  1. I guess based on Hardy's year and Kendall's numbers this year, combined with the way my eye watches them at the plate, makes me think that these guys will outperform the statistics at those positions next year. You can disagree with me. I personally don't want anyone from the current roster (save maybe McGhee if Gamel switched positions) starting at SS, C, or 3B next season. And I happen to think the "kids" will do a bit better than you I guess.
  2. I think we all have a gut feeling that Mark A is this way. Not sure what kind of a quote we can get out of him to indicate it for sure, but I know most of us have this belief of Mark A. Time will tell within the week I guess....
  3. I just think adding Gamel/Escobar/Salome will produce equal-better numbers than anyone save Braun/Fielder/Weeks has this year. Salome will outproduce our catching numbers this year, Escobar will outproduce our SS production this year, and Gamel will outproduce our 3B production this year. Having Braun/Fielder/Weeks around these guys will lead to a nice offense imho. Sure they'll struggle at times, but so has a ton of people on this year's offense. I don't see why those three shouldn't be given a great shot next season.
  4. I hope you are right End. I have high hopes that Rickie adds a third all-star to our lineup with Braun/Fielder next year. Having those three really makes adding some rookies to the mix something that could really pay off.
  5. I think Mark A's goal, and maybe Doug's too, is to always be about ten games over .500. That way, it's never quite good enough to be relevant in the post-season, but it keeps the stands packed and provides a consistent "winning" atmosphere. But we'll never get over any sort of hump if we create the market at the deadline with our young talent each and every year.
  6. Why is the obvious (Hardy) never brought up? Is it possible that JZ doesn't want anything to do with him?
  7. On the bright side, Rosenthal updated his blog saying JZ is a great admirer of Weeks and that he can be included in a PTBNL deal for Washburn. What a great move that would be Doug!!!
  8. Unbelievable if we trade Weeks. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/9863582/MLB-trade-deadline-buzz:-Tuesday%27s-edition
  9. By all accounts his bat is ready, especially at the catcher position. And at that position, I am not sure which month beyond April is bad (again, for a catcher). I'd argue we're wasting service time on guys that aren't performing at all at the MLB level right now that have us in the position we are in. Service time is a double-edged sword. The odds of getting six quality years out of any guy is highly unlikely. Salome's bat plays next season, probably better than any alternative we have. He'd be a great option to have as one of our two catchers on the 25 man roster next season.
  10. A) We can probably resign Washburn if we get him now. I'd say our odds double on being able to do so if we trade for him now and he pitches well for us (provided we offer him a "fair" contract). B) Morrow is young, throws hard, is under our control for a few years, and has top 2-3 of the rotation potential. c) You will not find a better deal than that, if you can even get this deal. I highly doubt we can get Seattle to do this without prospects going their way, but if we can, it's a no-brainer (especially for DM and MA who want to prove to the casual fan that we aren't giving up, we are getting the pitching we need, and we still have a good shot at the playoffs).
  11. If he can get JZ to do the Hardy for Washburn/Morrow, fine. Otherwise, please don't be dumb Doug.
  12. Please look at Salome's stats after May and tell me how badly Salome is struggling with his bat. There's got to be some stat out there to make him look bad from then on... Money thinks he can be a good defensive catcher, and frankly I want Lucroy in AAA starting next year. I'd like to see Salome get a shot at the majors and determine with the big club just how horrendous he is with his glove. There's nothing that says Rivera doesn't need to play more/the majority of the games next year if he really isn't good enough at all defensively. I am ready for a bat at catcher again and he has one. Look at his stats the past two months and tell me otherwise.
  13. Salome deserves a shot next year, along with Rivera deserving more of a shot. Those should be our two catchers next year, with Lucroy filling Salome's void at AAA. If one of the two doesn't work out, then Lucroy replaces them in 2011. No reason to spend money on a catcher given what we have deserves a shot at the job(s).
  14. Yeah, he said something to the effect that you can get more for pitching during the season and that you can get more for hitting during the off-season.
  15. What are the odds we buy? 50 percent WHat are the odds we sell? 20 percent What are the odds we do nothing? 30 percent Anyone disagree that reality with DM and MA is somewhere around these odds?
  16. No, I think McGehee backs up next year at 2B, 3B, and maybe tries a bit at either 1B for the rare Prince day off or a corner outfield spot as a reserve. But yes, trade JJ please and let's move on and also improve our staff.
  17. If we let Gamel and Escobar start the rest of the year, we might get the energetic boost we need. But alas, it won't happen.
  18. twobrewers, good post, however I disagree with you on the casual fans. The casual fans have been around about five years now. They understand the game enough i think to be able to understand what's going on and what our best chance out of this mess is. You need only look at the Escobar blog today and every single comment on the JS underneath. I hope MA took a look there and realizes we want to keep our prospects and don't want to buy short term non-solutions for aiding this pathetic pitching staff.
  19. Hoffman - I'd guess a Linebrink type hall (that should be fun for those of you re-hashing that trade lately) Cameron - I'd guess a top ten AA ball prospect and probably an A ball guy in the 12-20 range Looper - I'd guess the same as Cameron, and the fact of his option possibility might make teams prefer him to a 100% rental
  20. Yeah, it's not a horrible trade idea, but they probably don't do it anyway. But I'd like to keep Braun and Fielder and surround them with Gamel and Escobar as opposed to any other two players in our system. I think these four, along with the injured Weeks, are the ones that will help us get to the next level. And I also will have to look up Ramirez, as I know nothing about him.
  21. As long as Lawrie isn't th "A" ball player(s) we give up, I am on board. What about Escobar/Dykstra/Aguilar for Washburn/Morrow? Too much to give up or not enough?
  22. No thanks on dealing Gamel, Clancy. He and Escobar are untouchable.
  23. Looks like Arroyo is about to be shipped to the Yankees, which means Cinci probably holds onto Harang.
  24. This is what I wanted done a while ago. I thought we gave up on him too soon last year. I am cautiously optimistic here that he'll be reborn as a starter. He had no trouble in the minors and had shown he can get major league hitters out. Macha just needs to know to cut the cord on him after a solid five innings if he gets it for him.
  25. Did you guys see the thread on this on the JS blog? Never have I seen so many basically unanimous support one way or the other in a thread. EVERYONE would be outraged if Escobar were dealt at Doug Melvin. And there must have been over 100 different people that posted (the thread might be over 300 right now, I am not sure). Anyway, I am impressed that there was enough knowledge seemingly by every brewer fan in that thread. Now if only Doug and MA can realize this, we can continue to build the "right" way toward a WS ring.
