, Parra) for Olt, Odor, Holland
  21. Question on Aoki: Do we have an option on him for a third year? Also, do we get any arbitration years for him or does he just become essentially an "unrestricted" free agent when his current contract is up?
  22. I'd trade Aramis, Nyjer/Gomez, and one of our many B pitching prospects for Hanley (and move him to SS).
  23. I wonder if we could combine the two for someone that a team is sour on. I've always wanted to take a flyer on Sanchez and Guthrie recent years, but this probably wouldn't be the year to do that. Maybe we could get Jurjjens for the pair if we take on his salary and Atlanta decides they are better with him out of their rotation after yesterdays bad outing?
  24. It wouldn't be a horrible idea to add Maldanado to a Greinke package to Texas. Might help us get not only Olt, but maybe a SS prospect like Odor or help get us Holland as the second piece. We'd still have Kotarras as a competent backup.
