  1. Exactly Rydogg. Melvin waiting on coming to terms with this or be unwilling to stopgap there at those positions is imho what is making our pitching staff that would be average if everyone was pitching their best, look so under-playoff caliber this season. Those two should have been traded for pitching while they had decent/good value.
  2. Paul Byrd or Odalis Perez make sense if we are going to be without Bush for a while or if we have no faith in Burns anymore, none yet in Cody, etc.
  3. Sweet, if he said that, then let's trade JJ for Jonathan Sanchez.
  4. I guess some of us just don't see the grass for this current squad as being as green as others. I guess time will tell who is right. I hope not me.
  5. The current crop, minus Braun and Fielder, is very much a below average crop.
  6. I am not necessailly saying he SHOULD back away, just that I don't think there's any chance he will. I think any time we are sitting at .500 Melvin will gut the system a bit and make a move that will increase our expected amount of wins by a couple games.
  7. The fact that we insisted on major league talent back when we got rid of Lee makes me think Melvin is not strong enough to back away from going for it any year in the forseeable future.
  8. Probably should have given CV a bit more of a chance at being a starter. I thought he was our best option ever since the start of last season, even amidst his struggles last year and this year. I know nobody will agree with me here though, and that's okay too.
  9. Not sure Boston does that deal, but your offer from our side is what I would go for in attempting to get Roy.
  10. I am starting to think the deal might be Hardy and Lawrie for Halladay. Maybe we'd throw in a B-type pitcher too.
  11. I guess my point is that Hardy can net us the pitching we need and also that we won't lose anything at the plate.
  12. Just like replacing Overbay with Prince, when people loved Overbay, we can replace Hardy with Escobar and improve. It won't be impossible to replace Hardy's bat and glove.
  13. Everybody would be better if they spent 2-3 years at AAA. The point is that Escobar will be cheaper and better than what Hardy is doing this year and would do next year. A guy that hits over 300 in AAA probably does not need to be there another year as well.
  14. It doesn't really matter though if he's not hitting for us NOW and his days are going to be numbered in Milwaukee anyway. He's struggled at the bat for a whole half season. What's to say he won't struggle the second half and even early next year? It happens to the best players in the game. Again, my point is we can live without his bat and that he can fetch us good pitching that we desparately need. We might as well do it sooner than later imho.
  15. What do you mean by right now though? Right now as in this current season, Hardy is not a good hitter. I would place a bet that Escobar's numbers, if called up today to start this half of the season at SS, would be better than Hardy's half of the season starting at SS. But the point isn't to get into this debate really, other than to say that Hardy is not an extremely valuable bat that our offense can not live without. It's that we need pitching and if we can get something good in that realm now, he's the ticket that makes the most sense to use to do it.
  16. We'll see I guess. He has roughly two months to go on an incredible tear to get his stats looking above average. I have my doubts, but certainly don't hate the guy. I hope to heck he turns it around. All I am saying is that if/when his stats look bad after the season, we will have him for only one more year and with Escobar ready to take over. It will really be painful to deal him for something less than stellar.
  17. JJ's trade value is going to be much bleaker than you'd think after the season with one year left on his contract and a pretty pathetic offensive season. If we can turn him around for something that will help us win this year AND lead to something nice in the future, getter done.
  18. But doesn't everyone here get the feeling that there is not only no way we are sellers, but there is no way we are the combination of sellers AND buyers together with Melvin at the helm. Again, he's the one that insisted on MLB ready talent back for Lee when we should have gotten rookies/prospects (Santana maybe) but we were making a feeble (sp.) attempt at the playoffs. We also made the trade for Linebrink (not saying it was horrible) which in my opinion was a trade to make a trade as that team had much worse worries than a setup man. I just don't see anyway Melvin does anything beyond adding pieces. There is no way we do anything that will help us in the future more long term, imho, than what we give up. I can only see us making a move that likely stings us more longterm for a hopeful fix of this current season.
  19. I agree he should stay there, but can Hart and Gerut join him?
  20. FYI, Katin just hit an absolute bomb in the AAA allstar game to give the PCL their first run of the game. Oops, I was about twenty seconds late I guess, so I'll add that Katin and Escobar have a cooler handshake celebration than we currently have on the parent club.
  21. I came across this from the MLB trade rumors site that we all frequent. It says they'd deal Huff for a mid-tier prospect. If true, I'd jump all over that and try and coax Atlanta into taking Hart and ??? for Vazquez. Here is the link. http://www.sportingnews.com/mlb/article/2009-07-15/holliday-washburn-top-deadline-wish-lists
  22. I actually think we'd resign both, and even when we trade for neither, I bet we end up signing one of the two after the season.
  23. I actually really agree with the idea this blogger has for his Mariners. The Brewers should be looking to be buyers AND sellers. That is, we should not put a decent sized dent into our farm system, but should try and add the pitching via our current 25 man roster. This trade would work if available. Hart plus for Vazquez would work as well.
  24. How is Washburn not an expected upgrade? He's pitching in the AL with better numbers than Yo, and even if some obscure stat is used, he'd easily be our second best starter this year (unless we count Bedard I guess).
