  1. I just disagree on Green. I think he needs to be on the big league team. He played plenty at AAA last year and proved himself and I believe he's already 26. I'd rather see if he can be a good bench player on a contender than see if he can repeat his 2011 statistics at AAA again. But his age is the clincher for me that he should be in the majors (I'm well aware he's missed time due to injury).
  2. I was wondering that too. Since he's pretty likely to be on the big league team and since every thread talking about our bench will include "Izturis", it'd make more sense to keep the thread here since many don't frequent the MILB forum as much. "
  3. Izturis by and large has been on major league rosters and not at AAA. Given that we need a backup SS and don't have much money, I don't see this as a minor league move. Except in the technicality to keep him off the 40 man. This is our backup SS and is a solid move for likely very cheap.
  4. I think our bench is set, and I'm happy. I wanted someone signed to be the backup SS that Roenicke would have no business playing ahead of Taylor Green at any of the other infield positions. Izturis does that, while providing a good glove and a better OBP that Yuni. Infield and backup infield solved imho.
  5. I suppose its an option. Sorry for the condescending comment. Don't know where that came from in me. Basically though, I doubt he has any trade value based on the fact we won his posting fee at a low price. Maybe during spring training though. I'd rather trade Nyjer.
  6. Nobody wanted to bid 2.5 million on the guy. What pray-tell, are we planning to get for him before he's played even a minor league game in the states?
  7. I agree RM. It would have cost something of some type of consequence. But he was an option for those fearing the worst of free agency at the shortstop position.
  8. Ishikawa is fine as our backup first baseman and as a backup outfielder. Again, please just use Morgan in left and Gomez in center while Braun is out. Ishikawa can play some corner outfield too. Sign Jack Wilson as a backup infielder. He's cheap and good on defense. Mist importantly, he will be almost strictly a backup shortstop and defensive replacement since he won't hit nearly well enough for RRR to think about playing him at second or third over Green.
  9. It wouldn't be a bad idea to let Gomez start everyday in CF and have Morgan in LF as a platoon. Let defense and pitching try and win us most of the games the first half of the season. So, if we do this, let's just find a right-handed platoon mate based on what we currently have on the roster.
  10. If Roenicke were better at playing subs and young guys more in a reserve role, I wouldn't mind the move. I'd love to have Gamel as our third corner outfielder and backup 1b if RRR would get him 3-400 at-bats. And love for Green to get 300 at-bats between 2b and 3b. But these guys will both rot with RRR. Two things... 1 - Where are the trades to improve the club 2 ' Since Morales played for RRR in LA, why are we not pursuing him
  11. I was pleasantly surprised we went after and got Ramirez, as I originally earmarked Melvin for signing Pena for sure. I may have spoken too soon. Can Pena play some corner outfield in a pinch?
  12. I remember not too long ago when everyone was up in arms about how much wed regret giving Wolf that third year.
  13. I realize people don't really like or trust Casey for the most part, but do we really feel he is a non tender? THat is, do we really feel he won't bring anything at all decent back in a trade?
  14. Do we have two more seasons or three more seasons of Hart signed up?
  15. Better sign Ramirez and trade for Morales now. Gamel to leftfield.
  16. Jack Wilson might work. Good defensively at ss and not a good enough bat for RRR to justify playing him at second over Green.
  17. It depends on Hardy. He was poor the two previous seasons but did well last year. Still, he's good defensively and it seems a good gamble that he will hit enough to make that contract look good, provided he can stay on the field.
  18. uehera would be my target. Not sure that is the correct spelling.
  19. Gonzalez has too much veteranness for Lucroy to hit ahead of him. Lucroy has to hit eighth.
  20. Why do people think they know of what our max budget is? Mark can have a budget of 120M+ easily if he wants. And he may even want.
  21. The Angels were one of the teams interested in Ramirez, so they may like a "proven" 3b like McGehee for Morales. They also are one of the teams that possibly would be looking for a closer, and Krod did well for them before. Just two different scenarios to look at in a potential trade.
  22. Bryce, in you roster scenario, you probably are also non-tendering Kottaras, which saves a little something too.
  23. Since I want Green backing up second as well as third if he's not our starter at third, I really want a backup ss that we only look to at that particular position.
  24. I'm guessing we can get Aram cheaper now. Either two years only or three years and no more than 10k per year. Now that the winter meetings are done, his price should come down. I'm hoping anyway.
