  1. I question why so many are against a Rivera/Salome combo for us next year. As though bringing back Kendall or some other crummy free agent is assuredly a better solution than finally having some guts and giving our own guys a shot. I am sick of below average, washed up, should-be backup retreads being counted on by us to man the catching position.
  2. Still a good trade for Cleveland however the players involved end up doing with them. But more proof of how risky it can be getting guys that are unproven at the major league level. I still think they'll end up with a pair of solid regulars, but maybe no all-stars.
  3. I agree Sheetskout. That's precisely my thoughts just said differently/better. I'm willing to sell a tad lower on JJ just due to the situation, but otherwise don't really want to sell low. I'd rather trade JJ, trade a 3B, and sign a FA SP. I see no reason for us to create a hole in RF. I too think Hart has a better chance to put up nice offensive numbers next year than say McGehee. Let's ride it out with Hart another year and get our starting pitching through other avenues.
  4. ...and with his old pitching coach Rick Petersen likely to be our pitching coach, what are your thoughts on a possible match? http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2009/10/tim-hudson-likely-to-choose-free-agency.html
  5. Yeah, I'd at least see what else Hart could get just to see if there might be someone better we could trade him for straight up than KK. But depending on a number of factors for how the off-season starts, I'd be open to this.
  6. Yost would make playing Houston a bit more entertaining. We already have a nice rivalry with CHC and STL. Adding some spice to Houston sure would be good for us as far as interest is concerned, I'd think.
  7. What we need to do is offer him arby. After doing that, just sit back and see what happens.
  8. If we pretty much stay out of the free agent game (ie allowing Cameron, Kendall, Weathers, Lopez to walk while adding starters only via trades) we just might be able to lock up Prince longer term this off-season.
  9. I guess I am more or less worried that we'd end up trading Gamel since he'd maybe get us more. If that's true there's a decent chance that we all prefer FL over CM by June. And if that's the case, we'll have really missed a chance to deal CM for what will inevitably be needed pitching by June.
  10. You're right. My bad. I'd pass on that one too though. If we are going to trade some of these chips, we should deal them separately, not all inclusive for a one year rental.
  11. Tom Oates wrote an editorial in the WSJ about resigning Lopez and moving him to third. The top of his lineup went Lopez, Escobar, Braun, Fielder, Weeks. I like that. Does anyone think that we maybe could trade BOTH McGehee and Gamel for pitching? Would you be cool starting both Lopez and Weeks in the infield? It's an interesting option to maybe give us our best offensive lineup for next year while at the same time giving us the most pitching help we can get in the off-season.
  12. Nate - I am not saying your deal won't happen. But we wouldn't trade EITHER Gamel or Escobar in a deal for 1.5 years of Halladay but now we'd trade BOTH and more in a deal for only one year of Halladay. That screams panic to me.
  13. I'd have to think Mulder would be brought in. Hudson might be a trade target. Duscherer would seem to make a lot of sense too.
  14. I actually really like Byrnes, but I'll grant all of you that I haven't really watched him the last two years and do see his stats.
  15. I would personally rather have Hart than KK. Only because I am stepping away from the ledge and taking a deep breath and realizing we WILL get two good starting pitchers this off-season. If KK were younger, then I'd do this deal. But for an average-ish and old SP that will likely only help us for two years........I'd rather keep Hart and sign Doug Davis. At the minimum, I'd wait on this one til I know what the free agent market is for the five or so SP's I desire and also until I see what we get for Hardy.
  16. If Lucroy gets the amount of games that Kendall got down the road, it will be practically meaningless how good/bad Salome's defense is as the second catcher.
  17. "Nolasco had a bad ERA this year but that was mainly due to luck". How is this calculated? I have some pitchers I like that had somewhat of a down year that I'd love to post the same thing about with regard to why their numbers are what they are.
  18. I think I'd prefer Guthrie/Liz to Morrow/pitching prospect for Hardy. I'd certainly take both though. If JackZ happens to like Weeks and would take a chance on him, he might be able to net us that Morrow deal. We then offer arby to Lopez and have Lawrie ready probably in 2011.
  19. Washburn was someone we were willing to trade quite a bit for just two months ago. To think there suddenly won't be interest in him at a hometown discount rate while giving up nothing in terms of talent is pretty ludicrous to me. Sure, it'd be nice to have a power arm. Sure it'd be nice to have a pitcher that gives up hardly any homeruns. The bottom line though is improving the rotation. If Doug and his scouts loved him in Seattle, his poor performance in a handful of starts for Detroit can not and should not prevent us from going after him at the right price. There is a good chance we can't get any of the "risk" pitchers (Sheets, Harden, Escobar, etc.). This might be the way to go. So many people on this board get so high and so low on pitchers, from Piniero to Wolf to Washburn to Sheets that it really is quite astounding to me. Sit back and let's see what happens.
  20. Somewhat off topic but not really, it wouldn't be horrible to sign both Davis and Washburn to team friendly deals. Adding the two lefties might enable us to package Parra with something to get a third starter to help Gallardo at the top. Might be a lot more bang for our buck this way. ETA - I know a lot of people area saying how Doug fixes the starting pitching this off-season could determine his fate in Milwaukee. If that is true, I am not sure I can see us focusing on an injured starting pitcher. Definitely not something where 10 million or more would be guaranteed over a year. Yes, Washburn and Davis would have their own issues. But at the right price, they are better than everyone save Yo and should enable us more ammo to trade and get Yo a counterpart at the top of the rotation.
  21. Not a big fan of "this player is worth blank wins" stats. Does that mean Looper is our best pitcher then since we win more games pitched by him than any other starter?
  22. I guess we all kind of expect Hardy to be dealt. Some think Hart could be too. My question is, do you see any sleeper candidates out there to be traded. We've had threads about McGehee and Gamel, so let's keep them out of this thread too. My thinking might be Weeks. I could see Jack Z real interested. Let's be honest. Lawrie will be here soon and there's probably a 50/50 chance of Lopez coming back. Now, if teams aren't really scared of Weeks injury, he might have some real value. He's the guy I am going to point to as my sleeper dealt to help us upgrade our starting pitching. Any thoughts on what his value would be, or if we have any other sleepers that could stand a real chance of being dealt?
  23. Does anyone have any clue about the chances Felix would resign. I know that's a long ways off from predicting, being that he's not on our team and doesn't even know how he'd like Milwaukee. But if we made him a CC type offer, would he accept it or do all signs point to him only signing a ridiculous contract with a New York or a Boston?
  24. The point more or less is that your Mets proposal is the type of deal we could easily get the following off-season. There is no reason to take that type of offer when we can use him next season and get the same exact type of deal a year from now.
  25. The Mets would certainly be welcome to make such an offer. And Doug would certainly take the initiative of hanging up the phone in a hysterical laughter.
